Paul writes from CorinthAt the time of Paul, Corinth “was notorious as a place of

wealth and indulgence. ‘To live as a Corinthian’ meant to live in luxury and immorality. As a seaport it was a meeting place of all nationalities and it offered all of the attendant vices. The

temple of Aphrodite … priestesses were more than a thousand.. ‘sacred slaves’ who engaged in prostitution. It’s

wealth was derived from its commercial traffic by sea and land, its pottery and brass industries, and its political importance as

Act 18:1-2 After this Paul left Athens and went to Corinth. And he found a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to leave Rome (probably around A. D. 49).
