The Mercati di Traiano (or Trajan’s Markets) are the ruins of a Roman multi-level shopping complex.
Set into the side of Quirinal Hill, the semi-circular forum was where Romans would gather to
shop, socialise and conduct business. Gaze at the impressive façade and take a walk through the
intriguing structure for a fascinating insight into ancient Roman life.
Reach the final destination with a 15-minute walk.

A striking 16th century square at what was once the northern gateway to Rome, Piazza del Popolo
is rich in history. While the space has been remodelled a number of times, it has remained an

containing masterpieces by Caravaggio and Raffaello – an ancient Egyptian obelisk and the
imposing gate, Porta del Popolo.
