Situation #1y Team B is called for a two shot common foul. Team A is

awarded two free throws. Prior to the free throwsoccurring, a timeout is called. The players return afterthe timeout and Player A1 shoots and makes the first oftwo free throws. As soon as the shot is made, theofficials realize that team A has six players on the court. Atechnical foul is assessed to team A for six players on the

court. The coach for team B says that because there weresix players on the court that the first free throw should becancelled and shot again.

Situation #2y Team A is awarded an alternating possession throw-in.

A1s throw-in pass is illegally kicked by B2. Which

directionis the possession arrow set following the kickedball? Team A or Team B?

    y HOW DO YOU RULE?

  • 8/3/2019 Rules Presentation 2.5.2011

    5/26

RulingonSituation #2y Because of the kicked ball, Team A is awarded a

designated spot throw-in and the possession arrow

remains with Team A. As the throw-in ended in aviolation by Team B, because the ball was not touched

legally inbounds, the possession arrow remains with

    Team A.

    7/26

RulingonSituation #3y A1 is NOT out of bounds in (a), (b), (c),or (d). To be out of

bounds, A1 must touch the flooror some object onor

outside a boundary line. People are not considered to beobjects and play continues. Inadvertently touching

someone whois out of bounds, without gaining and

    advantage,is not considered a violation.

Situation #4y A1 blocks a pass near the end line. The ball falls to the

floorinbounds, but A1, whois off balance, steps off the

court. A1 returns inbounds, secures control of the balland dribbles.

    9/26

RulingonSituation #4y LEGAL! A1 did not leave the court voluntarily and did not

have control of the ball when they did. The situationis

similar toone in which A1 makes a try from under thebasket and momentum carries A1 off the court. If the try

is unsuccessful, A1 may come back onto the court and

regain control since A1 did not leave the court voluntarily

and did not have control of the ball when they did.
