KSB restores university’s 100-year-old pumps

Ruhrpumpen adds Brazilian plant

KSB Service GmbH has overhauled

three historical pumps and their

piping systems at Munich's tech-

nical university TUM (Technische

Universität München) in Germany.

The three pumps are based at the

university’s hydraulic institute,

where they have been used for

testing during the teaching

process over the last 100 years.

The KSB pump sets include two

double-entry pumps dating back

to 1913 and a single-stage pump

from 1916.

Service specialists from KSB’s

Pegnitz site also fi tted new

valves and replaced the old

cast pipes with stainless steel

piping.

Johannes Klein, the founder of KSB

AG, completed part of his studies

in mechanical engineering at the

polytechnic school in Munich. This

was expanded into a technical

college in 1868, becoming the

predecessor of today’s technical

university.

Ruhrpumpen has opened a new

7500 m2 plant in Rio de Janeiro,

Brazil.

The new manufacturing facility

includes 671 m2 of office space, a

test lab (up to 6000 HP), and a

service centre.

Ruhrpumpen now has eight plants

strategically located on four conti-

nents. The pump manufacturer

also has an international network

of service centres with plans for a

new centre in Antofagasta, Chile.

Sulzer expands South African sales and service operations

ClydeUnion wins North Sea FPSO contract

Sulzer Pumps has relocated its

sales and service centre in

Durban, South Africa to larger

premises.

The new bigger facility houses

service, sales and project manage-

ment to meet customer needs in

Southern, Central and Eastern

Africa. The Durban service facility

will work with Sulzer Pumps’

established service centre network

within the region serving

customers in the power, hydro-

carbon processing, water, pulp and

paper, chemical processing and

general industries.

The new premises are fully

equipped to perform repair and

refurbishment services for centrif-

ugal pumps and agitators.

Sulzer Pumps, which has 90 years

of experience in South Africa, has

a manufacturing facility in Johan-

nesburg and three service centres

in the region.

ClydeUnion Pumps has secured an

order from China’s COSCO

(Nantong) Shipyard Co Ltd to

supply four submersible motor

driven seawater lift pumps for a

North Sea fl oating, production,

storage and offl oading vessel

(FPSO).

The contract includes two low

voltage and two high voltage

CUP-VSM submersible motor

driven seawater lift pumps in

super duplex stainless steel.

The CUP-VSM pumps will be

manufactured at SPX’s facility in

Glasgow, Scotland with

delivery scheduled for February

2014.

Thuerig to lead PSG EuropeUeli Thuerig has been appointed

president of the newly created

Pump Solutions Group (PSG)

Europe.

Thuerig, formerly CEO of PSG

operating company Maag, will

report to PSG president Dean

Douglas. “PSG is thrilled to have

someone with Ueli’s leadership

and expertise guiding PSG’s Euro-

pean initiatives,” said Douglas. “The

formation of PSG Europe will play

an important role in increasing

PSG’s customer intimacy across

our European operational platform,

and Ueli will be instrumental in

helping us achieve that.”

The organization will support PSG

manufacturing and facilities in

Europe, including Auxerre, France;

Grossostheim and Kamp-Lintfort,

Germany; Oberglatt, Switzerland;

and Rozzano, Italy. The Tianjin, China

facility will also be part of PSG

Europe because of the engineering

and technology alignment of the

Maag Industrial Pumps platform

and its screw pump technology.
