Aeronauca 1 Wit and elegance proved eminent on SUC students as Mark Kevin Almodiente (Rizal Technological University) and Hannah Khayle Ildefonso Iglesia (Technological University of the Philippines) were hailed victors of this year’s Mr. and Ms. SCUAA-NCR Season 26th held at PhilSCA Covered Court, December 5, 2013. The event was graced by Pasay City Congresswoman Emi Calixto-Rubiano as she expressed her delight to see that the SCUAA- NCR affiliates continue to promote camaraderie and brotherhood among its members. She cited, “It is for this reason that year after year for the past 26 years, the SCUAA-NCR endeavored to organize this annual event. It is such a wonderful sight to see that all of you belong to just one big happy and healthy family.” The affair started with a parade of candidates in their Filipino Festival Attire, marching under elaborately decorated arches giving it a “Santacruzan” effect, followed by the Swimwear Competition where candidates exhibited their fit bodies and curves. Rizal Technological University (RTU) Blue Thunders reigned supreme in the Beach Volleyball tournament of the 26th Season of State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) held at the University of the East – Caloocan Beach Volleyball Court last November 27 – 29, 2013. Reaping a staggering record of 6-0 (Men) and 5-0 (Women), RTU Blue Thunders bested the tourney against all

odds while the EARIST Red Fox ranked 2nd best as they lost 1 turn against RTU both in men and women division.

In the Men’s division, PhilSCA Iron Eagle clinched the 3rd place after a triple-tie with MPC Gears and PNU Torchbearers was broken by Mr. Victor C. Abalos, Beach Volleyball Official through a quotient sequence making the Gears and the Torchbearers placed 4th and 5th place respectively. The PUP Mighty Maroons landed on the 6th having won over TUP Gray Hawks who fell on the last place. In the Women’s division, TUP Gray Hawks grabbed the 3rd place with 3-0 record after their men losses on the same title. Other winners of the Women’s division were PhilSCA Iron Eagle (2-3), PNU Torchbearers (1-4) and PUP who landed on the last place. The MPC Gears didn’t played in the women’s division.

Aga (MPC); Mr. and Ms. Photogenic: Mark William Yap (TUP) and Jean Rafaela Bejo (PhilSCA);

Best in Terno and Barong: Mark William Yap (TUP) and Allhia Charmaine S. Estores (PNU); Best in Festival Attire: Mark Kevin Almodiente (RTU) and Sebastian Henna Santos (RTU); and Best in Swim wear: Mark Kevin Almodiente (RTU) and Hannah Khayle Ildefonso Iglesia (TUP). For the major awards, here are the candidates who snatched the top spots: 3rd runners up: Jhon Roy V. Dela Paz (MPC) and Jean Rafaela S. Bejo (PhilSCA); 2nd runners up: Mark William Yap (TUP) and Sebastian Henna Santos (RTU); 1st runners up: Alexander N. Pastrana (PhilSCA) and Allhia Charmaine Estores (PNU); and Mr. & Ms. SCUAA-NCR: Mark Kevin Almodiente (RTU) and Hannah Khayle Ildefonso Iglesia (TUP).

Torre. A ceremonial move by PUP President Dr. Emmanuel De Guzman, RTU President Dr. Jesus Torres and PhilSCA’s Dr. Roderick Santiago against GM Torre, GM Jayson Gonzales, another Filipino Chess Grandmaster and the Exec. Director of NCFP and Hon. Prospero Pichay, Jr., Chairman/President of NCFP, marked the culmination of the program.

PICCIO GARDEN, VILLAMOR, PASAY CITY—RTU Blue Thunders ruled the ring as they secured 8 Gold medals in the SCUAA-NCR Season 26th Boxing competition making them the title-holder besting PUP and PhilSCA held last November 29, 2013 Bout numbers 2, 4, 8, and 10 was easily won by Blue thunder’s Alvin Defeo, Porferio Aus Jr., Jovan Krist Solmoro and Romar Brina defeating Nixon Paulino, Jhandy Zeus Chavez, Antonio Dacules Jr., and Paolo James Cardinal. The climax of the competition was in 6th bout when Gerard Ray Conche from Philsca Iron Eagles and Zairon Chavez from Blue thunders wowed the audience with their breathtaking boxing performance. But in the end Chavez was hailed as the victor as judges ruled a split decision to his favor. “Mga baguhan pa kasi sila” uttered by coach Arlo Chavez of PhilSCA Iron Eagle. Despite of not having gold medals, PhilSCA Iron Eagle boxing team were still thankful after bagging 7 silvers and 1 bronze that made them 2nd place while the PUP Mighty Maroons grabbed 7 bronze and 1 silver. The said boxing event was also highlighted by the appearance of the Philippine Boxing team that will compete for the Southeast Asian Games (SEA) at bouts 1,3,5,7 and 9.
