    HYBRID TEA

ROSESThe name hybrid tea came about because they originated

    from the old Tea Roses.

The old Tea Roses had a scent of freshly picked tea.

Although they produced very beautiful flowers they were not

very hardy and were very prone to a range of diseases.

Over the years and through very selective breeding the

modern Hybrid Tea has improved tremendously and is now

fully hardy and far better at fending off disease.

Hybrid Teas are very much the most popular form of rose and

come in a kaleidoscope of colours and fragrances.

For feeding, pruning etc see the Rose Care Page on Main Menu

A WHITER SHADE OF PALE (Peafanfare)Hybrid Tea Rose. 2006. 3ft-4ft.

A stunning new rose for our Hybrid Tea section.

As its name suggests, superb high centred white blooms with a hint of pale blushpink.

The blooms are large and perfectly formed and withstand all weathers.

Repeats well and the blooms come in flushes throughout the season.

    Dark semi-glossy foliage.

An easy to grow variety with a good health record.

For the best results, plant in full sun, dead head regularly, feed and water well and you will have a wonderful

show from spring until the first frosts.

Bred by Colin Pearce who is renowned for breeding good healthy roses and this stunner in no exception.

    Superb fragrance.

    Highly Recommended.

    ADRIANA (Frydesire)Hybrid Tea Rose. 1999. 2ft-3ft.

Gorgeous shapely blooms of delicate pale cream, deepening to creamy caramel.

A lovely healthy tough rose with masses of blooms throughout the summer and into

    autumn.

The spent blooms should be removed regularly to promote further blooms and

    keep the bush tidy.

    Good disease resistance

A good bedding rose as the blooms last quite a while and always seems to have a

    good show.

A very beautiful rose with a lovely spicy fragrance.

    ALECS RED (Cored)Hybrid Tea Rose. 1970. 4ft

Most catalogues would describe the flowers on this rose as 'Turkey red' al-

though the colour does fade a little with age.

The large flowers and the fantastic scent have enabled this variety to stay

    popular for many years.

It is a vigorous plant with dark green healthy foliage and repeats well

It comes into flower earlier in the season than most other roses so has agood long flowering period..

Named after a well known Scottish rose grower who started breeding late in

life, and this was his first big success and is now grown all over the world.

An excellent garden rose but does not always do well in a container.

We used to stock the climbing version but it did not prove popular as it had a limited flowering pe-

    riod.

    An award winning rose.

A beautiful Hybrid Tea where the large blooms are a lovely luminous combination

of peaches, pinks, apricots, creams and yellows.

The huge globular blooms are borne on firm stems on a neat compact plant.

Healthy light green shiny foliage sets the blooms off to perfection.

It is repeat flowering but there is often a short break between the summer flush

and the next flush, because the bush takes a little time to recover after producing

its large exhibition quality blooms in quantity.

Quite a stunning rose plus the bonus of a great perfume.

    Good disease resistance.

Quite hardy in a normal winter, but may need protection from frost in a severe winter.

AMAZING GRACEHybrid Tea Rose. 1992. 3ft-4ft.

This beautiful hybrid tea, in our opinion is one of the best in its class.

Lovely full blooms of rose pink which are ideal for cutting as they last well in wa-ter.

The superbly shaped blooms are produced one to a stem with no clustering.

A tall upright habit with semi-glossy green foliage.

Very good repeat flowering performance with the added bonus of a superb fra-

    grance.

The parents of this rose are both famous in their own right, and they have success-

fully transmitted their best qualities to their offspring.

    APHRODITE (Tan00847)Hybrid Tea Rose. 2006. 2ft-3ft

As very beautiful Hybrid Tea rose which certainly lives up to its name.

Stunning blooms of pale pink and apricot blends in abundance.

The blooms are weather resistant and hold their colour and form well, right through

the summer, and look superb at any time during their flowering season.

The tough leathery mid green foliage sets the blooms off to perfection, and the whole

effect is one of great beauty.

As an added bonus the bush has excellent health, good disease resistance and a lovely

    spicy fragrance.

