It is definitely an honor for me to be writing this editorial. Leading the team

towards creating this newsletter and finally publishing it was a brilliant learning

experience. Also, July was a very busy month for all our Rotaract clubs, and it

was wonderful getting to know about all the projects executed. A great

beginning to the Rotaract year is for sure a good sign for the upcoming months,

and I hope to see the same zeal and zest from all around the district.

I would like to thank DRR Ayesha for giving me this amazing opportunity and

Rtr. Mehreen for her relentless support during the making of this year’s first

DML.

Working as an editor for the DML was an exhilarating experience for me. It

gave me a chance to gain an insight into the world of Rotaract and our district.

I was able to better comprehend the aim of the rotaract clubs present in our

district and the various projects they took upon each month. To be able to

complete such projects in a short span of time is nothing short of a miracle,

and I would like to congratulate all the clubs who have accomplished this task.

MESSAGE FROM THE DRR

Dear Rotaractors,

Welcome to another new year!

This year the focus is on strengthening Rotaract through the following:

1. Increasing Membership

Quality is extremely important. Don’t increase members for the

sake of numbers! The new members should have a similar wavelength as your club’s existing

members and should add value to your club by contributing to the club’s projects and

meetings.

2. Strengthening connections between Rotaract Clubs and sponsoring Rotary Clubs

Sponsoring Rotary Clubs with their professional and more experienced members can be an

invaluable source of guidance and support. Have either the Rotaract Chair or any other

Rotarian from your sponsoring club present for every meeting and project of your club. They

can help you with your club’s projects including guiding you how to do your projects and

meetings better.

3. Reporting

The secretary needs to report the club’s monthly activities and projects. This helps to make

the DRR, the sponsoring Rotary Club and all other Rotaractors in the District aware of the

projects that are being done by the club, gives ideas to other clubs as to what projects can

be done, and also encourages various clubs with similar interests to look into the possibility

of joint projects.

4. Share any relevant knowledge with other Rotaractors

Any interesting and relevant news that you come across or any new learning should be

shared with members of your club and with other Rotaractors at large. The Facebook

Rotaract 3271 group is a good way to do that.

PETS, SETS, DISTRICT ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLATION

CEREMONY 2014

The President Elects Training Seminar, Secretary Elects Training

Seminar, the District Assembly and Installation Ceremony took

place at the Institute of Business Management on Saturday, 28th

June 2014. The event was hosted by the Rotaract Clubs of IoBM,

Karachi Karsaz and Szabist Mid-City. The main purpose behind

this event was the installation of the new council, president and

secretary of the district. Apart from various Rotaractors and

Rotarians, the DG Pir Ebrahim Shah, PDG Faiz Kidwai and past

DRRs and Rotaractors attended the ceremony.

The day began with the Presidents Elect Training Seminar (PETS) and Secretaries Elect Training Seminar

(SETS). PETS was conducted by PP Huzaifa Sadiq while SETS was conducted by DRRE Ayesha Allawala.

Presidents and Secretaries were trained and provided with

guidelines on how to manage their respective clubs. Afterwards, the

guests assembled in the main auditorium where the ceremony

formally began. Installation of new presidents and secretaries took

place and they were awarded with their respective pins. Positions of

Chairperson and Co-chairperson to work under the four domains of

Rotaract were assigned to young Rotaractors of vision and calibre.

Following the installation ceremony, the District Governor

distributed the Presidential Citations on behalf of Rotary International to a number of Rotaract clubs on

successful completion of the assigned activities.

PDRR Arif Siddiqui also presented an informative speech on the purpose of Rotaract and the main aims of

Rotaract clubs all around the world. Shortly after, the DRR Raza Tabish Farooqi presented his accounts of

the past year, followed by the presentation of budget for the following year by the DRR Elect Ayesha

Allawala. Four new clubs received charters, namely the Rotaract Club of Khairpur Greencity, the Rotaract

Club of NausheroFeroze, the Rotaract Club of Larkana and the Rotaract Club of Karachi Gulshan -e Hadeed.

Towards the end of the program, PDG Faiz Kidwai presented the initiation of a new program called TEACH

which is in collaboration with the government and USAid. This

program aims at promoting literacy by providing education to

children all over Pakistan.

The day ended with lunch and tea and the Rotaractors took

home with them new memories of yet another installation


ceremony.

ROTARACT CALENDAR 2014-15


CLUB REPORTS

Rotaract Club of Karachi Karsaz:

The Rotaract Club of Karachi Karsaz kicked off their new Rotaract year by

arranging two fellowship Iftars which were attended by members as well

as prospective members of the club. A ration distribution project took

place in which the club donated essential food items worth Rs. 7000 to

Dar-ul-Sukoon. Iftar items were also distributed to a local mosque in

Bahadurabad by the club.

Rotaract Club of Szabist Karachi Mid-City:

The Rotaract Club of Szabist Karachi Mid-City started off their year with an installation ceremony where

the new executive body took over their offices. The International Services Department conducted a unique

project called the “Humans of Rotary.” They created a Facebook page where Rotarians and Rotaractors

from all over the world can share their experiences and stories related to Rotaract/Rotary. The Community

Services Department looked extremely busy as they conducted two Ramazan projects. One was their

annual Ramazan project in which they

distributed ration to more than 450

families. Another Ramazan project called

“Commuters Iftar drive” also took place

in which these Rotaractors designed

iftar boxes and distributed them to

people at specific locations. Lastly, the

club collaborated with the Rotaract Club of Karachi Clifton in packaging of rations for the IDPs of North

Waziristan.

