PRESIDENT LETTER

Dear Neighbors,

It is going to be a great summer in Roselle’s parks! We hope you will enjoy one of our many program activities in our parks, a dip in Kemmerling pool, or just a quiet stroll along one of our many paths.

We have been working diligently on a strategic plan for the Roselle Park District. Th ank you to all who participated in our focus groups and to the almost 700 folks who responded to our survey. Your response rate tells us you are interested in your park district and that you want to make your views known. It will be several months yet before the strategic plan is fi nalized. If you have additional thoughts as to the future direction of the District’s facilities and programs, please contact us by sending an email to our Director at [email protected], call our Director at (630)894-4200, or stop by one of the Park Board meetings.

Although we have been enjoying an early and fabulous spring, many of our residents missed skating on turner Pond this winter, because the pond never froze well. Oh, well, there is always next year. And we are ready! Did you notice the new lights at Turner Pond and the seating/shelter area located on the east side of the pond? We are VERY thankful to the late Frank Kehoe of Fulton Contracting, a Roselle business that donated the poles and lights. Frank and his late wife Corrine were long time friends of the Roselle community and the Roselle Park District. Th ey donated the big-league lights at the Miracle Field at Parkside Park a number of years ago. Th ey were a part of what makes Roselle a great community.

On behalf of the Roselle Park District and elected offi cials, a heart-felt thank you is extended to BMO Harris Bank and Itasca Bank & Trust, who helped make the Bounce Back to School and Daddy|Daughter Night, a resounding success. You touched over 300 children and their families.

Th e Roselle Park District has been awarded a DCEO grant in the amount of $50,000. We will use this grant money toward the replacement and expansion of the playground adjacent to the Clauss Recreation Center. Th e new play equipment will not only provide new play opportunities for all park users but some of it will be sized to benefi t the many preschoolers who participate in the District’s pre-school programs. Th e plans are complete. We are awaiting fi nal approval by the State of Illinois. Installation of the new equipment is expected early this summer.

Do you know about our new on-line registration system? Check out our programs and register from home or work by going to www.rparks.org

Our staff continues to explore new program off erings. If you would like to see a program added, a program changed, or believe a program is not meeting your needs, let us hear from you. In this brochure, look for the following new and old off erings:

Roselle Park District’s Early Childhood Steps to Success: Taking Small Steps Toward Big Futures!

AGES 3-4

Diane Wagnerbegan her career at the Roselle Park District in September of1980 as a Pre-

School Teacher at the Clauss Center. Diane has been a vital part of the staff . It is clear to see her passion for teaching and working with the youngsters when watching her interacting with her students. Her hard work and dedication to the fi eld of early childhood is appreciated not only by the Roselle Park District staff , but by the parents and her students. Our current preschool parents describe her as, “a ray of sunshine, inviting and welcoming not only to her students but to us as the parents.” Th ey say, “She is a great teacher, patient and kind, and the kids just love her and they respond to her well.” Th e kids have a lot to say too. When talking to the kids about their teacher they say, “I love Miss Diane, she is a good teacher, I like the crafts we make, and I like that she lets us play with the kitchen set and dragon ship before we work on projects.” Diane has touched many lives and started kids on their educational journeys, a few of these “kids” have even returned as parents and now have their kids in the district’s preschool program. Diane is a valued member of the Preschool Staff , and we are all grateful for having her at the Roselle Park District.

Fall Youth Soccer League (VO)

Ages 5-13Emphasis in the Mid-Suburban Soccer League is placed on individual instruction, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Teams will be based on approximately 12 to 15 players per roster de-pending on age groups. Wait lists will be used until there are enough players and a volunteer head coach to form another team. Games are played on Saturdays against neighboring park districts. Competition will start September 8. Practices will be held during the week based on coach’s availability. Practices will start two weeks prior to game play dependent upon securing enough volunteer coaches. Parents will receive a call from their child’s coach once the team selection process is completed informing them of fi rst practice location, date and time. Registering before the July 16 early-bird deadline does not necessarily guarantee a spot on a team due to minimum/maximum numbers established to form a team. Th e number of teams competing this fall out of the Roselle Park District is to be submitted to league offi cials on August 4 for scheduling purposes. It is imperative to register prior to that date! Registra-tions will be accepted on a fi rst come, fi rst serve basis.

Take advantage of our early-bird sign-up fee of $53 by registering before July 16. All registra-tions submitted from July 16 on will be charged an additional $10 and, again, players cannot be guaranteed a spot on a team.

Please indicate on enrollment form if you would be able to manage a team. Also, please let our front desk staff know if you would be interested in coaching. Th ey will make note of this in our computer registration software. If you are not familiar with the game of soccer, don’t worry, we can teach you everything you need to know.

