RECENT SPEAKERSMike Adams, City of Rancho Mirage Planning CommissionAugust 13Thank you to Mike for sharing future and ongoing projects taking place in Rancho Mirage. With a new high end hotel approved, as well as several improvements to neighborhoods, residents can rest assured that Rancho Mirage is in capable hands.

MeetLarryHallock

I was raised in Michigan with a Midwestern social upbringing with morals, hard work, ethic city life & farming. I have been married to my wife, Kathi, for 42 years and have two children.

What do most people not know about you?I sang soprano in a prestigious choir, selected to attend The Royal School of Music and sang in both the West-minster Abbey and Canterbury Cathedral. Between the ages of 10-12, I took the city bus in Detroit to attend practice 3 times a week.

What is your proudest moment? While attending Michigan State University I saved a life by being aware of my surroundings, getting involved and taking action.

If you could share any life advice with a high school student, what would it be?

Life is not easy, nobody owes you anything, you get out of life what you put in. Do the best you can and never give up.

Ronald McDonald House CharitiesThe Ronald McDonald House is a place where families find healthy meals and comfy beds instead of vending machine snacks and waiting room chairs. More importantly, they find emotional support from others who understand the anxiety, fear and stress of having a hospitalized child.

The Loma Linda House has broken ground for the expansion from 21 rooms to 54 to support more families in their time of need. The project will also provide renovation & expansion of the current facility, including a remodel of the kitchen & dining facilities to accommodate house guests. For more information or a tour, please contact Mike Kovack at 909-558-8338.

Thank you Mike for your excellent presentation on the facility and its upcoming expansion. It is the only one in the Riverside/San Bernardino County area. Loma Linda Medical Center has the only Level 4 Pediatric Trauma Unit, which explains why the House was located there 20 years ago.

Last year the House served 1,400 families but had to turn down an additional 745 requests for lack of space. The average stay per family is 7-10 days yet some have been accommodated for as much as 18 months. The expansion will add 33 new rooms and other facilities. The only charge is a request for $10 per family per night, however no family is ever turned away for an inability to pay.
