Advising Applicants: Essays Tips

Questions to ask yourself when reading the essays:

o Does the essay reflect what the applicant was discussing in their interview?

o Is the applicant directly stating why they are the best candidate for the program in which they are applying?

o Does the applicant put effort in writing the essay?

o Is the applicant illustrating their leadership skills in their writing?

o Is the applicant missing valuable information in their essays?

Coaching Applicants: Resume

Questions to ask yourself when reviewing the resume:

o Does the resume highlight duties and accomplishments in their professional and volunteer roles?

o Does the resume reflect what the applicant was discussing in their essays and interview?

o Does the applicant include the number of hours per week worked for each position in their professional experience?

o Does the applicant have enough professional work experience to qualify for the fellowship?
