    Presidency Message

    There is no better time than now, this very Christmas season, forall of us to rededicate ourselves to the principles taught by JesusChrist.

    Because He came to earth, we have a perfect example to follow.As we strive to become more like Him, we will have joy andhappiness in our lives and peace each day of the year. It is Hisexample which, if followed, stirs within us more kindness and love,more respect and concern for others.

    Because He came, there is meaning to our mortal existence.Because He came, we know how to reach out to those in trouble

    or distress, wherever they may be.Because He came, death has lost its sting, the grave its victory.

    We will live again because He came.Because He came and paid for our sins, we have the opportunity

    to gain eternal life.Because He came, we are gathered tonight to worship Him, in

    bonds of brotherhood and love.May His precious Spirit be with us, and may He ever be the

    center of our celebrations and indeed of our very lives.~President Thomas S. Monson(First Presidency Christmas Devotional, 2011)

    How silently, how silently,The wondrous gift is given!

    So God imparts to human heartsThe blessings of his heaven.No ear may hear his coming;

    But in this world of sin,Where meek souls will receive him, still

    The dear Christ enters in.

    This Months message: The Divine Mission of JesusChrist: The Only Begotten Son (Ensign, Dec., 2013)

    Our Savior, Jesus Christ, is called the Only Begotten Sonbecause He is the only person on earth to be born of amortal mother and an immortal Father. He inheriteddivine powers from God, His Father. From His mother,Mary, He inherited mortality and was subject to hunger,thirst, fatigue, pain, and death. Because Jesus Christ isthe Only Begotten of the Father, He was able to lay downHis life and take it up again. The scriptures teach thatthrough the atonement of Christ, we obtaina resurrection (Jacob 4:11). We also learn that all mightbe raised in immortality unto eternal life if we would

    believe (D&C 29:43). As we come to understand morefully what it means for Jesus to be the Only Begotten Sonof the Father, our faith in Christ will increase. ElderD. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the TwelveApostles said, Faith in Jesus Christ is the conviction andassurance of (1) His status as the Only Begotten Son ofGod, (2) His infinite Atonement, and (3) His literalResurrection. Modern prophets have testified: [JesusChrist] was ! the Only Begotten Son in the flesh, theRedeemer of the world.
