The battle for the Floyd of Rosedale Trophy might just be the win that sends one of these teams in the right direction. The Hawkeyes have dropped two of their last three games and fallen out of the top-25, which is hard to believe after their 2016 Rose Bowl Game appearance. The Gophers, who came into the season as a potential dark house in the Big Ten West, started 3-0 before falling to Penn State last week in overtime. Both teams are led by a senior quarterback and have a handful of running backs in the stable. Minnesota’s trio of RBs all have more than 25 carries and 185 yards so far this season, while Iowa has relied heavily on the tandem of LeShun Daniels Jr. and Akrum Wadley, who have both topped the 300-yard mark through five games this year. The Gophers have proven stout against the run this season, ranking 20th in the nation, and the Hawkeyes will have to lean on the ground game even more with leading-receiver Matt Vandeberg out with a foot injury. These two teams have split the last six meetings, with half of those games decided by five points or less. Expect a close one in Minneapolis. Alabama has been the benchmark for college football in the last decade. The Crimson Tide have been selected for the College Football Playoff in each of the last two years and won four National Championships with Nick Saban at the helm. During that stretch, however, Alabama has only gone undefeated once. Over the last two years, one team that has given the Tide a scare has been the Razorbacks, who have slowly grown under the tutelage of head coach Bret Bielema. The former Wisconsin head coach has improved his win total at Arkansas each season and has the Razorbacks ranked No. 16 in the AP Poll, their highest ranking since 2011. Last season, Alabama beat Arkansas 27-14, but needed 17 fourth quarter points to pull away. The year before, the Tide squeaked by the Razorbacks 14-13, once again using a fourth quarter touchdown to pull off the victory. Could this be the year the Razorbacks complete the upset? Either way, expect a game that could come down to whoever can score last. Oh, how the script has been flipped. Oregon, once kings of the Pac-12, have given way to Washington, who is currently ranked No. 5 in the AP Poll after dismantling Stanford last Friday night. While many suspected the meeting with the Cardinal would be the toughest task on a relatively weak schedule for the Huskies, attempting to defeat the Ducks in Autzen Stadium will not be a walk in the park. Oregon has unprecedented success at home, compiling an astounding 105-21 record since 1997. The Ducks have also racked up a 12-game winning streak against the Huskies, defeating Washington by nearly 24 points per game over that stretch. But these aren’t the same old dawgs. In head coach Chris Peterson’s third season, Washington leads all of college football in takeaways and turnover margin, and is ranked seventh in scoring offense and eighth in scoring defense. The Huskies are clearly the better team this season, but with the recent history of this series and a crazy atmosphere on the road, anything could happen. Expect a high-scoring affair with plenty of fireworks. GAME OF THE WEEK

NATIONAL GAME OF THE WEEK

Iowa and Minnesota both come into this game needing a big win to put on their resume.

Weekly projections from writers of several national publications on who they expect to see in the 103rd Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual.

Week five lived up to its billing as 10 ranked teams lost and five fell from the rankings. The biggest shock of the weekend was North Carolina upsetting Florida State, prompting the unranked Tar Heels to jump up to No. 17 and No. 16 in the rankings, while the Seminoles fell the furthest of any team, but remained ranked.

In the Big Ten, Wisconsin dropped a few spots to No. 11 and No. 12 after losing a close game with Michigan, while Nebraska continued its climb up to sneak up right behind the Badgers. Michigan State dropped out after losing to Indiana, giving the Big Ten four teams in the rankings. The Pac-12 gained a team in the rankings this week and now also has four as Colorado has joined the top-25 for the first time since 2005.

The Associated Press Poll is made up of a panel of 61 sports writers and broadcasters from around the country.

The USA Today Poll is also known as the Coaches Poll and is selected by the Amway Board of Coaches, made up of 64 head coaches at Bowl Subdivision schools. All are members of the American Football Coaches Association.
