• It was started in 1999 by an unplanned trip to the East Timor refugee camps. After multiple trips to the refugee camps , we decided to look after some of the abandoned babies in a rented house at Kupang City. After feeling the need of having our own place we decided to build on orphanage on our own. We did it and it was officially opened by the Province Governor Alexander Piet Tallo in April 6th 2002.

• The orphanage has been a home for so many children and it has been a place where we can learn more about growing up, life, to live, to laugh and to love.
• Some people came with their family and came back to be a better family by realizing how lucky and blessed they are compared with the less fortunate children

• What kind of a place is Timor Island ? It is an area in Indonesia which has been the driest province in Indonesia where the rain fall is the least.
• It is the poorest province in Indonesia• Water and education are the most
needed for this place.

Water is a precious thing , can we help ?
• Water is some thing that the people in West Timor need it so badly. It will be great if we can help out with people with their sanitation by giving them an access to a clean and drinkable water
• It is so privilege for us to be able to have clean water every day
![Page 19: Roslin Orphanage In Brief](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061118/546977dbaf7959e3018b5fde/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)

Even during the rainy season clean water is not available easily

It is quite common for two buckets of water they have to walk for few miles
![Page 22: Roslin Orphanage In Brief](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061118/546977dbaf7959e3018b5fde/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)

A little water is better than nothing
![Page 29: Roslin Orphanage In Brief](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061118/546977dbaf7959e3018b5fde/html5/thumbnails/29.jpg)
Living without clean water can be translated as skin
sicknesses and problems to happen at any time
![Page 30: Roslin Orphanage In Brief](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061118/546977dbaf7959e3018b5fde/html5/thumbnails/30.jpg)

Living without water can lead into famine which we helped to delivered food on the streets
![Page 32: Roslin Orphanage In Brief](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061118/546977dbaf7959e3018b5fde/html5/thumbnails/32.jpg)
• During the dry season in Timor ( June to Nov) the infant mortality is the highest especially in October and November. Illnesses because of the airborne bacteria and the lag of clean water to wash things is the main factor. Access to clean water has been the wanted help for the Timor people.
![Page 33: Roslin Orphanage In Brief](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061118/546977dbaf7959e3018b5fde/html5/thumbnails/33.jpg)
Matching Grant # 66507 from Rotary International
• Currently my club Rotary Eclub3310 and Rotary Club Suntec City is having an on going clean water project in Kupang City , West Timor . The drilling activity has been done fully.
• The targeted people are the people who live in another orphanage ( Sikumana village) and a joined primary and secondary school near by , its location is about 40 km from Roslin orphanage.
![Page 34: Roslin Orphanage In Brief](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061118/546977dbaf7959e3018b5fde/html5/thumbnails/34.jpg)
A real success of a clean water project
The project was completed during my last trip to Timor . On April 15th 2009 we managed to celebrate the usage of the fresh water supply at another Familia orphanage ( Sikumana village) . From our togetherness a project can be completed and some 600 people are now able to enjoy enough supply of fresh water supply. This effort is a join project of Rotary Club Suntec City , Rotary EClub3310 of Singapore and The Rotary Foundation.

Education programs at “Roslin Orphanage”
• From the beginning Roslin orphanage is focusing the efforts on helping the children with their education. So much has been done but so much more must be deal with.
• The orphanage has built a fantastic library and with the help of another Matching Grant # 59419 of Rotary International we have been running a mobile library for the people who can not come to the library

• By another Matching Grant # 61236 we are getting the huge help from The Rotary Foundation upon providing good books for our “ Bolelebo” library. We have built two buildings on our own for these libraries. With this Matching Grant we are also enabled to buy 4 computers , an audio player and a projector. With these tools we can give the children not only reading materials but also some educational movies. We still need more books and others for this educational matter. Any one want to come and help is welcome.

Thank you for the library
• Because of this library our orphanage children are able to have an access to so many fantastic books.
• The fantastic usage of this library has been
enjoyed and one of our orphanage children has been accepted into the medical school. We are hoping to have our own in house doctor in 5 or 6 years time. Our thanks to Rotary International for the books .
![Page 53: Roslin Orphanage In Brief](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061118/546977dbaf7959e3018b5fde/html5/thumbnails/53.jpg)
What can be done through the orphanage
• There are lots of things which we can do through the orphanage. One of them is teaching the children to be able to help them self by : teaching them how to farm, vocational training for some useful skills and productive activity such as planting peanut, corn, rice, nursery plants and many others.
![Page 54: Roslin Orphanage In Brief](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061118/546977dbaf7959e3018b5fde/html5/thumbnails/54.jpg)
one of the success story in our orphanage
• Less than one year ago I was so worry when I am supposed to retire from my job. By having no job ( retired) means I will have no salary to finance the orphanage any longer. Without having some saving even for my own children, how can we finance the day to day needs of the orphanage .
![Page 55: Roslin Orphanage In Brief](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061118/546977dbaf7959e3018b5fde/html5/thumbnails/55.jpg)
• We have a property which things can not grow because of no water to irrigate the land. People never plan any thing and the land has been a thorny bush which the thorn can be as long as 7 CM.
• With the intention of getting “ any water” we bought 2 water submersible pumps and a generator just in case we will be able to find water. People said that the water is at least 44 Meter or even 70 Meter deep.
![Page 56: Roslin Orphanage In Brief](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061118/546977dbaf7959e3018b5fde/html5/thumbnails/56.jpg)

Land clearing in the process
![Page 59: Roslin Orphanage In Brief](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061118/546977dbaf7959e3018b5fde/html5/thumbnails/59.jpg)
• On our first trial upon drilling for water , we struck an artesian water source which a pump and a generator is not required any more. The water is flowing by it self 24 hours a day and even better as the water is drinkable directly from the source.
• Because of this water we cleared part of the land to about 2 hectares and made it into a paddy field in 3 months time.
![Page 60: Roslin Orphanage In Brief](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061118/546977dbaf7959e3018b5fde/html5/thumbnails/60.jpg)

• We planted our first paddy in Jan 2008 and we had our first harvest in April 2008.
• 1st November 2008 we will be having our 2nd rice harvest while the first harvest is only consumed less than 20% of it.
• We are declaring our self to be self sufficient on rice since April 2008.

Our current progress
• Our current project is to build the storage room to store our rice harvest and our equipments. This should be done in 4 weeks time if we have all the materials.
• Only when we are done with this project we will be able to put the children to their dorm which has been forced to be used as a storage room for us ( due to the abundant rice harvest).
![Page 111: Roslin Orphanage In Brief](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061118/546977dbaf7959e3018b5fde/html5/thumbnails/111.jpg)
• The next project will be opening a banana farm. For this we need to clear up the land from the nasty thorny bushes. The area is 25 000 M2. At this farm we will breed pigs, goats and some cows. The banana can be sold or made into some food products while the trees are a good source of food for the animals. All of the generated income will finance the orphanage.
