Den gamle bibliotekssal i Rundetaarn er et af Køben-havns smukkeste udstillingsrum, og alverdens kunst-nere, kunsthåndværkere, videnskabsmænd og hobby-folk har udstillet her i mere end 20 år.De fleste udstillinger bliver realiseret af folk udefra, og tårnet giver både plads til den etablerede kunst-verden og de mere skæve projekter med udstillere, som har vidt forskellige baggrunde.

Bibliotekssalen samlede oprindeligt alle univesi-tetets bøger under et tag, men lukkede på grund af pladsmangel i 1861. Det gamle bibliotek blev siden brugt som lager og malersal, indtil det blev sat i stand og (gen)åbnet for offentligheden i 1987.

The old Library of the Round Tower is one of the most beautiful exhibition rooms in Copenhagen. Throughout the past 20 years, varying artists, handi-craftsmen, scientists and hobby enthusiasts from all over the world have exhibited their works here.Most of the exhibitions are often external initiatives, with the tower opening up to the established world of art as well as to alternative projects involving exhibitors with many different backgrounds.The Library was once the home of the entire Univer-sity book collection, but by 1861, the book collection had grown so big that it was moved to new premises. The old Library was later used as a studio and a de-pot for the Zoological Museum.The Library was restored in 1987 and reopened for the public.

FAQ Q: Hvor højt er Rundetaarn?

A: Rundetaarn er 34,8 m fra gade til udsigtsplat-

form. Observatoriet på platformen er 7 m.

Q: Hvem byggede Rundetaarn?

A: Rundetaarn blev bygget af Chr. 4 og blev taget i

brug i 1642.

Q: Er det rigtigt, at Chr. 4 red til toppen af

Rundetaarn?

A: Vi ved det ikke. Men vi kan med sikkerhed sige,

at den russiske zar Peter den Store red op i 1716.

Q: Hvor mange runder skal man gå i Sneglegangen

for at komme op til toppen?

A: Sneglegangen snor sig syv en halv gang, næsten

200 meter, rundt om tårnets kerne. Det sidste

stykke mod toppen skal bestiges via trapper.

FAQQ: How tall is the Round Tower?

A: The tower is 34,8 m from the ground to the plat-

form. The Observatory on the platform is 7 m.

Q: Who built the Round Tower?

A: The Round Tower was built by Christian IV between

1637 and 1642.

Q: Is it true that Christian IV was horse back riding to

the top of the tower?

A: We don´t know. The only thing we can say for sure

is that the Russian Czar Peter the Great took the

trip to the top on horseback.

Q: How many rounds does one have to make climbing

the Spiral Walk.

A: The Spiral Ramp leading to the top winds 7,5

turns, nearly 200 meters, round the hollow core of

the tower.
