Alumnus, Alumna, Alumni - What? The term alumnus is most commonly used to define a former male student and most often a graduate of an educational institution. Alumna is the female term. As graduates of Rundle Academy, you have each become an alumnus/alumna or collectively as a group, you are alumni.

Our graduates are extraordinary individuals that share a unique bond with their fellow classmates and faculty. As an alumnus/alumna of Rundle Academy, you now belong to a group of peers that are proud to be associated with such an outstanding program. Rundle Academy alumni have reached nearly 200 since the first graduating class in 2001. As the Academy continues to grow, we envision a school that includes a strong alumni program benefiting our alumni, our school and our current students. Typically an alumni program creates opportunties for graduates to stay connected to the school and to each other. The benefits of an alumni program are meaningful to both the school and to the alumni. The friendships developed during your school years may be the most influential relationships throughout your life. Your connection to faculty has shaped your educational experience and created unlimited possibilties for your future. The opportunity to give back to your school and mentor future Academy graduates, provides both personal and professional satisfaction knowing that you have helped a student succeed and achieve their dreams, just as you did.

Successful and accomplished alumni measures the success of our program. We want to celebrate your achievements with the greater community and increase awareness for our exceptional program. You are our ambassadors, and with a strong alumni program, Rundle Academy will continue to be the best LD school in Alberta. Be proud alumni. If you have any comments or suggestions for our alumni program, please contact Leslie Tecklenburg, Director of Alumni Relations, at [email protected].

2005Christine Williamson ‘05 has just completed her Early Childhood Education certificate and diploma in Special Needs, and is in her last year of completing her degree in Child and Youth Care at the University of the Fraser Valley. Christine’s long term career goals are to work as a play therapist or behavioral interventionist. In April, she bought a house with her fiancé and is busy planning a summer wedding. Congratulations Christine.

2002

Kyle Fagnan ‘02 finished an apprenticeship at SAIT in 2009 and obtained his Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Journeyman ticket. Working alongside his brothers in the family business has given Kyle great satisfaction in his career. Since his Rundle days, Kyle has backpacked through Australia; seen the Matterhorn in Switzerland; crossed the Rialto bridge in Italy; and explored the island of Santorini in Greece. He’s also seen the glaciers in Alaska; the Capital of the United States; spent New Year’s Eve in New York and laid on the beaches in the Dominican and Mexico. Kyle has walked through castles in Croatia and Turkey; toured the Budweiser beer factory in St.Louis and last but not least, watched his 3rd Stanley Cup playoff game, this past year in Pittsburg.

Kyle still loves to play hockey and has volunteered his time to coach minor hockey teams for many years. All those years on the ice will serve him well as he prepares himself for the upcoming Chestemere Hockey Marathon May 6-16, 2012 in support of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation. Along with Kyle, 40 players will play hockey for 254 hours; that’s 11 straight days, according to the Guiness Book of World Records. With a grueling schedule of 4 hours on the ice then resting for 8 hours, this Hockey Marathon may just be the toughest adventure yet for Kyle.

We wish Kyle the best as he straps on the skates for this worthy cause. Click the link below to read more about the World’s Longest Hockey Game or find out how you can support Kyle and his teamates.

Zakir Hussein ‘07 is near completion on his degree from the University of Calgary in Petroleum Geology and has started his second degree at a university in Boston. While on a visit to Harvard University to speak to faculty and members on biotechnology and the science behind reducing ecological footprints, he was recruited to attend the school of sustainability. After finishing his online courses in the next few months, he will be heading to Boston for his final exams.

While continuing with his studies, Zakir is also the current President of the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business organization SIFE: Students in Free Enterprise - the world’s largest business competition. In SIFE, they focus on 6 projects that enhance the lives of individuals in the community by utilizing business principals. These projects range from entrepreneurship to immigration, and poverty issues and concerns. Visit the SIFE website at: www.Sife-Calgary.com. As a true entrepreneur, Zahir also owns Organo Engery Inc. and it’s sub-branch organization Alberta Clean Technologies Ltd. www.AlbertaCleanTech.com that focuses on Algal fueled technologies and waste cooking oil. His goal has been to reduce green house gas emissions and turn cooking oil into biodiesel. He is currently negotiating a deal with one of the largest rail transportation companies in North America in an effort to collect their used engine oil for refining purposes.

Undoubtedly Zahir will continue to be an influential player in the evironmental industry and we look forward to following his career and sharing his success with our students.
