I. ROMANIAN TRANSBOUNDARY GROUNDWATER BODIES
From the 18 Romanian transboundary groundwater bodies, through bilateral agreements there were established that being important for a integrated management a number of 8 bodies, as follows:
 4 transboundary groundwater bodies with Hungary (ROSO01, ROSO13, ROMU20, ROMU22);
 1 transboundary groundwater body with Serbia (ROBA18); 2 transboundary groundwater bodies with Bulgaria (RODL04,
RODL06); 1 transboundary groundwater body with Moldova Republic
(ROPR05).From the 8 important identified transboundary groundwater bodies, 6
belong to the porous-permeable type (stored in Quaternary, Pannonian and Sarmatian deposits) and 2 of them belong to thefissural-karstic type (developed in Sarmatian and Upper Jurassic –Lower Cretaceous formations).

II. BILATERAL AGREEMENTS REGARDING TRANSBOUNDARY GROUNDWATER BODIES (1)
A. BILATERAL AGREEMENTSBilateral agreements regarding transboundary groundwater
bodies were signed with Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria and Republic of Moldova, which pursued:
• Establishment of transboundary groundwater bodies which are considered to be important (with a surface larger than 4000 km2 or important from the point of view of water supply);
• Harmonization of transboundary groundwater bodies characterization with neighboring countries.
![Page 10: ROMANIAN TRANSBOUNDARY GROUNDWATER BODIES · PDF fileromanian transboundary groundwater bodies mihai bretorean, rodica macalet aurel rotaru, marin minciuna, ruxandra balaet. i. romanian](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022021421/5a8214df7f8b9a0c748dc2b4/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Generally, agreements pursue the following objectives:• Evaluation of groundwater resources from the qualitative and
quantitative point of view;• Design of a monitoring system with information exchange;• Establishing the necessary measures for the protection of
groundwater bodies;• Promotion of an integrated water management based on
sustainable protection and adequate use of groundwater resources;
• Increase in the local decisional degree regarding sustainable water management (evaluation, monitoring, exploitation and protection).

IV. NECESSARY MEASURES FOR SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT, INCLUDING TRANSBOUNDARY
GROUNDWATER BODIES (1)
A) Necessary measures:• The analysis of the national monitoring network and its resizing in
accordance to specific situations, important in groundwater bodies at risk and transboundary groundwater bodies;
• Equipping the national monitoring network with measuring and data transmission equipment (quality data for the indicators requested by the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC: oxygen content, pH, electric conductivity, nitrates, ammonia);
• Intensifying the protected areas setting-up process;• Placement of monitoring drillings for the determination of the evolution
in time of the piezometric situation in case of tappings; • Implementation of certain adequate agricultural practices for the
protection of the environment, including groundwater bodies;• Initiation of a national education program for the protection of
groundwater bodies and the environment in general.

B) Special measures to be undertaken for transboundarygroundwater bodies prone to risk:
 Stopping pollutants which generated impacts and the decrease of anthropogenic pressure which constitute potential impacts for groundwater bodies;
 Realization of a local network for the monitoring of groundwater quality from the areas with a high level of pollution/risk;
Implementation of techniques for the remediation of polluted groundwater bodies.
