FOR THE LEADER IN YOUby Julia Bryant

Brave leaders disrupt industries through innovation,

stand firm in the face of opposition, and embrace risk.

Join a community inspired by those who demonstrate

bravery and leave equipped to take on your next leadership

challenge. Leadercast Rockwall takes place Friday, May 8

at Rockwall High School Performing Arts Center. This is

an opportunity to attend a powerful conference without

leaving town. Consider not only you or your business

colleagues attendance, but even the importance of sending

your high school or college student. Our hope for them

is to be better leaders in our communities, businesses,

organizations and homes. This leadership experience

is focused on building leaders worth following and isn’t

that what we want? Go to http://rockwallchamber.org/

leadercast-rockwall-2015/ and click on GET TICKETS.

Speaking of Brave Leaders, we are in the process of

interviewing potential candidates for our Board of

Directors. We need 5 new Board Members who will serve

a 3 year term, and one Board Member who will serve a 2

year term. All newly elected board members shall officially

take office as Directors when seated at the regular Board

Meeting in May and shall be participating as of that

meeting. Board Meetings occur the second (2nd) Monday

of every month at 12:00 noon in The Mellody Room at City

Hall. The government and policy-making responsibilities

of the Chamber shall be vested in the Board of Directors,

which shall control its property, be responsible for its

finances, and direct its affairs.

If you have an interest in being on our Board, or would like

to nominate someone, please contact the Chamber office.

Royse City Rotary Flag

Program makes an excellent

gift (for yourself or a

neighbor, family member,

teacher, boss, etc.!) The

American Flag will be

proudly displayed in front

of your home on seven (7)

selected flag holidays. For

an annual subscription

price of only $35.00, they

will place a 3-foot x 5-foot American Flag on a 10-foot pole

approximately 18 inches from the curb near your front walk.

A plastic pipe installed in the ground just below the surface

will hold the flag in place and will be low enough that it

will not interfere with regular lawn maintenance. They will

make every effort to place flags according to standard flag

etiquette. Seeing these flags lined up along the streets in

Royse City is truly an impressive site so we encourage you

to talk to your neighbors and get everyone involved! Due to

geographic limits, subscribers must live within Royse City

“City Limits.” Contact Bill or Mary Ellis at 972-636-2566.

My Excellent Valentine’s Date:

Short drive over to Greenville to The Texan Theatre.

Pull up out front and park. For free. Have someone hold

the door for us and check our coats. For free. Hostess give

us our tickets and gestures us toward the hors d’oeuvres &

open bar (or coffee bar if we choose). For free. We then step

into the limelight where we have our photo taken. For free.

As we walk into the theatre, fresh drink in hand, all the

ladies are given a rose. For free. Escorted inside the

exquisite venue, we are seated and served a chef prepared

meal which includes dessert and coffee – all while enjoying

a first class professional concert within a few yards of us.

After the show we are handed the photograph that we

took before entering the show to take home with us as a

souvenir. For free. The Historic Texan Theatre dates back

to the late 1800’s as the King opera House. This is a fabulous

entertainment facility that can host movie screenings,

theater productions, live music and private functions.

The coffee shop is open daily for lunch. It is truly a must

see. Visit their website at www.texantheatregreenville.com

to see the upcoming shows and give them a call at

903-259-6360 to see about getting a tour or booking

for your own event.

MEET YOUR TEACHERmorgan power

Davis Elementary 4th Grade Teacher

Morgan Power began her

teaching career in 2007 at Davis

Elementary, teaching third, then

fourth grade. Morgan graduated

Magna Cum Laude from Texas

A&M University at Commerce

and serves on the District

Curriculum Advisory Team,

Instructional Leadership Team and as 4th Grade

Team Leader.

Davis Elementary’s 2014 Campus Teacher of the

Year expects her students to be the best version

of themselves. Ownership and independence are

imperative so students can become problem solvers.

Life is not black and white. There is no answer key, so

we must all think for ourselves to solve our problems.

We must take ownership. We must self-reflect and

we must persevere.

Morgan shares, “I strive to emphasize the importance of

creativity and critical thinking in my classroom. Posing

open-ended critical thinking questions to my class to

encourage a response that represent their own original,

personal ideas. We need to teach our children to weigh

and consider, to critique and recommend, to invent

and produce.”

Can you say beautiful? Mary is a stunning girl. She is current
