THE PRESIDENTIAL CROSS CHAT XRAY STEVE

Last Sunday was the Rotary

Club of Diamond Creek’s

children’s Christmas party held

at the Eltham Lower Park on a

windy but lovely sunny

afternoon. It was fantastic to

see so many of our members

there with their children and

grandchildren – a truly multi-

generational experience.

The BBQ was manned by a

number of willing chefs and the

Rotary tent provided a

comforting wind break so that a

great afternoon was had by all.

Of course the highlight of the

afternoon was the arrival of

Santa – I wouldn’t say that we

are an affluent club but Santa’s

“sleigh” was a BMW cabriolet

with one very willing “reindeer”

driver – and the look of pleasure

on the children’s faces was worth

all the effort. A very jolly Santa,

ably assisted by a very cute elf,

soon had all the children

laughing and ripping open their

presents. And it goes without

saying that the children loved

their Christmas stockings. All

the effort made it a great day

and so a special thankyou to

Santa and his helpers, and of

course Uncle Arthur for organising

it all.

The meeting Tonight is at Nandos

restaurant in Diamond Creek

where the much anticipated 5 cent

challenge will be finalised. I know

that there has been much

speculation on who had the most 5

cent pieces and who “guesstimated”

the correct amount but nothing

has been leaked by the officials.

You will have to be there to find

out!

Next Sunday the combined

churches of Diamond Creek will be

hosting the Carrols by Candlelight

service in Diamond Creek and the

Rotary Club of Diamond Creek has

been asked to provide the BBQ for

the evening.

We need volunteers.

Come along, cook a few snags and

listen to some stirring traditional

Christmas Carrols. If you want to

see what Rotary in the community

is all about then you won’t get a

better chance than this.

And speaking of Rotary in the

community – tonight is the Town

Fair wrap up meeting. Come along

and find out what a terrific job

Rod Mackenzie and his team did.

This is what it’s all about!!!!

LETTER FROM SANTA…

Dear Diamond Creek Rotary Members

Today I had a pleasant visit with

some of your children and grandchildren

at Eltham Lower Park. They have been

such good children this year, though I had a

few doubts about some of the oldies who were

there!

Whilst the joy and celebrations of Christmas were taking place at the park, I

couldn’t help but reflect upon those who are less fortunate and the role that Rotary

takes to fill this void.

As recently as 5th December, an intense typhoon carved a path of destruction

through the Philippines, leaving many families in desperate need of emergency

shelter. Disasters such as this are all too common throughout the world. Once

again, Rotary will come to the fore with assistance. Already, a Shelter Box Response

Team is being mobilised to respond. Whilst our children were having fun in

the park, many of the children in the Philippines are fighting for survival.

Many regions remain isolated due to power outages, lack of communications

and damaged roads and bridges. Thousands of people are reported to be

in need of temporary shelter having lost their homes to the typhoon.

Shelter Box have now deployed to over 90 countries and currently have 7

separate deployments over 4 continents. Globally, ShelterBox focuses on

being prepared to respond quickly, anywhere in the world. If you are

thinking of making a donation to a worthwhile cause this Christmas, please

consider Shelter Box – any size donation can help. Whatever you can

do can help to make a difference.

If you would like to know more, see Santa’s helper Elf , Alan Jones.

Have a wonderful Christmas

Santa
