Romulus and Remus from Livy's version, rewritten by Corwen Broch. Telling time, 10 to 20 minutes. Our story starts with a king, called King Proca, King of Alba Longa. e was a great man, as you might e!"ect for someone descended from Aeneas "rince of #roy .  $ow %roca had two sons, his older son Numitor , and his younger Amulius. &ince  $umitor was the oldest, and he had his fathers blessing, it was right that he became king after %roca died. Chance to talk about inheritance systems, is it fair that first sons become kings? Amulius was very jealous of his brother, being the King's brother wasn't enough for him. e made friends with the soldiers and "romised them many things if they would hel" him to get rid of his brother. Amulius attacked his brother's house, Numitor couldn't fight back against the soldiers and was captured. t was then that Amulius did something really evil, he killed all of Numitor's sons, because they were the rightful heirs to the kingdom. e couldn't bring himself to kill his own brother though, and so he banished Numitor , and made him live far away .  If time, describe the attack on N umitor's house to make the story mor e eciting. If time describe Numitor's house as a ty!ical "oman #il la, t$o stories, mosaics, bath% house etc. owever Numitor had a daughter as well as sons, called Rhea Silvia. e couldn't kill her, because it was one thing to banish your brother and kill his sons, it was (uite another to kill an innocent girl much loved by the "eo"le. f he had killed her, all his  "eo"le would have risen u" against him.  $ow if )hea had children, the oldest boy would be rightful king of Alba Longa and might take the kingdom back from Am ulius. &o Amulius sent )hea away to serve in a tem"le to the *oddess Vesta, and become a "riestess. #his was very clever ,  because "riestesses of + esta weren't allowed to get married or see any men, which meant Rhea would never have any children who could steal Amul ius's throne.  If time allo$s describe a ty!ical "oman T em!le, and talk about ho$ dif ferent &ods all had their o$n tem!les. "ome had more than thirty tem!les &he lived in the tem"le for a long time. &he was ver y angry, and she praed to !ars to hel" her. %erha"s ars did hel" her, because it turned out she was pregnant. %erha"s the *od himself was the father, that is what she said anyway. Amulius had an e!cuse now to throw Rhea into prison. )ather than kill the children himself though, he had them cast into a river to drown. %erha"s he was frightened that they
