Has nacido en San Francisco ¿Cómo es la vida de una niña en California? Es un privilegio haberme criado en Estados Unidos y Chile. En California –y en particular the Bay Area (San Francisco, Oakland, etc.) es un lugar muy diverso, progresista, abierto, respetuoso, colorido, entretenido. Es un lugar estimulante, muy activo. Fui a un colegio muy progresista, distinto, estuve expuesta a mucha cultura, mucha diversidad, independencia, arte, deportes, multiculturalidad. Fue una infancia entretenida y alegre, llena de proyectos y actividades; una familia cariñosa, trabajadora y amigos de todos las culturas, historias, credos y etnias.

Cuando volviste a Chile ¿cuáles fueron las cosas que más te llamaron la atención por diferentes? ¿Estar entre California y Chile crees que ha afectado en tu manera de ser y de relacionarte?Creo que me impactaron varias cosas cuando llegué a Chile: el machismo, el doble estándar de las cosas, la hipocresía, lo conservadora y vergonzosa de la sociedad, lo homogéneo. Todo síntoma y problema de una país pequeño y, en varias maneras, aún un poco más provinciano. Creo que las nuevas generaciones están cambiando Chile de manera radical – está saliendo a luz la energía lúcida, colorida, aceptadora, entretenida y empoderada de la sociedad – y está quedando atrás la visión más anticuada de la cual peca la sociedad tradicional chilena. Pero a la vez Chile ha sido un lugar tan cariñoso, entretenido, familiar, lleno de potencial, de estímulo, de enseñanzas; no hubiera elegido otro lugar en el cual pasar mi adolescencia, estudiar, y comenzar mi carrera musical. Ambos lugares –Chile y California- han aportado mucho a mi desarrollo, a quien soy, y a mi familia. Chile me ha entregado la oportunidad de desarrollar una carrera, de tener un impacto, de tener amistades y experiencias profundas; California me ha dado una oportunidad de conocer la diversidad, una sociedad respetuosa, grande, activa, independiente, autónoma. Mi familia es igual – mitad en Chile y mitad en EEUU.

Francisca Valenzuela es una artista chilena que ha sacado su segundo disco, “Buen soldado” (Sin Anestesia, 2012). Además de cantar y componer sus temas Francisca ha publicado dos libros: Defenseless Waters (2000) y Abejorros/Madurar (2001). Va a ser tu próxima cantante favorita. Estamos seguros!

Francisca Valenzuela is a Chilean artist who has released his second album, “Good Soldier” (Sin Anestesia, 2012). You were born in San Francisco, how is life for a girl in California?It is a privilege to have been in the United States and Chile. In California, particularly in the Bay Area (San Francisco, Oakland, etc.) is a very diverse, progressive, open, friendly, colorful, entertaining place. It is very stimulating and active. I went to a very unique, progressive school, exposed to a variety of cultures, a lot of diversity, independence, arts, sports, multiculturalism. It was a fun and happy childhood, full of projects and activities with a loving, working family, friends of all cultures, histories, believes and ethnicities.

When you went back to Chile, which were the differences that interested you the most? Being in California and Chile has changed the way you are and the way you relate?I believe several things shocked me when I arrived to Chile, male chauvinism, the double standard of things, hypocrisy, the shameful conservative society, its homogenous. All symptoms and problems of a small country, and, in many ways, more provincial, I think new generations are changing Chile dramatically, is coming to light, the lucid light, colorful, accepting, fun and empowered society, and leaving behind the outdated vision that was prevalent in traditional Chilean society. At the same time, Chile has been a place so warm, entertaining, familiar, full of potential and encouraging; I couldn’t have chosen another better place in which to spend my adolescence, to study and star my musical career. Both places – Chile and California – have added greatly to my growth, to who I am, and my family. Chile has awarded me the opportunity to develop a career, to have an impact, to have deep friendships and experiences. California has given me the opportunity to learn about diversity, a friendly, large, active, independent, autonomous society. My family is the same half in Chile half in the U.S.

What inspires you to write your lyrics?It may seem cliché, but everything. On one hand I draw on the biographical, on the confessional, on what comes spontaneously from deep inside, from the innards, be that happy, unhappy, vulnerable, joyful, doubtful, or other sensation. On the other hand, I feel like telling stories that are not necessarily biographical, I intend to talk about a particular topic, whether it is a critique, a story, a manifestation of some kind that is more specific, more conceptual.

Muérdete la lengua [Bite your tongue] is a very cool title for an album. Where does it come from?From a song in the album. It is a song about revenge, rage, writing and expressing annoyance, frustration. The idea of Muérdete la Lengua has two meanings for me; first is the revenge and counter the idea that you always have to be aware of what you say, being good, being a proper lady, nice and quiet, therefore, always being silent – “biting her tongue”. On the other hand, is simply the desire to say to those, that have unnerved you by their rudeness, their hypocrisy, their inconsistency, their selfishness- “shut up! Bite your tongue”.

You’ve been playing at the Austin festival this year (how lucky!) Have you had time to go to any of the concerts? Any particular band that you liked?Last year I was in Austin twice, first in SXSW (where I saw Foo Fighters and Civil Wars!) and then in Austin City Limits (where I saw Teophilous London and Foster the People!) Now, again this 2012 I was playing at SXSW in Austin (yes, how lucky I am, its an amazing city!) And I got to see Nikka Costa y Keane.

For a couple of years there has been much talk here about the music scene in Chile. Can you tell us about that? The Bands there, and what does having a scene means to you?I think that more than a scene, there is a generation of musicians and artists who are making authentic things, that are entrepreneurs, independent and hardworking. We each make our own project, we generate a genuine and interesting content and at the same time is a very small community where everyone knows and collaborates with each other.

Your lyrics are also committed, what are the problems that bother you?I think I am touched by all kind of issues, from social injustice, respect for minorities, gender issues, and inequality. They can be stories on a big or small scale. For example, my song Los Poderosos, talks about abuse of power and the need for real leadership, while Crónica, tells the story of a man who goes to jail for committing a crime, a crime that society itself, in its despair an inequality led him to do it.

Besides your albums, you have published two books, one of short stories and the other of poetry. Are you still writing? When do you write?Although I keep writing, I don’t do it as much as before, I try to integrate my interest in literature in the lyric of my songs, in my

¿Qué cosas te inspiran para escribir tus letras?Suena muy cliché, pero en todo. Por una parte, me baso en lo biográfico, en lo confesional, en lo que sale de manera espontánea de las vísceras, sea una sensación feliz, infeliz, vulnerable, celebratoria, dudosa, etc. Por otra parte, me nacen contar historias que no son necesariamente biográficas, me propongo hablar acerca de un tema en particular, ya sea una crítica, un cuento, una manifestación de algun tipo que es más puntual, más conceptual.

Muérdete la lengua es un título muy guay para un disco. ¿De dónde viene?De una canción que se llama así, en el álbum. Es una canción de desquite, de rabia, de ventilar y expresar la molestia, la frustración. El concepto de Muérdete la Lengua tiene 2 sentidos para mi: primero, es el desquitarse y contradecir esa idea de que uno siempre tiene que andar cuidando lo que dice, portándose bien, ser una chica compuesta, bonita y tranquila, por ende, siempre andar callada – “mordiéndose la lengua”. Por otra parte, es simplemente las ganas de decirle a aquellos, aquella o aquél que te tiene enervada –por su mala educación, su hipocresía, su inconsecuencia, su egoísmo- “cállate! muérdete la lengua!”

Has estado tocando en el festival de Austin de este año (Qué suerte!!)¿Has tenido tiempo de ver algún concierto? ¿Alguna banda que te haya gustado mucho?El año pasado estuve 2 veces en Austin – primero en SXSW (donde vi a Foo Fighters y Civil Wars!) y luego en Austin City Limits (donde vi a Teophilous London y Foster the People!). Ahora, nuevamente este 2012, estuve en Austin tocando en SXSW (sí, que suerte! es una ciudad increíble!) y vi a Nikka Costa y Keane.

Desde hace un par de años se habla mucho por aquí de la escena musical en Chile. ¿Nos cuentas un poco? Los grupos que hay, … ¿qué significa que exista una “escena” para ti?Creo que más que una “escena” hay una generación de músicos y artistas que están haciendo un contenido auténtico, que son emprendedores, independientes y trabajadores. Hacemos cada uno nuestro propio proyecto, generamos un contenido interesante y genuino y a la vez es una comunidad muy pequeña donde todos se conocen y colaboran.

