Data ProcessingDe-clouding Sea Surface Temperatures

SST is examined on a per-pixel basis to determine if cloud contamination ispresent. A series of 3 tests are performed and a mask value is assignedto each pixel denoting the results.

Test 1: SST fails time test if > 2degC cooler than previous 72-hours meanTest 2: SST fails climatology if > 5degC colder than climatologyTest 3: SST is sequentially run through time and climatology tests; neighboring

pixels within 3km will also fail if test is not passed

Mask Values (can be additive):0: Most rigorous, pixel passes all tests

1: Pixel failed the time test2: Pixel failed the climatology test4: Pixel failed combined testing

Suitable data is selected based on the desired mask value.
