RUBBER BAND BALLS
HISTORY
• The origins of the rubber band ball are not very clear, but anthropologists believe that the origin of this hobby can be found in the ancient Incan culture of early South America. Back then a small pebble was found and thin naturally elastic vines were wrapped around it until the ball reached a size appropriate for their game, ulemetsali. These vines were used until rubber was invented.
WORLD’S BIGGEST RUBBER BAND BALL
The current record holder is Steven Milton of Eugene, Oregon, who created a 4,600lb ball using over 175,000 rubber bands. It was recorded as the world's largest in November 2006 in Chicago. Milton broke the previous record set by John Bain in 1999, whose ball weighed 3,120lb.