Tus letras son también comprometidas ¿Cuáles son los problemas que te inquietan?Yo creo que me veo conmovida por todo tipo de problemáticas – desde injusticia social, respeto a minorías, temas de género, desigualdad. Pueden ser historias en gran escala o en pequeña escala. Por ejemplo mi canción Los Poderosos habla del abuso de poder y la necesidad de liderazgo real mientras que Crónica cuenta la historia de un hombre que va a la cárcel por cometer un crimen –un crimen que la sociedad misma, en su desesperación y desigualdad, lo llevó a cometer.

Además de tus discos, has publicado dos libros uno de cuentos y otro de poesía. ¿Sigues escribiendo? ¿En qué momentos escribes?Si bien escribo, no escribo tanto como antes e intento integrar mi

Do you have a special poem you like to keep in mind?That’s a good question! I always go back to the book Ariel by Sylvia Plath and Alan Ginsberg’s HOWL. Surely there are many others that I love, but I don’t remember them at this timeI read that you like vintage. Do you usually dive into vintage

stores? Got a fetish garment?Yes, I’m always looking for stuff in vintage stores. My favorite vintage pieces are a big dress, like a poncho, with sequin that I bought in a fair in Berlin, and my leather jacket that I bought in a used clothing store in San Francisco.

For your shows how do you prepare your outfit? What inspires you to choose it?It depends on the kind of place I will be playing, if it is a university, a disco, a theater, a stadium, a festival an whether it is day, night etc. I have several garments that I always wear – skirts, shirts, and dresses – but in fact it varies, depending on where it is, and what I feel like wearing. (In fact after I finish this interview I have to go an decide what to wear for my upcoming show at Catholic University of Chile.

It’s almost summer… it is very typical but tell us about summer love? Hahaha… I think that my best summer love story was my first kiss at age 14 – it was an unexpected romantic encounter,

mysterious, late at night on the beach, in a summer of many many parties.

And finally, will you return to Spain?Yes! I will be back in April and then in June! I’m very happy to be back.

¿Tienes algún poema en especial que te guste tener siempre presente?Qué buena pregunta!! Siempre vuelvo al libro Ariel de Sylvia Plath y HOWL de Alan Ginsberg. De seguro hay muchos otros que me encantan, pero no los recuerdo en este momento ; )

He leído que te gusta mucho el vintage. ¿Tienes alguna prenda fetiche?Sí, siempre ando buscando cositas en tiendas vintage. Mis mejores prendas regalonas vintage son un vestido grande, como un poncho, de lentejuelas que compré en una feria en Berlín y mi chaqueta de cuero que me compré en una tienda de ropa usada en San Francisco.

¿Para los conciertos cómo preparas tu vestuario? ¿En qué piensas para escogerlo?Depende mucho en qué tipo de lugar estaré tocando –si es una universidad, una discoteque, un teatro, un estadio, un festival- y si es de día, de noche, etc. Tengo ciertas prendas que siempre uso –faldas, camisas, vestidos- pero en verdad varía mucho según el lugar y lo que tengo ganas de ponerme. (De hecho luego de responder esta entrevista tengo que ir a decidir qué ponerme para mi show de ahora en la Universidad Católica de Chile!)

Ya casi es verano… es muy típico pero …¿nos cuentas un amor de verano? :PJajajaja… yo creo que mi mejor historia de amor de verano fue el de mi primer beso a los 14 años – fue un encuentro romántico inesperado, misterioso, tarde en la noche, en la playa, y un verano de mucha, mucha fiesta ; )

Y por último… ¿volverás a España?Sí! Vuelvo ahora en Abril y luego en Junio! Estoy muy contenta de regresar!!

¿De qué parte de Chile eres? ¿Y actualmente dónde vives? ¿Qué sacas de esos lugares?Soy “angelina”, nací en una pequeña ciudad con un nombre largo llamada Santa María de los Ángeles. Luego viví en Temuco, en el sur de Chile, donde llueve mucho y casi siempre es invierno. Desde hace trece años vivo en Santiago.Crecí en lugares en donde el paisaje incluye cerros frondosos, araucarias y volcanes nevados. Me gusta la vida agreste, encuentro en ella toda la belleza que necesito para ser feliz. Vivir en lugares donde la cultura es más local que universal es un alivio para la creatividad y el desarrollo de destrezas. No hay comparaciones ni referentes inalcanzables ni cánones a los que amoldarse, existe esa libertad.

¿Cuándo empezaste a dibujar?Al parecer, el primer dibujo que hice fue cuando tenía 2 años o un poco más. Cada vez que veo dibujos que hice cuando era pequeña confirmo que siempre he dibujado lo mismo. Incluso en los dibujos de familia las mujeres tienen grandes peinados, accesorios y muchos detalles en el vestuario.

¿Por qué la ilustración? ¿Porqué no otra manera de expresión?No sé si es algo que elegí, en mis primeros recuerdos ya estaba dibujando. Me gusta expresarme a través de imágenes porque puedo transformar en algo “real” lo que imagino y compartirlo con otras personas.

Así como los ojos son entendidos como las ventanas de las personas, Andrea Barja hace de los ojos el punto de inicio de cada una de sus ilustraciones. Los ojos de esta ilustradora chilena hablan de expresiones, de sentimientos, de femineidad. Se deja encantar por los retratos, bustos, camafeos y por eso sus ilustraciones se centran en rostros repletas de color.

As the eyes are understood as the windows of the soul, Andrea Barja uses the eye as a starting point for each of her drawings. The eyes of this Chilean illustrator talk about expressions, feelings and femininity. She allows herself to be enchanted by portraits, busts, cameos and that is why her illustrations focus on faces full of color.

What part of Chile are you from? Where do you live now? And what do you get out of those places?I’m “angelina” I was born in a small town with a long name called Santa Maria de los Angeles. Then I lived in Temuco in southern Chile, where it rains a lot and it’s winter most of the time. For the last thirteen years I lived in Santiago.I grew up in places where the landscape includes lush hills, pine trees and snow-capped volcanoes. I like the rustic life; there I find all the beauty that I need to be happy. Living in places where culture is more local than universal is a relief for creativity and skills development. There is no comparisons or unreachable references or canons to conform to, there is that freedom.

When did you start drawing?Apparently, the first drawing I did was when I was 2 years old or a little more. Every time I see drawings I did when I was little I confirm that I have always drawn the same things. Even in the drawings of my family you can see women with big hair, accessories and many details in their costumes.

Why illustration? Why not another way of expression?I do not know if it’s something I chose, in my earliest memories I was already drawing. I like expressing myself through images because I can transform what I imagine and share with others into something “real”.

What inspires you?My inspiration comes from a giant book full of images that I have been collecting since I exist and I treasure with all my heart.

¿Qué te inspira?Mi inspiración proviene de un libro gigante lleno de imágenes que fui recolectando desde que existo y que atesoro dentro de mi corazón.

Cuéntanos tu proceso para crear. ¿Ilustras a mano alzada, digitalizas…?Dibujo a mano alzada sobre una tableta conectada al ordenador. Lo primero que dibujo son los ojos, y dependiendo de la expresión que tengan hago el resto de la cara. El pelo me entretiene mucho, así es que un dibujo puede tener muchos peinados antes de definir con cual se quedará. Pocas veces comienzo con una idea en mente, así es que cada niña puede tener muchas versiones distintas de sí misma.

¿A quién te gustaría dibujar y por qué?Me gustaría poder dibujar a muchas niñas de distintas edades que he conocido y a otras que he visto rápidamente caminando en la calle o andando en bicicleta.

Tell us about your creative process. Do you Illustrate by hand, do you digitalize...?I freehand draw on a tablet connected to the computer. The first thing I draw are the eyes, and depending on the expression that they have I draw the rest of the face. The hair amuses me much, so a drawing can have many hairstyles before defining which remains. I rarely start with an idea in my mind, so each girl can have many different versions of herself.

Who would you like to draw and why?I wish I could draw many girls of all ages who I have met at sometime and also others that I have seen quickly walking in the street or riding a bicycle.

When you were a kid what did you prefer: paper cutout dolls, Barbie or Lego? And why?I made a complete collection of paper dolls drawn by me, with landscapes dresses cut from magazines or paint samples. Despite that I do not know if they exceeded the Barbie. I entertained myself all day creating scenes that, unfortunately, before nighttime, I had to take apart.