Rotaract Club of IoBM:

The Rotaract Club of IoBM began their new Rotaract year with two Community Service projects and an

International Services project. The first project they conducted was the Edhi Iftar project in which they

visited Edhi Center old age home and distributed biryani amongst

the senior citizens residing there. The second project executed by

this club was a visit and iftar at Dar-ul-Sukoon (old age home). They

spent time and performed various activities with the people there

and brought smiles to the senior citizens. Their final project involved

a fellowship dinner with the RYLA chief Mr. Marty Brynes and his

wife Mrs. Julia Brynes who were visiting Karachi from USA.


The Rotaract Club of Karachi Clifton:

The Rotaract Club of Karachi Clifton looked extremely busy all around the month as they conducted six

projects in this short span of time. They began their month with a club installation and fellowship iftar to

rejuvenate the feeling of Ramazan amongst all the members. The second project was also linked with the

spirit of Ramazan, called the ‘Ramazan Commuter’s Iftar’ project. The Community Service Department

distributed iftar to people on the streets of Karsaz for fifteen days. The

third project was executed in light of the IDPs of North Waziristan, called

‘Relief-Ration for IDPs’ which involved the collecting and packing of about

2500 bags of ration and sending it to the IDPs. The Rotaract Club of Szabist

Mid-city also helped them out in this cause. The fourth project carried out

was a seminar entitled ‘Purify your life’. This was zealously carried out by

the club as a process to enlighten the attendees’ hearts with the blessings

of our Creator. The fifth project involved a visit to Mashal Orphanage,

where the club conducted various activities and engaged in games and

competitions with the children living there. This was followed by an iftar

and dinner, and the club also donated ration to the orphanage. The final

project by the club during the month involved the installation of

direction boards at the Civil Hospital Karachi.

Rotaract Club of Khairpur Green City:

The Rotaract Club of Khairpur Green City conducted their

installation ceremony at the start of the new Rotaract year where

pins were distributed and duties were delegated to all members.

The next project was entitled “Blessings of Ramazan” in which

these Rotaractors arranged an event through which they aimed at

increasing and spreading the knowledge of Islam amongst its

attendees. A Qirat and Naat Competition took place as well.

Rotaract Club of Nawabshah Knight Riders and Rotaract Club of Sukkur:

The Rotaract Club of Nawabshah Knight Riders and the

Rotaract Club of Sukkur worked together on organizing a Naat

Competition at the Rotary Public School of Sukkur. Winners

were announced at the end and certificates of participation

were also distributed along with social mobilization items of

polio.


Rotaract Club of Hyderabad:

The Rotaract Club of Hyderabad started off their year with their installation

ceremony along with an iftar. Rotarians of their host Rotary Club were also

present during the ceremony and pins were awarded to the President and

Secretary.

Rotaract Club of Karachi Kolachi:

The community services department of the Rotaract Club of Karachi Kolachi

worked diligently and executed two projects during the month. The first

project was a dinner and musical program at Dar-ul-Sukoon. A medical camp

was also organized by Essa Lab. The second project involved an iftar and

dinner at Dar-ul-Zaeef (senior citizens home). The Rotaractors spent quality

time with the senior citizens and also donated Eid clothes to them. The

installation ceremony of the Rotaract club of Karachi Kolachi took place on 16th Aug 2014. Guests were

invited to the event and new positions were installed.

2014-15 PRESIDENTIAL CITATION

FOR ROTARACT CLUBS How does your Rotaract club make a difference? Use this form to plan and report Rotaract accomplishments for the

2014-15 Rotary year. To qualify for the Presidential Citation, Rotaract clubs must carry out two mandatory activities and select additional activities in order to score at least 70 points. Activities, listed below, must be completed between 1 July 2014

and 31 March 2015. In addition, the Rotaract club must have an active status with Rotary International. Before completing this form, the president of

the sponsor Rotary club must confirm that status by checking the New Generations Clubs report in Rotary Club Central. The

president then signs this form to certify the Rotaract club’s achievements and sends it to the district governor, who must

receive it by 31 March 2015. This form should not be sent to Rotary International, as it will not be processed. District governors must report the names of the qualifying Rotaract clubs in their district through My Rotary by 15 April 2015.

REQUIRED ACTIVITIES 1. Achieve a net gain in membership between 1 July and 1 March.

Check one of the following: Our club achieved a net gain of up to 4 percent. (5 points) Our club achieved a net gain of 5 to 9 percent. (10 points) Our club achieved a net gain of 10 percent or more. (15 points)

2. Update club and membership

information in My Rotary. Check as

many as apply: Club president’s contact information is current in My Rotary. (5 points) Club membership has been confirmed in My Rotary. (10 points) Every member has a My Rotary profile. (15 points)

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES Participate in an event that introduces Rotaract to your community. Refer to the

Rotary Days brochure for ideas. (10 points) Participate in a project or fundraiser that supports one of Rotary’s areas of focus locally or globally. (10 points) Use social networking (for example, Rotary Showcase, Twitter, Facebook,

ideas.rotary.org) to promote club activities. (10 points) Participate in professional development activities that enhance Rotaractors’ ability to compete in the job market. (10 points) Apply Rotary’s new visual identity guidelines on the club’s website and social media pages. (10 points) Collaborate with a local Rotary club on at least one service project.
