BEHIND THE SCENES GOSSIP EMBARGO 27 SEPTEMBER

•The most common body issue footballers have when being photographed is their bums being too big. They usually want it minimised; whether that be through lighting or angle of photography.

•Photographer Pedro Virgil states working with footballers is generally easier because they are so used to taking their clothes off and being naked around team mates and journalists (both female and male) in the locker room post game.

•The more remote the shooting location, the less covering up was done. The boys love nature and being totally natural with the elements. In fact most players were happily taking their clothes off before it was required and stayed naked for the whole shoot, even during breaks.

•A footballer’s body changes as the season progresses. Towards the end of the season, they are traditionally leaner and have a lot more bruises and scars that need to be covered with a skilled make-up artist’s brush.

•Who said footy players weren’t concerned with beauty. Several players demanded liberal doses of body bronzer to give them that sun kissed look.

•Unlike most nude photoshoots, footballers have the least amount of ‘Diva Demands’ according to photographer Pedro Virgil. Just throw on some loud Eskimo Joe music, supply a few bourbon and cokes and the boys are ready to bare all, with almost no inhibitions in front of the camera.

•Footballer’s girlfriends were encouraged on set to avoid shrinkage in cold weather.

•The team behind the Naked Rugby League Calendar, NV Productions, will photograph AFL’s sexiest players in the buff next year and release the Naked AFL Calendar as well as the Naked Rugby League Calendar.

The naked Rugby League 2007/2008 calendar is on sale from October 1 for $29.95 and can be purchased online at or at most newsagents. To reserve your copy or to look at the boys online: www.nakedrugbyleague.com.au Media information and interviewsDrew Lambert at Markson Sparks [email protected]