Barbie o Lego? ¿Por qué?Hice colecciones completas de muñecas de papel dibujadas por mi, con vestidos de paisajes recortados de revistas o con muestras de pinturas. A pesar de eso no sé si superaban a Barbie. Me entretenía durante todo el día creando las escenografías que lamentablemente, antes de que llegara la noche, tenía que desarmar.

¿Cómo definirías tu paleta de colores?Paso por períodos pasteles y por otros más folclóricos. Siempre incorporo el dorado, está en la mayoría de mis dibujos representado por un ocre suave. El color rosa carmín en distintas tonalidades tampoco puede faltar.

¿Cuántos personajes llevas ilustrados hasta ahora? ¿Te sientes identificada con alguno de ellos o tienen personalidades completamente ajenas a ti?No llevo una cuenta exacta porque hay muchos que aún no he publicado y otros aún en proceso. Las personalidades siempre varían: algunas son sólo actitudes, otras sentimientos. Estados que, más que atribuibles a una sola persona, se pueden identificar en el mundo femenino en general.

Tus personajes se quedarán sobre papel o crees que podrían saltar a otra plataforma: cerámica, tela…Tengo muchas ideas en mente pero voy con calma para no quedarme sin entretenimiento! Espero poder hacer pronto estampados para telas, camisetas, tote bags, etc.

How would you define your color palette?I go through pastel periods, and other more folksy, I always include gold in most of my drawings represented by a soft ocher. The carmine pink lipstick in shades doesn’t fail either.

How many characters have you illustrated so far? Do you feel identified with any of them or do they have personalities completely alien to you?I do not keep count because there are many characters who have not yet been published and others that are still in progress. The personalities always vary: some are just attitudes, others feelings, moods that, rather than belong to a single person can be identified in the female world in general.

Your characters will stay on paper or do you think they might jump to another stage: ceramics, fabric...I have many ideas in mind but I take it easy so I don’t run out of entertainment! I hope to do fabric prints soon, T-shirts, tote bags, etc.

¿Cuál es tu primer recuerdo de una joya?Una cadenita que me regaló mi “madrina” para mi bautismo, al cual nunca asistí... Mis padres se olvidaron que mi abuela había organizado mi bautismo y ese día disfrutábamos de una tarde en el campo.... Claro, no existía la tecnología de hoy para resolver estos pequeños olvidos!

¿Cuál es tu joya más preciada?El tiempo y en breve será mi hijo.

¿Joyería o bisutería?Bisutería de autor.

¿Cuándo nace amora?Todo empezó hace unos dos años, cuando decidí emprender un proyecto personal completamente nuevo y diferente a lo que venía haciendo (soy Ingeniera Industrial) con una gran carga personal y creativa. Así nació amora y en pocas palabras lo resumo como la “búsqueda, captura e intervención de objetos”.

¿Qué tipo de cosas te inspiran?Todo, voy por la vida (sobre todo cuando viajo a otros países) mirando los objetos y analizando si son susceptibles de ser intervenidos de alguna manera. Los mercadillos de antigüedades ofrecen muchísimas posibilidades pero también las mercerías y sus mil botones, tiendas de bellas artes con sus variadas posibilidades de pinturas de innumerables colores, las carpinterías... pero sobre todo me flipan las ferreterías!!! y sus mil tamaños de tornillos, arandelas, herramientas, pegamentos, soluciones para todo. Son realmente donde encuentro la manera concreta de como intervenir un objeto según la idea que se me presentó en la cabeza…

What is the piece of jewelry you remember the most?A chain that my “godmother” gave me for my baptism, which I never attended... My parents forgot that my grandmother had organized my baptism and that day we enjoyed an afternoon in the countryside.... Of course, the technology of today did not exist then to solve these little oversights!

What is your most precious jewel?Time and soon it will be my son.

When was amora born?It all started about two years ago when I decided to undertake a personal project completely new and different from what I was doing (I’m an Industrial Engineer) with a great personal and creative contribution.That was how Amora was born and I briefly summarize it as “the pursuit, capture and intervention of objects.”

What things inspire you?Everything, I go through life (especially when I travel to other countries) looking at things and analyze whether they are capable of being intervened in some way. The antique shops offer many possibilities but also the haberdashery shops and their thousands of buttons, and the fine arts stores with its various possibilities of paintings of countless colors, the carpenters workshop... but mostly, I love the hardware stores! And its thousand sizes of screws, washers, tools, glues, solutions for everything. It is where I can really find practical ways to intervene an object in the way I have thought of it...

amora are little treasures from countries and faraway places. More than grandma’s jewelry they’re Grandma’s knick-knacks: the hand of a clock, a rare button, a lost picture, the ornament of a box. All excavated, restored and refreshed. Things from the past, more or less remote, with a new life. Mora Marques is the person behind amora.

How would you define your style?Pretty Marco Polian. (eh?)

Do you believe in a kind of neo-jewelry boom?Mmmmm.... no idea! I do my part.

Are your pieces very expensive?No, I enjoy doing what I do and making my pieces accessible to everybody. So I adjust the price down as much as I can.

What did you want to be when you were a child?As a child I wanted to be a veterinarian. I ended up designing and making jewelry... life is a carrousel.

What do you want to be when you grow up?Above all, happy.

¿Cómo definirías tu estilo?Bastante Marcopolero. (¿eh?)

¿Cómo ves el futuro de la artesanía?Cada vez más complicado sobre todo por la sociedad de consumo en la que vivimos, donde se prefiere comprar-tirar-volver a comprar. La artesanía no resiste este sistema. Lo bueno es que a medida que la gente se hace (me hago) mayor valora (y valoro) más este tipo de arte y el esfuerzo que hay detrás.

¿Crees en una especie de boom de neojoyería?Mmmmm.... ni idea! Yo aporto mi granito de arena.

¿Son muy caras tus piezas?No, disfruto haciendo lo que hago y logrando que mis piezas estén al alcance de todos. Por eso ajusto el precio todo lo posible.

¿Qué querías ser de mayor?De pequeña quería ser veterinaria Terminé diseñando y fabricando joyas... las vueltas de la vida.

¿Qué quieres ser de mayor?Sobre todo, feliz.

¿Cómo describiríais vuestro trabajo?Kady - Lo que hago es crear. Específicamente soy diseñadora y artista visual. La mayoría de mi trabajo se centra en tipografía con un toque de humor y estrechamente relacionado con mi vida personal. Mi trabajo de diseño es prácticamente lo mismo aunque un poco menos personal. Nos conocimos cuando íbamos a la escuela de arte en Chicago, en diferentes momentos, pero después de darnos cuenta de que nos conocíamos entre sí, empezamos a salir juntas. What do you do? How do you describe your work?Kady - What I do is create. More specifically, I’m a designer and a visual artist. Most of my work is typographically centered, with a touch of humor and linked closely to my personal life. My design work is much the same, although a little less personal. I love for typography, which can be seen through my work.

Lauren - I make things, I eavesdrop and I watch. Creation vs. Art.

Jillian - I create. My work is often very personal or meant to have human interaction. Very rarely do I work on a project that comes to fruition without working with my hands. Process and purpose are very important to me—nothing is random. Most of my work is type heavy and I do a lot of hand lettering.

Tell us a little about the three of you that together settled Inflated / Deflated. How did you meet each other? How did you get to work with balloons? What are your backgrounds?We’re all formally educated in graphic design, but share a love for creating with our hands. The three of us met while attending art school in Chicago. We met at different times but after being reunited and realizing we all knew each other we started hanging out. We wanted to become a collective so we could create projects together. How we started working with balloons is kind of a funny story. Lauren threw a party at her apartment in celebration of 11/11/11 in which she filled the room with hundreds of balloons (just to give a fun atmosphere) The next day we had planned to have a collaborative meeting

These words are marked on the surface of inflated balloons, and like that of one’s thoughts being released, so too is the air of the balloon. Deflated the once largely marked letters become small, expressive, and intricate forms”, this is how Kady, Lauren and Jillian describe their touching project.

la que llenó el salón con cientos de globos (sólo para tener una atmósfera divertida) y para el día siguiente había planeado tener una reunión de colaboración sobre la creación de un colectivo y una sesión de fotos con nuestro amigo y fotógrafo Nate Legsdin. En la casa había restos de globos de la fiesta y, mientras estábamos sentados en la reunión, comenzamos a jugar con ellos… una cosa llevó a otra, lo que resultó en el niño querido que luego se conoció como Inflated/Deflated.

