Dear Friends and Family in Christ, September 2013

There are times when I ask myself, how has this ministry survived in a place like Haiti for almost 40 years? What causes the work to continue despite the daily hardships and opposition? The only answer I can come up with is because of a faithful God, and committed people who are willing to put their faith in Him.

A few weeks ago, we had the privilege of celebrating 25 years of God’s faithfulness at SALEM Bible Institute. When my father, Lucien Saul, founded the Bible school in 1988, his goal was to reach out to the whole country of Haiti by training lay preachers to effectively lead their congregations and win more souls to Christ. By the grace of God, he has now begun to see that dream realized. It was “Thanksgiving” in summertime!

This year, we had the pleasure of hosting Pastor Eddie Goodall and his dear wife. It is hard to explain how excited we were to have our first woman ever come visit during SALEM! For one week, in our morning and evening chapel services, Pastor Goodall challenged our students with the word of God. And during an interactive Q&A time, his wife was also able to share about life in the ministry from the perspective of a pastor’s wife, which was enjoyed by all.

The special graduation ceremony for our 41 seniors was very emotional as we reflected on the past years, and the way that God can use anyone who is willing, to accomplish great things for His glory. Through the testimonies of the students, we were able to hear of the many blessings that the ministry of SALEM has brought to countless churches all over Haiti. One of the highlights of that night was when we honored two of our most faithful and committed staff members. They were not among the board members, not among the teaching staff, but two of our kitchen workers who have given themselves gladly, joyfully every year since the beginning of SALEM’s existence. It was a privilege to recognize the sacrifices that they have made to make SALEM a success.

! One great answer to prayer this year was that we were able to provide an excellent quality study Bible for every graduate to take home. The Lord miraculously used a woman that my parents met on their last trip to the States, to completely cover all the expenses for those Bibles, in honor of her late husband. leaving families and ministries behind, all for the furtherance of the gospel. We would like to ask you to pray for a few of our students who had to go home for family emergencies. One student received the heartbreaking news that his little boy passed away while he was at SALEM. Surely the challenges are great, but we can rest and rely on our unfailing God.

We are thankful for committed friends who are willing to make sacrifices for this ministry. This year, we have been blessed with many financial gifts, from churches and individuals here and abroad. However, we trust that the Lord will provide the $5,000 that is still needed to cover the costs of this year’s session.

HOW CAN YOU PRAY FOR OUR MINISTRY IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS? Now that SALEM is over, one of our next big events will be youth retreat, which is held during carnival season. What is Haitian Carnival? In our opinion, it is an opportunity to distract the country from their problems, by way of drunkenness and partying. Each year, we see the effects of this festival in the riots, crimes, and teenage pregnancies. Carnival used to take place only in the capital of Haiti, Port-Au-Prince. However, with this new government, they are now reaching out to the more remote parts of the country, including our area. In fact, next year’s carnival will be held just seven miles away from us, in the nearby town of Gonaives. The first time in the history of our country that it will be there.

Usually, for youth retreat, we have several groups from our mission churches in Haiti come and join us on our campus. This year, however, since carnival will be so close to us, we are planning to invite young people from the nearby churches (so as to give them a better option instead of the carnival activities going on).

Please pray with us that the Lord will provide the funds and resources needed for this special youth retreat to be accomplished.

BETHESDA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Lord willing, school will be back in session before the end of the year. Exactly when, we cannot say. We do not have the luxury of a stable government that announces the dates of the education calendar each year. It usually depends on the political climate, the economic situation of the country, and so on. Hopefully we will get the go ahead to welcome our students back on campus within the next few months.

As always, we truly covet your prayers for the leaders of our nation, and for wisdom and safety as we continue to serve God in the midst of all this. We cannot thank you enough for standing by us, praying with us, and giving to our ministry.

Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved (Philippians 4:1).--  His servant, Royden SaulMake someone homesick for Jesus today2 Timothy 2:2Contributions to our ministry should be made payable to IPM and sent to IPM, Inc., PO Box 337 Hanover, PA 17331. Be sure to include a

note designating “Royden Support” or any other special designation that you may have for us. Thank you.

God’s work is being firmly established there with a vibrant fundamental Baptist church as well as an elementary school. Thousands of children, and many parents, have trusted Christ as Savior. God has been gracious and blessed in wonderful ways as His Word has been faithfully taught and

preached. The Haitian government depends on many

missionaries to educate the children. Yet, the financial responsibility, such as paying the teachers,

staff, and feeding the children each day, falls on the Sauls.

Royden also assists and encourages the many child evangelists who are

trained at SALEM Bible Institute. They go throughout Haiti to evangelize the children

as well as to train others to do the same. This is a vital ministry for the future generation

in Haiti. Royden also wants to start a camping ministry among the youth. Christian

camps can have a tremendous effect on the lives of young people. Please pray with

him as he develops this important ministry. Royden and Danielle are sure of

their call to Haiti. Even though he was attacked in 2005, and they experienced the horrific earthquake in January 2010, they will not abandon their commitment to the Lord in spite of the political, social, and physical turmoil. Daily, their lives are on the line. Your prayers, their faith in God, and their love for their people will help keep them faithful to their call. Please pray for them, their ministry, safety, and financial needs.

Many men would not take their family to live in a place like Bassin. But Royden’s

call is clear to serve in that small village with no electricity or running water, or stores. Bassin has been a stronghold of Satan,

with voodoo being practiced by the majority of the people. The voodoo drums are often

heard at night.
