ABOUT LAST NIGHT... The Omaha Storm Chasers popped the Round Rock Express by a final score of 9-2 in Monday night's series opener at Dell Diamond. The visitors opened the scoring in the first inning as CF Brett Phillips worked a leadoff walk before a Jorge Bonifacio single. The duo attempted a double steal that resulted in Bonifacio getting caught in a rundown while Phillips raced home. In the third, Phillips and SS Erick Mejia teamed up for a pair of walks that both came around to score on an ensuing Ryan O'Hearn double. An inning later, 2B Jecksson Flores jumped aboard via a fielding error before RF Chase d'Arnaud walked. A groundout later scored Flores prior to a Mejia RBI single. Round Rock's first run came in the fourth thanks to a pair of singles by DH Josh Rojas and LF Taylor Jones. O'Hearn and E-Train 3B Jack Mayfield traded solo home runs in the next two innings to push the gap to 6-2. Back-to-back RBI singles by Flores and d'Arnaud bumped the Omaha lead to 8-2 in the seventh before Bonifacio capped off the scoring with a solo home run in the eighth. Round Rock starter LHP Framber Valdez suffered the loss after allowing five runs on three hits and five walks in 3.2 innings. On the winning side, Omaha LHP Jake Kalish shined in 5.0 innings of relief, allowing just two runs on six hits. EMANUEL REJOINS THE ROTATION Round Rock LHP Kent Emanuel is set to rejoin the Express starting rotation this evening against Omaha. The lefty has made just one previous start, holding the Reno Aces to a run on four hits in 4.1 innings of work back on June 13. Emanuel has proven to be a strong long reliever for the Express this season, compiling a 1.78 ERA (5 ER/25.1 IP) in five outings of 4.0 or more innings pitched. Comparatively, in 17 appearances of less than 4.0 innings pitched, Emanuel owns a 6.75 ERA (28 ER/37.1 IP). BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK JACKS FOR JACK Express INF Jack Mayfield's sixth-inning home run in last night's defeat marked the slugger's third straight game with a home run, a feat he has accomplished just one other time in his seven-year professional career (July 19-21, 2017 with Double-A Corpus Christi). A homer in tonight's game will match Mayfield with fellow Express INF Josh Rojas, who compiled a streak of four straight games with a home run from June 20-24. No Express player has ever homered in five straight contests. BOUNCING BACK The Round Rock Express have compiled a 29-11 record in games immediately following a loss. Additionally, when the E-Train loses by five or more runs, the team is 11-3 in their next contest, winning such games by an average margin of victory of 5.3 runs per game. Last night's seven-run defeat, paired with a 10-5 loss to the Memphis Redbirds on July 18, marked the first time this season the Express dropped back-to-back home games by five runs or more. SNEED GETS ANOTHER SHOT The Houston Astros announced prior to last night's game that Round Rock Express RHP Cy Sneed has been recalled by the club. The righty rejoined the Astros for the second time this season after posting no record with a 4.09 ERA (5 ER/11.0 IP), 11 strikeouts and five walks in his first career time in the big leagues during a stint with the club from June 27-July 15. RECENT TRANSACTIONS Round Rock RHP Forrest Whitley was activated from the team's disabled list and transferred to the Class A-Advanced Fayetteville Woodpeckers this afternoon. The Astros top prospect has been sidelined with shoulder fatigue since May 29 after going 0-3 with a 12.21 ERA (33 ER/24.1 IP) in eight games, including five starts, with the Express to open the season. EXPRESS MANAGER MICKEY STOREYMickey Storey joins the Express from the Class-A Quad Cities River Bandits, where he began his managerial career in 2018. The 32-year-old skipper led the River Bandits to an 81-59 record in 2018, the second-best mark in the Midwest League and the club’s highest win total since 2015. Prior to his time in Quad Cities, Storey served as the Development Coach at Class-A Advanced Buies Creek in 2017. The former right-handed pitcher had a nine-year professional playing career that included one season with the Astros in 2012 in which he posted a 3.86 ERA in 26 appearances with the Major League club.

Storey was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he attended nearby Deerfield Beach High School before moving on to Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. He was drafted twice in his career, first by the Minnesota Twins in the 22nd round of the 2007 MLB Draft and again by the Oakland Athletics in the 31st round of the 2008 MLB Draft. During his nine-year professional career, Storey pitched at every level of affiliated baseball, including stints with Sacramento and Oklahoma City in the Pacific Coast League. He also posted winter ball stints in the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Venezuela. He finished his playing career in 2016 following two seasons with the Somerset Patriots of the independent Atlantic League. In total, the righty amassed a career 3.52 ERA in 385 games.