¿Cómo es el proceso para obtener un Inflated/Deflated definitivo? Los ingredientes principales son un globo, rotulador permanente, respiración profunda y pasión. Mezclamos todo eso y esperamos que algo bonito y significativo sea el resultado. Una vez que tenemos un globo con el que nos sentimos felices, Nate lo fotografía y lo edita. ¿Es un trabajo autobiográfico?Absolutamente, no sólo para nosotros sino para los demás también. La parte más gratificante del proyecto ha sido ver las respuestas de la gente y cómo los globos hablan del significado de sus vidas. A veces, los globos reflejan momentos divertidos o recuerdos y, a menudo reflejan las cosas que estamos tratando en ese momento. Todo lo que escribimos en un globo es algo que nos golpea personalmente. El hecho de que la gente de todo el mundo puede relacionarse con esto hace que todo parezca un poco más posible.

about creating a collective and a photo-shoot with our friend and photographer Nate Legsdin. There were leftover balloons from the party and while we were sitting around we started playing with them. One thing led to another, which resulted in the love child that came to be known as Inflated/Deflated.

How is the process to get a final inflated/deflated?The main ingredients are a balloon, permanent marker, deep breath and passion. We mix all of those and hope that something beautiful and meaningful is the result. Once we get a balloon we’re happy with, Nate photographs and edits them. The project wouldn’t be as impacting without his work. The photos are then put onto our website where one gets posted each day.

Is it an autobiographic work?It absolutely is, not only for us but for others as well. The most rewarding part of the project has been to see people’s responses and how the balloons speak relevance to their lives. Sometimes the balloons reflect funny moments or memories and often they reflect things we are dealing with at the moment. Everything we write on a balloon is something that hits us personally. The fact that people around the world can relate to this makes everything seem just a little bit more possible.

¿Por qué globos?Trabajar con globos fue una decisión espontánea, no fue planeado, pero es un medio en el que ha sido muy gratificante trabajar. Los colores son fantásticos y animados, además que los globos como tal reúnen tantas emociones y significan tantas cosas para la gente en diferentes etapas de su vida.. Celebraciones, niñez… los globos son objetos muy mordaces; abrazan como una suerte de inocencia.

¿Qué os inspiran? ¿Tienen lugares o espacios específicos en los que se inspiran? Kady – Personalmente me siento inspirada por la gente creativa que me rodea. Chicago tiene una gran comunidad de artistas y diseñadores que desarrollan trabajo que realmente te logran inspirar. Todo lo que tengo alrededor me inspira, como la tipografía de los viejos carteles, portadas de libros antiguos, los patrones formados por la naturaleza o los ladrillos de un edificio.

Lauren – ¡A mi me inspira todo! Trato de verlo todo como algo que podría convertirse en algo más. El observar a la gente y escuchar a escondidas es lo mío.

Jillian – Lo que más me inspira es la gente. La manera en la que trabajan nuestras mentes y la manera en la que diferimos, me sorprende. Además de eso, estoy trabajando en proyectos con amigos, yendo a exposiciones, me inspira la música, el cine y el arte, disfruto con mis amigos y comiendo guacamole.

Lauren – Hago grandes listas de cosas que quiero hacer y por lo general termino haciendo todo lo contrario. Acumulo papeles y tengo sueños de que un día los compilaré todos en un tipo de proyecto. -Why balloons?Working with balloons was a spontaneous decision, not a planned one, but it is a medium that has been incredibly rewarding to work with. The colors are fantastic and lively and there are so many emotions attached to balloons and what they have represented in people’s lives. Celebration, childhood... balloons are very pungent object. They hold a certain kind of innocence.

What inspires you? Do you have people or places that inspires you?Kady - Personally I’m inspired by creative individuals who surrounded me. Chicago has a great community of artists and designers who are creating work that’s quite inspiring. Everything around me inspires me too, like the typography of old signs, old book covers, the patterns formed by nature or the bricks of a building.

Lauren -I’m inspired by everything! I try to look at everything as something that could be something more. People watching and eavesdropping is my thing.

Jillian - People inspire me most of all. The way our minds work and the ways in which we differ amaze me. I love to people watch and I love a good cup of coffee, so I frequent local coffee shops and find them incredibly inspiring. Travel has made a huge impact on my life and most of my work reflects my experiences in one-way or another, though usually just in process. I also find cities paired with nature incredibly inspiring, like San Francisco. There is nothing that makes me feel more alive than seeing a city, mountains, and a body of water all at the same time. Another huge source of inspiration for me is Books- both their covers and their guts. Also the ocean. And museums. And music. I could probably go on forever about what inspires me...

What do you do when you are not inflating / deflating?Kady - When I’m not working with balloons I am creating in some other form. School and work enable me to do what I love – designing and creating art. Other than that I am working on projects with friends, going to art shows, being inspired by music, movies and art, spending time with friends, and eating guacamole.

Lauren - I make big lists of things I want to do and usually end up doing the opposite. I hoard paper and have dreams of one day compiling them into it’s own kind of project. I like riding my bike, eating macaroni and cheese, and playing with alternative canvases. I do a lot of web work and illustrating. I don’t really consider myself an artist, more so a creative. I like bending the rules and I think that shines through in what I make. I’m trying to make more time for sleep.

Jillian - I spend a lot of time with my friends. People inspire me, and most of the time we are working and creating together. We go to a lot of art shows and concerts and eat a lot of burritos. I also spend a ton of time working on graphic design work, illustrating,

-Have you exhibit your work in another gallery or shop before?The balloons have been featured in a few different publications worldwide now, and in a few spaces and on many design blogs. It’s been amazing and totally wild. We are so grateful that people are receptive and relate to the work.

If someone goes to Chicago, what will be your -it’s a must- recommendation?Kady - I would recommend taking a walk on the lakefront by the Adler Planetarium. Here you’re concurrently surrounded by Lake Michigan and have an amazing view of Chicago’s skyline. It’s beautiful and a nice escape in a loud, buzzing city.

Jillian - This might sound totally boring but the museums are so amazing, especially the art museums. I highly recommend checking out The Art Institute and the Museum of Contemporary Art. There is also a small photography museum run by the college we all went to called MOCP (Museum of Contemporary Photography) that has an amazing collection and is worth checking out.

5/ Say “I love you”. Many of us aren’t really open about how we feel. Let me ask you, when was the last time you told them I love you and gave them a hug? So get up and find your mom and dad, tell them I love you and give them a hug before the day ends. Don’t wait till it’s too late. Be grateful for all that you have now and show it.

6/ Have a conversation with a grandparent. We suggest that you sit down and have a real conversation with one of your grandparents. For those who haven’t had the chance to try this, it may surprise you to find out that grandparents usually have the best advice and, better yet, the craziest stories.

7/ Face one of your fears. We all have our phobias. Be it spiders, ghosts, heights or the dark. When we dare you to face one of your fears, we aren’t suggesting that you come into contact with every 8-legged creature that you see or that you parachute off one of your local skyscrapers. Instead, we suggest taking baby steps towards better understanding- and ultimately, overcoming- what you’re afraid of. The thrill of facing your fear and the sense of accomplishment after overcoming it might even be enough to inspire you to choose and face another one!

12/ ¡Fiesta en la bañera! Rellena tu bañera con 5 personas, puede que sea un tanto doloroso pero inténtalo que seguro te divertirás.

13/ Haz una fiesta sorpresa sin razón alguna. ¿Por qué esperar un cumpleaños? Escoge un amigo, y haz una fiesta sólo para decirle a esa persona lo maravilloso/a que es.

14/ Escribe una carta a tu YO a los 13 años. Los 13 para algunos, puede ser esa “etapa difícil” y el comienzo del desarrollo de la identidad, donde la inseguridad y la incertidumbre se convierten en lugar común. Para este reto debes ser mayor de edad, un tanto maduro y con algo experiencia.

15/ Haz una versión de la peor canción en la vida. Desde el fondo, no hay a dónde más ir sino hacia arriba. Tu versión será definitivamente mejor que la original. (Si todo esto falla, dile a tus amigos que era una parodia.)

16/ Elogia a 5 personas diferentes. Un simple elogio sobre la vestimenta, peinado, la personalidad de alguien o incluso sobre su sonrisa, ¡realmente puede iluminar el día!

17/ Escribe una carta a tu YO del futuro. Escribir cartas ya no es tan popular gracias a Internet. Es el momento de tomar lápiz y papel de nuevo, y para hacerlo más sencillo, escríbe una carta a tu YO del futuro. Escribe lo que sientes, lo que estás haciendo, tus problemas actuales o ¡las razones por las que eres feliz!

