The archer-ranger (Arn) is a variant of the ranger classdesigned around the use of the bow or crossbow insteadof two-weapon fighting. This class may replace the coreranger class or the core archer class in a campaign, or

may be used as an alternate ranger for those wantingmore choices of core classes.

The archer-ranger is a

huntsman and tracker, onewho moves silently throughthe woods, watching for preyor for intruders. These areoutdoorsmen like no other,

more dangerous and cunning than the beasts andhumanoids that live beyond the borders of civilization.

Adventurers: Many archer-rangers are guardians of

their homelands, living in self-imposed exile. They arewanderers who seek out, track and destroy those who

threaten the civilization they hold dear. As such, they often

find themselves propelled into the wilds and the depths of adventure, seeking out hostile creatures, or discoveringstrange and unusual treasures and places.

Characteristics: A quite proficient combatant, thearcher-ranger fights best at a distance with missileweapons. Since she rarely works with a large team thatstep between her and a rushing opponent, she needs tobe able to take care of herself in close combat. The

archer-ranger is quite knowledgeable of the wilderness,with strong skills of hunting and survival. At higher

The Archer-Ranger



Class SkillsThe sniper's class skills (and the key ability for each

skill) are Balance (Dex), Climb (Str), Concentration (Con),Craft (Int), Hide (Dex), Intimidate (Cha), Listen (Wis), Spot(Wis) and Swim (Str). See Chapter 4: Skills in Core

RuleBook 1 for skill descriptions.

Skill Points Per Level: 2 + Int modifier

Class Features All of the following are class features of the sniper

prestige class.

Weapon and Armour Proficiency: The sniper's traininggains no additional weapon or armour proficiencies.

Primary Weapon (Ex): At level 1, the sniper selects oneof the following ranged weapons to be his primary

weapon: heavy crossbow, light crossbow, longbow, short-bow. At 1st level the character receives a +1 competencebonus to all attacks made with his primary weapon. Thisbonus increases by one at level 5. This bonus stacks withthe Weapon Focus feat. A sniper who already has thePrimary Weapon ability from another class must select thesame primary weapon, and this ability stacks with it.

Extended Sneak Attack (Ex): Beginning at level 1, the

sniper gains the ability to perform a sneak attack (as per the rogue ability, Core Rulebook 1) using his primaryweapon exclusively. In addition, unlike a normal sneakattack, this sneak attack an be done at ranges of up to 5range increments from the sniper. If used within a rangeof 30 feet, (and within the other normal restrictions of asneak attack) then this extraordinary ability stacks withany other sneak attack the character may have from lev-els of rogue or blackguard, etc. The extended sneak

attack damage begins at +1d6 and increases by 1d6every odd level.

Improved Pinpoint Accuracy (Ex): At 2rd level andhigher, the sniper improves his Pinpoint Accuracy ability,able to maintain it for one additional round (for an addi-tional +2 circumstance bonus to his attack roll).

Eagle's Eye (Ex): At fourth level, the sniper gains a +4competence bonus on all spot rolls.
