Round Two Impromptu Speech Topics

During the second round, each contestant will draw a number and

deliver an impromptu speech on one of the following topics below.

1.中国美食以“色、香、味俱全”而闻名于天下。请介绍“我最喜欢的中国菜”。

Chinese food features bright colors, fragrant aromas and delicious taste. Please speak on the topic of “my

favorite Chinese cuisine”.

2.孔子曰：“三人行，必有我师焉。”这句话告诉我们要谦虚，并向别人学习。请你结合自己的

生活，谈谈对这句话的理解。

Confucius says: Even when walking in a party of no more than three I can always be certain of learning

from those I am with. This saying tells us always to be humble and learn from others. Please reflect on

and share your own experience of learning from others.

3.中国有句谚语“磨刀不误砍柴功”是说在做事之前要做好充分的准备，不要急于开始。请你结

合自己的生活，谈谈对这句话的理解。

There is a Chinese proverb: Sharpening your axe does not delay the work of chopping firewood. It

suggests more haste, less speed. Please reflect on and share your own experience related to this Chinese

proverb.

 

4. 中国有很多美丽的传统艺术，比如书法、国画、篆刻，等等 。请选择一种你知道的中国艺术并

介绍给大家。

There are many beautiful traditional art of China, such as calligraphy, painting and seal. Please introduce

one format of Chinese art that you like and/or familiar with.

 

5.“一寸光阴一寸金，寸金难买寸光阴”这句话告诉我们要珍惜时间。请你根据自己的理解来谈

谈我们为什么要珍惜时间？如何珍惜时间？

Time is money. The Chinese say goes “One-inch time is worthy of one-inch gold, but one cannot buy time

with gold.” Please reflect on and share your own experience on the why and how to cherish time.  

6.中国古代流传下来了许多优美的诗歌。请你说出你自己最喜欢的一句古诗，并且谈谈你为什么

喜欢？

The Chinese history of literature is blessed with many beautifully and wisely written poems. Please share

one of your favorite poems, and tell us why it is your favorite.

 

7. “一年之计在于春，一日之计在于晨”是说一年的收获要在于春天播种下去的种子，一天的学

习成果就在于早晨的努力晨读。你怎么看？请你根据这句话谈谈自己的日常学习安排。

“Make your whole year’s plans in spring, and your day’s plan early in the morning”. This proverb tells us

to make plans at the beginning of the day/year. How do you make plans for your study? Please reflect on

and share your own experience related to this Chinese proverb.

 

8.中国古代四大名著之一《西游记》当中有许多重要的角色，包括：唐僧、孙悟空、猪八戒和沙

和尚。请你根据你对《西游记》的了解讲一讲你最喜欢《西游记》中的哪一个角色？如果你没有

读过《西游记》，请你谈谈你最喜欢的中国小说，及你为什么喜欢它。

“Journey to The West” is one of the most famous Chinese novels. There are four main characters: Tang

Monk, Monkey King, Pigsy and Sandy Monk. Tell us about your favorite character and why you like him

the most. If you haven’t read “Journey to The West” in the past, tell us about your favorite Chinese novel

and explain why you like it.

 

9.“丝绸之路”是古代中国对外文化交流的重要通道。通过“丝绸之路”，中国的四大发明（火

药、印刷术、造纸术和指南针）传到了其他国家。谈谈你对今天中国和美国语言／文化交流的看

法。我们如何从中受益？

“The Silk Road” is an important channel for intercultural exchange activities in ancient China. Through

the Silk Road, the four great inventions of China (gunpowder, printing, papermaking and the compass)

were introduced to the world. Talk about your views on nowadays Sino-US language and cultural

communications. What do we benefit from it?

 

10.“不忘初心，方得始终” 。只有记住自己最初的动力，才能有始有终。请问你开始学习中文最

初的动力是什么？在你的中文学习中，这个动力对你有什么样的影响？

“Keeping to your original aspirations leads you to success.” This reminds us to remember our motivations

when doing a job. Only in this way, you can achieve your goals. What are your original motivations to

learn Chinese? What kind of impact do your motivations have on your Chinese study?