18/ Ríe hasta que te duela el estómago. Reír ayuda a aliviar todo tipo de estrés y siempre nos hace sentir mejor de una manera u otra. Así que reúne a un par de amigos y ríanse hasta que se les salga el corazón. Te sugerimos pilles un par de películas, vídeos en YouTube, 9gag o incluso una conversación para ponerse al día.

19/ Canta en voz alta. Canta desde lo profundo de tu corazón tus canciones favoritas y siéntete segura. No dejes que nadie te desaliente.

8/ Write down 50 things that makes you smile. It can be your favorite dish, a television show, a loved one or maybe even a childhood memory.

9/ Hold your tongue for a day. In the midst of a hustling and bustling life, it is easy for us to get carried away by all the noise around us. Why not take one day off and avoid talking. PERIOD. Yes, that means no talking to anyone, including yourself. It’s nice to appreciate the silence once in a while.

10/ Arrange your wardrobe. It’s about time you pull out your clothes and accessories from your wardrobe that you no longer use and replace them with new things. Don’t ask for any house-help, that’s cheating.

11/ Build a blanket fort. There are many things you did as a kid, but have stopped doing because you’ve ‘grown up’. Give your inner kid a chance to shine, and camp out in the living room, old school—blanket fort style.

12/ Hipster bathtub party! Cramming 5 people into a bathtub is probably pretty painful, but try it, for sure you’ll have fun.

13/ Throw a surprise party for no reason. Why wait for a birthday? Pick a friend, and throw a party just to tell that person how awesome he/she is.

14/ Letter to your 13-year old self. The age of 13 marks the beginning of one’s teen-age years, or one’s young-adolescent life. For some, it may be the start of identity development, also known as the “awkward stage” where insecurities and uncertainty becomes commonplace. For this challenge you must be older in age, more mature and hopefully more experienced.

15/ Make a cover of the worst song ever. From rock bottom, there’s nowhere to go but upwards. Your cover will DEFINITELY be better than the original. (If all else fails, tell your friends it was a parody.)

16/ Compliment 5 different people. Compliments can go a long way. A simple acknowledgement of someone’s attire, hairstyle, personality or even just his or her smile can truly brighten up one’s day!

20/ Baila como si nadie te viera. Baila al ritmo de tus canciones favoritas ya sea solo o con tus amigos. Baila todo lo que quieras y exprésate bailando en lugar de con palabras. No tengas miedo de lo que otros puedan decir. Sólo disfruta y diviértete.

21/ Juega a Cupido. Generalmente no es bueno meterse en la vida amorosa de los demás, pero hay algunas parejas que están a la espera de ese empujón para llevar su relación al siguiente nivel! SÉ TÚ ESE EMPUJÓN!

22/ ¡Tratamientos faciales hechos en casa! Disfruta de los beneficios de un tratamiento facial profesional sin tener que reventar tu presupuesto. Googlea “tratamientos faciales” para encontrar recetas baratas y refrescantes que utilicen ingredientes más cotidianos como avena, claras de huevo y frutas diversas.

23/ Planifica tus vacaciones ideales. Lo mejor de todo es que ¡no importa si de verdad las cumples! Planea unas vacaciones con todo, sin tener que preocuparte por el presupuesto o la duración. Disfrutarás de imaginarte en esos lugares y ¿por qué no? Quizá los puedas llevar a cabo en algún momento.

24/ Saluda y sonríe a ese enamorado. En algún momento de nuestras vidas todos nos enamoramos, sea uno de esos amores felices o intensos. Es hora de armarse de valor, saludar y sonreírle a ese enamorado. Muéstrale esos hermosos dientes y ese coraje que has sacado.

18/ Laugh ‘til your stomach hurts. Laughing helps relieve all kinds of stress and it always makes us feel better one way or another. So grab a couple of friends and laugh your hearts out. We suggest a couple of movies, short clips on youtube, 9gag or even catching up.

19/ Sign out loud. Sing your heart out to your favorite songs and be confident about it. Don’t let anyone bring you down or get to you.

20/ Dance like no one’s watching. Dance to your favorite beats whether alone or with your friends. Dance as much as you want and express yourself through this instead of through words. Don’t be afraid of what others will say or if they judge you. Just enjoy and have fun.

¿De dónde sale ese título?No tiene un significado muy especial, es una chorrada, o sea una broma entre mi hermana y yo. En los ochenta te acuerdas que empezaron a hacer muchos anuncios con el tema de la liberación de la mujer y su incorporación al mercado laboral como con mujeres perfectas, guapas, directivas... Y había un anuncio (risas) de Ponds, de una tía que estaba en un laboratorio y salía y decía “yo, que vivo con mi tiempo y el progreso...” y nosotras pues hacíamos esa broma. Lo puse de título de coña al principio y no pensé en otro, y al final se quedó (risas). Lo que haces nos transporta a una España muy guay. Como del 75 al 92. Una España de esplendor y veraneos de un mes y hoteles bonitos y chicas en moto con el pelo de lado. (Ana se ríe). ¿Eres Nostálgica?Totalmente. La mayoría de la música que hago no es que esté basada en los ochenta, está más bien basada, tanto las letras como la música, en la nostalgia.Me gustan mucho los sonidos de las bandas sonoras de finales de los 70 y principios de los 80. Supongo que es porque son los recuerdos que tengo. Y encima ahora con youtube puedes refrescar la memoria! Yo estoy muy obsesionada con todo eso… quizá demasiado (risas). Con la estética de las películas de Brian de Palma… ese punto que la gente ve hortera muchas veces. Es hortera!… porque queda muy lejano. Yo lo encuentro fascinante. Hay una canción en concreto en la que hablo de mi infancia, cuando veraneaba en Cádiz con mi familia, las discotecas, la Joy Sherry (risas), los tíos con los abanicos de Locomía, Miguel Bosé… estoy desvariando! Yo era muy pequeña para salir, pero recuerdo a mi hermana mayor y a mi prima, la de la portada de Fabuloso San José, yendo como locas a ver a Miguel Bosé. Los magazines juveniles con los Pecos en las portadas… Dicen que cualquier tiempo pasado fue mejor. No lo sé. Vivimos una infancia en una España resplandeciente, desde el punto de vista social y económico. Visto lo visto.Total, fue una época de esplendor, y también es verdad que veníamos de una muy gris, que nosotros no recordamos. Pero en cuanto te pones a ver fotos y ves por ejemplo… cómo vivían tu abuelos… una vida gris. Y marrón. Y luego llegó el lujo y ese “todo vale”. Todo el mundo quería agradar, y era “hortera”. Pero era guay. Como Tino Casal!

Linda Mirada es el olor a espuma moldeadora Studio Line mezclado con brisa de mar. La chica de la vespino, tu hermana mayor maquillándose, una lata de Nivea. Detrás de Linda Mirada está Ana Naranjo. Nos vuelve locos Linda Mirada y estamos locamente enamorados de Ana. Hablamos con ella antes del lanzamiento de su segundo álbum, Con Mi Tiempo Y El Progreso.

Linda Mirada represents the smell of Studio Line moulding foam mixed with sea breeze. The girl riding the vespino, your older sister putting on her makeup, a Nivea can. Behind Linda Mirada stands Ana Naranjo. Linda Mirada drives us crazy and we are madly in love with Ana. We spoke with her before the launch of her second album, Con Mi Tiempo Y El Progreso (With My Time and The Progress).

Where does that title come from?It does not have a special meaning, it is just a joke, an inside joke between my sister and I. If you remember, in the 80s there were many ads that focused on women liberation and featured them joining the job market as perfect women, beautiful, executive women… and there was one ad (laughs) by Ponds, where there was this woman leaving a laboratory saying “I live with my time and the progress…” and we use to joke about that. I first named the album like that as a joke and did not think of any other title, and in the end it stuck (laughs). What you do is take us back to a very cool Spain. Like from 75 to 92. A Spain full of splendour, one month summers, and beautiful hotels, and girls on motorbikes with their hair off to the side. (Ana laughs). Are you nostalgic?Completely. The majority of the music that I make; it’s not that is based on the 80s, more than anything it is based –both the lyrics and the music—in nostalgia. I really like the sounds from original soundtracks of the end of the 70s and early 80s. I guess it is because of the memories that I have. Even more so now with YouTube, you can refresh your memory! I am very much obsessed with all of that… maybe too much (laughs). With the aesthetic feel of Brian de Palma films… that which people often consider to be tacky. It is tacky! ... because it seems so far away. I find it fascinating. There is one song in particular in which I talk about my childhood, when I spent my summers with my family in Cadiz, the discotheques, the Joy Sherry (laughs), the guys with the fans from Locomia, Miguel Bosé… I digress! I was much too young to go out, but I remember my older sister and my cousin, the one from the cover image of Fabuloso San Jose, going all crazy on their way to see Miguel Bosé. The youth magazines with the Pecos on the cover… it is said that any time of the past is better than now. I don’t know. We lived a childhood in a glittering Spain, from the social and economic point of view. Seeing how things are now. For sure, it was an age of splendour, and it is also true that we came from a very grey age, which we don’t remember. But as soon as you look at photos and you see for example… how your grandparents lived… a grey life. And brown. And then luxury arrived and that “anything goes” mentality. Everyone wanted to make people feel good, and it was tacky. But it was cool. Like Tino Casal!

