THE PRESIDENTIAL CROSS CHAT

XRAY STEVE

How about “Cross Chat”???

We are all talking to each other and hopefully listening. I am in the process of

completing an advanced diving course which involves planning and carrying out

long dives under fairly adverse conditions but at all times working with a dive

buddy. We still need to be able to communicate under water particularly as the

problems that we may encounter can be “life threatening’” so we use a system of

hand signals but guess what – you still need to be aware that your buddy is

“talking” to you. I am learning fast that I have to pay attention and respond in a

timely manner.

Our guest speaker last Tuesday – Patti Stafford – spoke about “Inner Wheel” and

described how that organisation, as a part of Rotary International, is filling a role

for those in the community who may be indirectly involved in Rotary but missing

out on the involvement or fellowship. It would be an interesting exercise to see if

there is a need for an Inner Circle club in our area but if that proved problematic

we may be able to refer prospective members to the Inner Circle club at Bundoora.

If you have a spouse, aunty, niece or close female relative that you think may

benefit from the fellowship of Inner Circle let me know and we will pass on their

details. It was great to hear about another facet of the Rotary organisation and be

reminded that from Rotaract to Probus we have just about covered all needs for

service or fellowship.

A reminder about the Rotary Leadership Institute – the next course is scheduled to

commence on 26th

August 2012. This will be the first part of a 3 part training

program and although it is intended to give club leaders a greater understanding

of leadership knowledge and the tools to work with it is a universal program that

would assist anyone in any sort of leadership role. If any of our club members

(prospective leaders!!!) would like to know more or take part in this course come

and see me. Applications for this part of the program close on 15th

August

Anyone interested in the Australian Rotary Health 2012 Charity Concert?

Australian Doctors Orchestra – Melbourne Town Hall – 2:00pm Sunday 16th

September

Anyone interested in the Rotary International Convention – Lisbon 2013? I suspect

that we may have one or two members there and if you want to go district has a

block booking for accommodation. 23rd

– 26th

June 2013 plus lots of pre and post-

convention tours.

Chairman: for the evening - Geoff Swan Sergeant: John Egan

Geoff introduced our guest speaker. Patty Stafford has been a member of inner wheel for 18 Years. Inner wheel

started in Manchester, England in 1924 . There are 100,000 members and 3789 clubs. Members attend meeting

worldwide. Each country has a national conference and an international convention every 3 years. IW has a regular

monthly meeting with no attendance requirements. IW has a common aim of service to the community. IW Australia

first formed in 1931. Activities include emergency kits, knitting stuff and raising Money for needy causes. Also

support for widowed members. National project is Cord Blood Research into 72 blood disorders and per things such

as spinal cord injury. Fundraising to date is $1675272.

Membership criteria is to partners of Rotarians, rotaracters and extended female relatives of these groups or others

voted in by a majority of members in a club.

Benefits to Rotary clubs are that IW projects can compliment Rotary projects by bringing in different people to help

with running projects. Diamond creek could sponsor a new club or provide some names of ladies who might be

interested in joining IW. Closest club to us is Bundoora and they meet 2nd Thursday of the month.
