Objectives

CHARITY EVENTS AT ROYAL WINDSOR RACECOURSE

Overall strategy – to develop non racing aspects of our business, by increasing the number of charitable events hosted at Royal Windsor Racecourse, which increases brand awareness amongst new customers

• To diversify our Conference & Events business mix• To provide a venue for charities to host large scale fundraising events• To utilize the racecourse during weekends• To strengthen our brand awareness as a fun venue through social media & media coverage of these events• To benefit from the increased and varied number of charity runs currently taking place

Delivery

TEAM ENGAGEMENT - Members of the Royal Windsor team have participated in several of these events to experience this from a visitor’s perspective and raise money for worthy charities.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT - Research and targeting of companies who organises these events to increase this business.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT - Work closely with the Royal Borough council, environmental agency & traffic management agency to ensure the smooth running of these events.

CHARITY ENGAGEMENT - Certain charities are permitted to do bucket collections on racedays to increase fundraising opportunities. Events are promoted on the Royal Windsor website & social media channels to increase awareness.

CHALLENGES - Racing grounds team are heavily involved to ensure the venue meets each charity’s operational & safety requirements while turning the racecourse round to ensure it is raceday ready within 24 hours.

Royal Windsor Racecourse has hosted Colourvibe Run, Ride IT, Fun Run Events, Ride the Night, Race for Life, Pretty Muddy, Gun Ho, Colour Obstacle Run& Palace to Palace.

Results

The number of charity events have increased by 166% in 2 years.

• CHARITABLE BENEFITS - Charities benefitting included Clic Sargent, Cancer Research UK, Princes Trust, Women v Cancer, Children In Need, Cystic Fibrosis Trust, The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, Downs Syndrome Assoc, Nightline Assoc and many more.

• RACECOURSE BENEFITS - 55,000 additional visitors visit the racecourse.

• CELEBRITY ENDORSMENT - Celebrities including Mark Cavendish, Rachel Riley and Suzie Dent have promoted their chosen charities from the racecourse leading to additional media coverage. Social Media coverage to a combined audience of 3.7m promoting Royal WindsorRacecourse