¿Era antes del salto de las comunicaciones e Internet, y quizá por eso todo un poco más auténtico?Yo creo que los ochenta, por lo menos en música, fue el último período de experimentación. De “vamos a hacer algo nuevo”. Yo creo que a partir de entonces todo está hecho y todo es “editar”. Supongo que eso tiene que ver también con esplendor económico (risas). No lo sé… Tu trabajas en la música “full time job”, en un sello. ¿Cómo es y en qué afecta ver las cosas desde los dos lados?Hombre, yo creo que lo que te hace es tener un poco más los pies en la tierra, y ser más consciente de lo que va a pasar y lo que no va a pasar… El otro día un amigo me decía de un grupo, “parece que están en casa esperando a que les llamen.” Yo ya sé que nadie va a llamar (risas), soy consciente de hasta donde puedes llegar. Está claro que lo que yo hago lo hago por disfrutar, y lo hago en mi tiempo libre, y no va a trascender más allá de unos límites. Y hombre, también eso te hace ser un poco más escéptico, y a veces no te tiras a la piscina por miedo a darte un batacazo (risas). Y con los pies menos en la tierra, quizá si lo haces. Yo soy consciente de mis límites y lo que hago es para que me guste a mi, a la gente que me rodea… y poco más. ¿Cómo empezaste? ¿de un día para otro? O solías cantar de siempre, en tu casa…No, yo lo de cantar nunca. Nunca he tenido ninguna afición por lo de cantar y se nota, mis cualidades son bastante limitadas (sonríe). Pero no sé, de repente un día empecé a hacer canciones. Y me di cuenta de que las canciones se hacen de una manera. Es como cocinar. Un día alguien te dice lo básico y empiezas a probar. Así que empecé y un amigo me animó a grabarlas, y a partir de ahí. Pero lo de cantar, pues eso, nunca he tenido afición, pero son mis canciones, quien va a cantarlas sino yo! (risas). Y ya que lo dices, ¿has pensado alguna vez en hacer canciones para otros?No lo había pensado. No tengo mucho tiempo libre… pero si alguien me lo propone, no lo vería mal. Lo que más me gusta es hacer canciones, lo de cantar viene después. Es un esfuerzo, de hecho, que me supera muchas veces. ¿Qué tal el escenario?También me supera bastante. Me cuesta mucho. Sí. Te tomas un whiskito?(Risas) Sí, sí lo hago. Antes y durante. (risas) ¿Y en cuanto al vestuario? ¿Te resulta fácil?A mi me parece importante la puesta en escena. Para mí no debe ser muy excesiva, pero sí es importante. Pero incluso con un vaquero y una camiseta. Me gusta ir acorde con mi hermana cuando toco con ella. Llevamos las dos teclados. All of that took place before the communication leap and the Internet, and perhaps that is why everything seemed more authentic?I think that the 80s, at least regarding music, was the last period of experimentation. I don’t know. You work in music full time at a label. How is that and how does it affect you to see things from both sides?Well, I think that what it does is to put your feet a bit more on the ground, and to be more conscious of what is going to happen and what is not going to happen… The other day a friend was talking to me about a band, saying: “it seems that they are home waiting for that phone call”. I already know that no one is going to call me (laughs), I am aware of how far you can go. It is clear that what I do, I do it for my own pleasure, and I do it in my free time, and it will not transcend further than certain limits. And well, that also makes you more sceptical, and sometimes you do not dive into the pool out of fear of falling flat on your face (laughs). And when your feet are less on the ground, perhaps you will dive in. I am aware of my limits and what I do, I do it for me and for the people around me… and little else. How did you start? From one day to the next? Or have you always sung, in your home…No, I had never sung before. I have never been a fan of singing and you can tell, my qualities are very limited (smiles). But I don’t know, one day I started making songs. And I realised that songs are made in a certain way. It is like cooking. One day someone tells you the basics and you start experimenting. And so I started and a friend told me to start recording them, and that is how it started. But regarding singing, I have never been a singer, but they are my songs, who will sing them if not me! (laughs). And now that you mention it, have you ever thought of making songs for other people?I have never thought about it. I don’t have much free time… but if someone proposes that to me, I would be ok with it. What I like the most is to make songs, singing comes after. It does take effort; in fact, many times I am overwhelmed by it.

What about being on stage?I am also overwhelmed by that. It is very hard for me. Yes

Do you take a shot of whisky?(Laughs) Yes, I do. Before and during (laughs).

And regarding clothes, is that easier for you?I think your presence on stage is important. It should not be something exaggerated, but it is important. But even if you are wearing just some jeans and a t-shirt. I like to dress alike with my sister when I play with her. We both play keyboards.

Ellos siempre han sido muy musicales, de escuchar mucha música. ¿Y qué se escuchaban?Hombre, mi padre es muy de chaqueta de pana. Socialista de toda la vida, librero. Amigo de Patxi Andion, de Pablo Guerrero, Serrat… Muy intelectual. Pero abierto. Nunca ha habido nada tipo “qué superficial eso que haces…” jajaja. Tiene sentido del humor. Bueno, a veces. Jajaja. ¿Quién te inspira estética y musicalmente?Me gusta mucho Nite Jewel. Una chica de San Francisco que me hizo una remezcla en el disco anterior. Me gusta mucho como va vestida cuando va a tocar, y en los videos.. Luego me encanta Ariel Pink, (risas), cuando sale cantando y va con un bolso cruzado (carcajadas), el bolso déjalo que no te lo van a robar!! JajajaMe encantan los sitios de playa, los veraneos de pequeña que te decía. La estética de American Gigolo, la música, la imagen del tío en el coche con la canción de Blondie de Call Me. La chica, ¿cómo se llama esa modelo? Lauren Hutton! Me encantan las modelos de antes. Las de Helmut Newton, Brooke Shields en los anuncios de Calvin Klein… Podría no acabar nunca. Con mi tiempo y el progreso ya a la venta. En directo el 18 y 19 de Mayo en la Sala Juglar de Madrid.

The basic format that we do is the both of us on keyboards launching the bases. She is very good she catches on very quickly. She helps me with the programs. And what did they listen to?Well, my dad is quite keen on his corduroy jackets. He has been a lifelong socialist, he worked at a bookshop. He was friends with Patxi Andion, Pablo Guerrero, Serrat… quite the intellectual. But open. He has never said something like “what you make is so superficial…” hahaha. He has a sense of humour. sometimes. Hahaha. Who inspires you musically and aesthetically?I really like Nite Jewel. She is a girl from San Francisco that made me a remix in the previous album. I really like how she dresses when she plays, and in the videos… Then I also like Ariel Pink, (laughs), when he is singing and he is wearing a bag across his chest (laughs), leave the bag alone, it will not be stolen! HahahaI like seaside places, the summers that I mentioned to you before when I was a little girl. The American Gigolo aesthetic, the music, the image of that guy in the car with Blondie’s song Call Me. The girl, what was the name of that model? Lauren Hutton! I love the models from back then. Linda Mirada: Jumpsuit Kling

El aceite de oliva es antioxidante, ayuda a proteger la piel, retrasa el envejecimiento e hidrata. La luffa es una esponja vegetal, además de exfoliante, así que limpia, reactiva la circulación y previene la celulitis. Es decir que con el aceite de oliva y la luffa tendremos la piel de culito de bebé.