Age of a child on August 1, 2012, will determine what level he/she will play this fall.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

JAZZ: Class will consist of stretching, center warm ups, isolations, jazz progressions and turns, (center and across the fl oor.) Jazz combinations will be incorporated. All styles of jazz from competition dance to concert dance will be taught.

HIP HOP: Funky, fun and athletic, Hip Hop is a sepa-rate discipline of dance. Free-formed and derived from its street history, it’s a lot of pop and lock, fi lled with sharp percussive moves and a certain gymnastic quality. Loved from the serious dancer to the recreational dancer, cheerleading and poms, incorporate this in their routines. Class will consist of center warm ups, center core strengthening, and jammin center combinations. Come prepared to have fun.

LYRICAL: Lyrical Dance is one of the most popular, most noted styles of dance, within the dance com-munity. Lyrical combines techniques of classical ballet, jazz and adagio. It allows the dancer freedom of expression and movement cutting between the graceful, yet powerful forms of all three dance dis-ciplines noted above. Th e dance combines jumps, turns and various series of combinations. Much feeling encompasses this form of dance and requires ballet technique, as always, to attack this fun and exciting style. Lyrical has become a necessary part of dance training today. It is not to be confused with modern dance.

CREATIVE MOVEMENT: Introduction of dance begins here. Children are taught dance through a variety of familiar children’s songs. Basic ballet/tap technique and terminology is covered. Props are incorporated with this class to build interest for the young dancer. Class respect and socialization is highlighted. A little ballerina is about to be born!

COMBINATION CLASSES: Th ese classes provide beginning dancers a broader sampling of dance by combining two disciplines. Instructors will emphasize positions, posture, body line, fl exibility, and isolations. Students will participate in warm-up exercises, across the fl oor progressions and combi-nations, as well as other skills. Th rough combination classes, students will also increase their strength, style, and rhythm.

cancelled. Coming in the day of, or

resurrect it. Please register at least a

Even though you may have a Roselle address, you may pay taxes to another park district.Th erefore, proof of residency is required when registering for programs for the fi rst time. Th is may be done with a driver’s license, utility bill, (or a mortgage statement for those who are recently moving to the area). Roselle Park District residents support the district through property tax contribu-tions.

RETURNED CHECK POLICYWe gladly accept personal checks as pay-ment. If for any reason a check is returned to our offi ce marked “NSF,” we will contact you. You will then be required to submit a full cash or money order payment, as well as a $30 administrative fee, within a fi ve business day period. NON RESIDENT FEESUnless specifi ed by a particular program, the non-resident program fee is an additional $10 or 50% of the regular fee, whichever is less. Th is does not apply to facility rentals. For all facility rentals, Clauss Recreation Center, or Turner Park, there is a consistent $25 increase for non-residents in addition to the stated resident fees.

ROSELLE PARK DISTRICT AND THE ADATh e Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination on the basis of a disability. Th e Roselle Park District will make reasonable accommodations in recreation programs to enable participation by an individual with a disability that meets essential eligibility requirements for that leisure program and facilities. Th ose who use the Telecommunications Device for the hearing impaired may reach the park district by calling (800) 526-0844.

WAIT LIST PROCESSA wait list is formed when a class reaches participant levels beyond the maximum. Th e wait list is designed to maintain interested people in a holding area until more spaces in the program are available, someone drops out, transfers, or a new section is added by park district staff based on interest. Th e wait list is maintained based on the order we process registrations. Customers will be contacted for confi rmation before being added to one of our wait lists (or transferred from a wait list into the desired program) by the front desk or specifi c program super-visor. Please note: before a participant is transferred into a program all corresponding paperwork and payments are required.

WHAT ABOUT INSURANCE?Th e Roselle Park District does not provide medical coverage for injuries suff ered while participating in park district programs, or while using park facilities.Th e Park District, therefore, cannot assume responsibility for personal injury for persons participating in a recreation program or using facilities. Patrons are advised to make provisions for this coverage in their own personal insurance program.

All refund requests must be made at least two business days before the fi rst class meeting or practice of program. Trips and special events require reservations and planning weeks ahead of time and therefore do not allow us to accept refund requests unless there is a wait list and someone can fi ll the spot. Individuals requesting refunds with two or more business days notice, prior to the fi rst class meeting or practice will receive a full refund, less $5 for administrative costs. No refunds will be issued for any program after second meeting of a program, unless a physician’s note is provided. Refund requested for medical reasons will be prorated from the time the request is received. Refunds with facility rental fees:a.