Not very tall for a Hybrid Tea so can be grown in a container as a specimen rose or looks great as a group in

    the garden.

To cap it all it makes a great cut rose for indoors as the fragrant blooms last well in water.

    Highly recommended.

    cool weather.

The colour is coppery orange in the bud, lightening to coppery yellow with veins of

pale salmon as the blooms expand.

A beautiful feature of this large flowered rose is the two-toned effect within

the flower. The inside of the petals are a pretty golden bronze, while the outside surface

    flowered rose.

The flowers continue to appear through summer and autumn on vigorous

cerise pink.A good repeat flowering habit, and a super cut flower for the house.

A Registered Exhibition Variety so the blooms should be outstanding..

May need a bit of TLC to get the best results but is well worth the ef-

    fort for the blooms.

A lovely new rose with classic hybrid tea shaped blooms which looks a real winner.

A super rose for cutting as the stunning blooms last well in water and

fill the room with their lovely perfume.

A great rose for the garden with its stunning colour, and not too tall so

should do well in a container.

A good health record, so far.

Not widely known at the moment, but this will all change when it is

    seen in more gardens.

IRISH GOLDHybrid Tea Rose. 1966. 3ft-4ft.

This popular award winning large flowered rose has certainly stood up well

    against new varieties.

Its fully doubled blooms are well formed from the bud all the way through to

opening, and they have been widely used on the rose show bench for exhibi-

tion purposes and have won many prizes for their crispness of style.

The blooms are a pleasing yellow, without any harshness of tone, while the

outer petals sometimes carry some tinges of pink, and the open flowers can

often be seen with an edged overlay of pink.A good bush for any garden but keep it well away from the pathway as it has

    many thorns.

stout. Tends to get a little black spot but can easily be kept under control with regular spraying.

silvery salmon pink. They are double with 28 petals and hold their colour well.

The flower production is amazing and the repeat cycle is exception-

    ally rapid.

The foliage is light green and semi glossy on a vigorous and upright

    plant of medium height.

This lovely rose which is an excellent bedding rose has lost its popu-

larity over the last few years, which is a great shame as it is one of

the best roses of the 1960s.

    Good fragrance.

    MONIQUEHybrid Tea Rose. 1949. 4ft.

'Monique' is still a lovely, reliable garden rose after more

than 50 years in commerce and is still very popular as a gar-

    den rose.

The very long, pointed buds are a clear rosy salmon colour,

    rather more rose than salmon.

The huge blooms open to shapely, double flowers with 25 pet-

als which are up to 5ins (12cm) across and are extremely fra-

    grant.

It is a vigorous and upright bush with very few thorns that

has pale green, medium sized foliage.

This is an excellent rose for bedding and borders as it also has a good long flowering period.

Is also one for the flower arrangers as it is a good rose for cutting as the blooms last well and fill the room

    with their perfume.

    Highly Recommended.

    MOODY BLUE (Fryniche)Hybrid Tea Rose. 2008. 3ft-4ft

A stunning new roses which will cause great interest in the rose

    world.

Large beautifully formed blooms of intense blue-lilac with the

    petal edges tipped with violet.

As the blooms develop the colour softens becoming a much

    warmer silvery-lilac shade.

A very unusual rose which has strong vigorous healthy growth

and produces a wealth of blooms with a staggering continuity.

Excellent disease resistance and the bonus of a superb perfume.

Requires a warm spot and full sun to get the best show of blooms.

The blackish red elegant pointed buds on this lovely rose

open to reveal dark velvety-crimson high centred blooms of

    exquisite form.

Sends out one bloom per stem on long straight stems which areideal for cutting. Quite a good repeat cycle through the summer.

Dead head regularly to speed up the re-blooming cycle.

    Leathery olive green glossy foliage.

Not the hardiest of roses and needs a cosy spot to thrive.

Hardly a rose for the beginner as it is quite difficult to grow suc-

cessfully , needs regular spraying to keep it clean, and is quite a

challenge even for an experienced rose grower. However despite

its flaws it is considered to be one of the most beautiful red roses

in the world, plus one of the most fragrant, so well worth the ex-

    tra effort.