Atención, esta receta la puedes hacer con o sin la luffa, que encontrarás en cualquier supermercado o herbolario. Si decides hacerla con ella, necesitarás un molde cilíndrico de 10 cm de altura por 7 cm de diámetro. Si no lo tienes, te digo como hacerlo: con un tubo de PVC y papel de estraza, corta el papel de estraza en cuadrados, colócalo en una de las bases del tubo y séllalo con una cinta para que solo quede una apertura y ¡ya tienes el molde!

Para hacer el jabón necesitamos:-Un recipiente para poner la mezcla que no sea de estaño ni de aluminio-Un palo o cuchara de madera-Un molde (si no lo haces con luffa puedes utilizar cualquier molde de plástico, por ejemplo cubitos con formas divertidas)-Guantes -2 litros de aceite de oliva-2 litros de agua-250 gr de sosa cáustica

Why? Because olive oil is an antioxidant, helps protect the skin, delays aging and hydrates, and the luffa is a loofah and also a scrub, so it cleans, reactivates the circulation and prevents cellulite. This means that we will have the skin of a baby’s bottom.

Please note, this recipe can be made with or without luffa, if you decide to do it, you will need a cylindrical mold of 10cm height by 7cm in diameter, but if you don’t have it, I will tell you how to make it. With a PVC pipe and wrapping paper, cut the wrapping paper into squares, place it on a basis of the tube and seal it with masking tape, so that only one opening be left.

We will need:-A container for the mix, it can’t be neither aluminum nor tin-A wooden spoon or stick-Mold (if you don’t do it with Luffa you can use any plastic mold, like the cubes in funny shapes)-Gloves-2 liters of olive oil-2 liters of water-250 gr. caustic soda

Pensando que se acerca el verano y tenemos que estar frescas y radiantes como una lechuga, he decidido daros la receta para hacer jabón artesanal, de una manera súper sencilla y con ingredientes naturales. Lo mejor de esta actividad es que nos permite combinar colores y fragancias para lograr una infinidad de opciones. Hoy probaremos con el Jabón de aceite de Oliva con Luffa.

Hello dear friends, dear rubies… welcome once again to Tina More’s Clinic. Thinking that summer is forthcoming and we need to be fresh as a daisy, I decided to give you the recipe to make homemade soap, in a super simple way and with all natural ingredients. The best of this is that we can combine colors and scents to achieve a myriad of options. But today we will try the olive oil soap with luffa.

A trabajar:Unas horas antes de empezar a hacer el jabón viertes los 2 litros de agua en el recipiente y con MUCHO MUCHO cuidado (usa los guantes desde ya) echas la sosa en el agua. En ningún momento toques con la mano la sosa cáustica, ¡porque puedes quemarte la piel! Al preparar esta disolución observarás que se desprende calor, es normal. Lo remueves durante unos minutos. ¡Con cuidado de no respirar los vapores!

Cuando la sosa esté disuelta en unas horas, incorpora poco a poco los 2 litros de aceite sin dejar de dar vueltas con la cuchara de madera durante media hora, empezará a coger textura de mayonesa casera. No dejes de mover la mezcla siempre en la misma dirección para que no se corte. Cuando la mezcla parezca una masa de pan o pizza, es cuando le puedes añadir colorantes y aromas. Yo os aconsejo aromas naturales o que sean preconcebidos para cosméticos.

At Work:A few hours prior to start making the soap pour 2 liters of water in the container. Be very careful (use gloves from know on) pour the soda in the water. Never touch the caustic soda with your hands, it can burn your skin!! Preparing this solution you will notice heat is evolved, it is normal. You mix it for a few minutes being careful not to breathe the fumes.

When the soda is dissolved after a few hours, gradually pour the 2 liters of oil while still mixing with the wooden spoon for half an hour. It will start to gain texture of a homemade mayonnaise, be sure to mix it constantly in the same direction, so it doesn’t spoil. When the mixture resembles bread or pizza dough, is when you can add colors and scents. I advise to use natural scents or the ones preconceived for cosmetics.

Finalmente, coloca la luffa dentro del molde y vuelca la mezcla del jabón, debes dejarlo endurecer durante 2 o 3 días, después podrás cortarlo en rodajas, lo dejas ventilar y violá! Está listo para dejarte una piel perfecta para el veraninchi!!!!

Finally, place the luffa inside the mold and pour the mixture of soap, you should leave it 2 to 3 days to harden, then you can cut it into slices, let it air and voila! Ready to leave for the summery perfect skin!!!

¿Cuál es la trayectoria de Dosdetres?En los inicios participamos en diversos concursos de diseño, de los cuales habitualmente se suele obtener más experiencia que resultados. Mientras estábamos en esto y sin tener un espacio de trabajo establecido surgió la idea junto con otros compañeros de carrera de buscar un local en el cual pudiéramos desarrollar las actividades que teníamos entre manos. Encontramos un local interesante y empezamos a pensar en diseñar objetos que nosotros mismos pudiésemos fabricar para más tarde venderlos. Una cosa estaba muy clara, disponíamos de poco dinero, así que se nos ocurrió empezar reutilizando pequeños objetos en desuso o averiados, y dándoles así una nueva vida.

Cuéntenos un poco su manera de trabajar. ¿Qué los inspira?Como a todos los interioristas nos inspiran siempre los grandes diseños del pasado y del presente, pero en la misma medida que también nos inspira el hecho de diseñar cosas a partir de la reutilización, y esto nos parece muy importante. La necesidad de tener un presupuesto reducido porque estamos empezando, unido a la necesidad de gastar la menor energía posible, porque hay que cuidar el planeta. No olvidemos que a veces la palabra reciclaje encierra largos y costosos procesos de producción que en el fondo nada tienen de ecológicos; sin embargo la reutilización es mucho más honesta en ese sentido. También nos dedicamos a la rama de la restauración, concretamente de lámparas antiguas, porque aunque no todo el mundo está acostumbrado a verlo así, también se trata de una actividad que favorece la sostenibilidad, ¿para qué fabricar tantos objetos nuevos cuando muchos viejos sólo necesitan una revisión para seguir en funcionamiento?

What is the history of Dosdetres?In the beginning we participated in various design competitions, in which usually you obtain more experience than results. While we were at this, and without a formal workspace came the idea with other fellow students to find a place in which we could develop the activities we had in hand. We found an interesting place and started thinking about designing objects that we could make ourselves for later sale. One thing was very clear, we had little money, so we came up with the idea of reusing small objects, obsolete or broken down, and giving them a new life.

Tell us a little bit about the way you work. What inspires you?Like all interior designers we are inspired by great designs of past and present, but also the same way the fact of designing from reusing, and this is very important to us. The need to have a limited budget because we are starting out, coupled with the need to spend as less energy as possible, because we have to take care of the planet. We shouldn’t forget that sometimes the word recycling involves long and costly production processes that have little to do with the ecological but to reuse is much more honest in that regard. We are also in the restoration industry, specifically antique lamps, because although not everyone is accustomed to see it, it is also an activity that promotes sustainability. Why make so many new objects when many old ones only need a revision to keep functioning?

Do you have a cult designer? Where to start... the list goes on and on, but of course Mies and Le Corbusier are always in our thoughts, lol. As lovers of

Dos arquitectos de interiores, Matías Blanco-Cobaleda y Diego Fontecha, empezaron proyectando un mueble para un concurso de diseño a principios de 2009; en principio eran tres pero el tercero “tuvo que dejarlo y justo andábamos buscando un nombre para presentarnos como grupo, como éramos dos de los tres que empezamos, Dosdetres nos gustó y desde entonces lo hemos mantenido”, recuerdan Matías y Diego. Ahora se dedican a diseñar objetos a partir de la reutilización, a darle vida a objetos muertos.

Two interior designers, Matias Blanco-Cobaleda and Diego Fontecha began designing a piece of furniture for a design competition in early 2009, at the beginning there were three but the third one “had to leave and we were just looking for a name to introduce ourselves as a group, and because we were two out of three that started, we liked Dosdetres, and since then we have kept the name”, Matthias and Diego recall. Now they are dedicated to designing objects beginning with reuse, to give life to dead objects.

¿Tienen algún diseñador/es de culto? Por donde empezar..., la lista es interminable pero por supuesto Mies y Le Corbu siempre están en nuestros pensamientos, jajaja. Como amantes de las lámparas por supuesto, Joe Colombo, Jean-Louis Domecq (creador de las Jieldé), los diseños de la desaparecida marca de Madrid Fase, Philippe Starck y, por supuesto, siempre estamos mirando todo lo que se hace hoy en día en torno al ramo de la reutilización y el reciclaje y para lo cual Internet es un socio estupendo.

¿El objeto genera la pieza o tienen una idea preconcebida? Es decir ¿quién fue primero el huevo o la gallina?En realidad no hay siempre un orden establecido, a veces es el objeto en sí el que nos genera la idea y otras veces somos nosotros los que andamos buscando un objeto que nos permita llevar a cabo la idea que tenemos en la cabeza.

Does the object leads to the piece or do you have a preconceived idea? I mean which came first the chicken or the egg?The reality is that there isn’t always an order, sometimes the object itself is what leads to the idea and other times we are the ones who are looking for an object that allows us to carry out the idea that we have in our heads.

How do you search for the objects? Do you track them? Do they come to you?There is a little bit of everything, donations, “Grandma’s attic,” some we hunt for, others we find on the street, many Internet searches, and of course El Rastro in Madrid, and it also happens that a client proposes that we make something with an object that he or she has and appreciates.

Which has been the new use object most precious for you?Well, we made a lamp from an old phone and gooseneck arm,

¿Cómo realizan la búsqueda de objetos? ¿Los van rastreando? ¿Llegan a ustedes?Hay un poco de todo, donaciones, “desván de la abuela”, algunos que rastreamos, otros que los encuentras en la calle, mucha búsqueda por Internet, por supuesto El Rastro de Madrid, y también ocurre que algún cliente nos propone que le fabriquemos algo con un objeto que tiene y aprecia.¿Cuál ha sido el objeto de nuevo uso más preciado por ustedes?Pues hay una lámpara que realizamos a partir de un teléfono antiguo y un brazo de flexo, nosotros la bautizamos como “Flexófono” y es nuestro objeto más vendido ya que los hemos realizado con multitud de teléfonos diversos. Probablemente por todo esto el primer “Fléxófono” que hicimos sea nuestro objeto más preciado.

¿Cuál es ese objeto que tienen entre ceja y ceja y que aún no han podido materializar?Son incalculables.

¿Creen que el tema “crisis” hará que el recycling y, por ende, la adquisición de los productos de Dosdetres incremente?Como intentamos mantener unos precios competitivos y vender objetos de diseño para todo el mundo, nosotros notamos que desde que comenzamos hemos ido vendiendo siempre un poco más, lo que hace que tengamos que trabajar más, pero también que cada vez más gente te vaya conociendo.

5 productos que ustedes consideren hayan cambiado la manera de ver/entender el mobiliario a partir del recycling.Es difícil siempre juzgar algo así, pero al menos para nosotros hay algunos productos, o ideas, que han conseguido esto. El viejo concepto de los envases retornables, la restauración en sí, el ingenio que provoca la necesidad a la hora de desarrollar objetos, y ponemos como ejemplo el pueblo de Cuba, el sofá neumático de basurama (ejemplo fantástico de reutilización de algo prácticamente irreciclable como son los neumáticos) y por último aunque parezca muy típico tenemos que nombrar el disco de vinilo, ya que es una forma muy habitual de que las personas vean por primera vez el concepto de reutilización.

Tribe NYC is a group of 19 young artists aged 17 to 22 years, dancers, singers, designers, actors and poets with the aim of paying homage to the music and fashions of the late 80’s and early 90’s, which they referred to as “the best time to hit the world.” Although it was founded in 2009 in New York, NYC Tribe already has members in Canada, California and Florida.

The image that characterizes them is a medallion made of sealed plastic beads which they define as “speak no evil”, which symbolize see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil), so their collective ideology is closely tied to the African-American movement of respect and equality. “We want to avoid negativity. Preparación:- Prepara tus sándwiches favoritos con pan de molde y si quieres parecer más nerd, hazlos dobles.- Una vez que estén listos, utiliza un molde para cortar gallletas y dar forma al sandwich. A nosotros nos gustan más en forma de estrellas!- Decóralo con una espadita de plástico y un tomate cherry o una banderilla. Ñam!

- Panecillos estilo Mini Hot Dog.- Mini Hot Dogs.- Queso en fetas (opcional).

Preparación:Es demasiado obvio para explicarlo...

- Thin white bread.- Ham, cheese, lettuce, mayonaise…Fill them up however you like!

Preparation:-Prepare your favourite sandwiches with white bread. If you are the nerdy type, you can make them double height.-Once they´re ready, use a star shaped cookie cutter to cut them. Nice!-Decorate them with a flag or a plastic sword and a cherry.

- Mini Hot dog Bread- Mini Hot Dogs- Sliced Cheese (optional)

Preparation:Too obvious to explain…

-1 Cajita de gelatina sin sabor.-250 cm3 de vodka.-1 ltr de agua. Preparación: - Hacer la gelatina calentando 500cm3 de agua hasta hacerla hervir. - Verter el polvito de gelatina en un bol. - Agregar el agua y revolver hasta que se disuelva. - Mezclar el vodka con los 500 cm3 de agua fría restantes. - Dejar entibiar la gelatina caliente para que se evapore el vodka.- Agregar la mezcla de vodka a la gelatina y revolver. - Verter la mezcla en vasitos de plástico y guardar en el frigo durante 2-4 horas.

Si eres entusiasta, puedes preparar los vasitos mezclando gelatina de varios colores. Trippy!

- 6 oz. package of Jello(170 grams)- Approximately 3 cups of water (720 ml)- Approximately 1 cup of chilled alcohol (240 ml)

Mix the water and alcohol to make 2 cups. Use the following ratios to ensure that the shots will set:- Prepare the Jell-o using this proportion:- 13 ounces (6 1/2 US tbsp., 390 ml) of 30-50 (~20%) proof alcohol with 3 ounces (1 1/2 US tbsp., 90 ml) water.- Put the mixture in the refrigerator to chill, so that the alcohol doen´t evaporate.- Bring more than 1 cup of water to a boil. You’ll need exactly 1 cup of boiling water, so put a little more than that in the pot or kettle, since some will evaporate.- Measure out 1 cup of boiling water and mix it with the powdered Jello. Stir stir stir and Stir in the chilled water and alcohol mixture. Pour the mixture into the cups.- Place the shots on a tray in refrigerator (not the freezer). Chill until firm (approximately 2-4 hours). Refrigerate until served.

The Boat That Rocked –A.K.A. Radio pirata [Comedia-Drama-Música] 2009Se sitúa en 1966 para describir la situación en la que estaba la radio en ese entonces: No existían las concesiones de emisoras y era sólo la BBC quien podía emitir de manera oficial, con la posibilidad de escuchar sólo 45 minutos de música pop al día, así que surgieron las emisoras piratas que transmitían desde el Mar del Norte y que por supuesto contaban con un alto número de seguidores. Razones por las que ver esta peli: la música, The Who, The Kinks, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, y el elenco, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy y Kenneth Branagh, entre otros. El bowl de palomitas que sea grande cuando decidas ver esta peli porque dura 130 minutos, pero en realidad, ¿qué importa? ¡Larga vida al Rock n Roll!

Casi famosos [Drama-Comedia]2000Nueve años después de que Cameron Crowe llevara a la pantalla grande su interpretación del grunge con Singles, en la que participaron integrantes de Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam y Soundgarden, el director presentó Almost Famous, en la que muestra de forma casi autobiográfica otro fragmento de la industria de la música. Dum Dum GirlsHablar de las D.D.G. realmente es hablar de Dee Dee, la compositora y principal responsable de que el grupo se haya colocado a la cabeza de toda una generación de rockeras. Desde que su single Jail La La saliera hasta su debut I Will Be para Sub-Pop en 2010 deja muy claras sus intenciones: Saltar del circuito Indie a La Conquista del Mundo. Guitarras rítmicas, buenas secciones de percusión y una imagen impecable, lo tienen todo. Además de mucho glamour e, incluso algo de prensa rosa: Dee Dee está casada con Brandon Welchez de, los también recomendables, Crocodiles. No digas que no te avisamos.

Vivian GirlsDesde 2007 estas tres habitantes de Brooklyn, han facturado tres discos cada uno mejor que el anterior. Una mezcla de Indie Pop con Lo-fi que no deja indiferente. Canciones abrasivas, llenas de ruido y muy contagiosas, llenas de melodía y cabezas asintiendo. Tras un inicio bastante cercano a D.I.Y. han ido dulcificando su sonido, aunque sin perder un ápice de fuerza. Su último single I Heard You Say es una clara muestra. Flequillos ramoneros y vestidos conjuntados: Thumbs Up! (Los proyectos paralelos: La Sera y The Babies también son de Escucha Necesaria).
