ROMANIAN ENERGY DAY SECURING THE SMART GRID
through
INNOVATION & DIGITALISATION
Brussels 5th June 2018 Mercè GRIERA i FISA
Antonio SANCHEZ APARICIO
CONNECT H.2 – Smart Mobility & Living
Towards a Gigabit European society based on high-capacity networks
Digital challenge
• Gigabit connectivity for all of main socio-economic drivers, • Uninterrupted 5G coverage for all urban areas and major terrestrial transport paths, and • Access to connectivity offering at least 100 Mbps for all European households
Living in a fast-evolving world, facing
complex societal
challenges
The EU is aiming to ensure affordable, secure and
sustainable energy for all Europeans
2 of the 10 priorities of Juncker´s Commission
Synergies must be exploited
Digital Single Market and the Energy Union
Taking full advantage of Digitisation is the core of the
EU's Digital Single Market
In 2016 Network and Information Security
Directive(NIS) is the first piece of EU legislation on it
software & telecom providers have different redundant systems to fight and prevent these attacks such as multi-level encryption information, firewalls,
alternative communication lines
Cybersecurity is one the synergies
In 2017 Juncker launched an initiative to reinforce ENISA, & the establishment of an EU
cybersecurity certification
CEF-Telecom Cyber Security Call
Acquisition of IT systems (e.g. firewalls, tools for treat assessment, simulation environments)
Training facilities Skills and structural support development awareness
campaigns, hackathons, cyber exercises, etc.
Funding is granted to Operators of Essential Services Transport and Energy operators particularly welcome
Opening 16 May 2018 Closing 22 November 2018 Expected contribution 150,000€.
DIGITISING THE ENERGY VALUE CHAIN
Two main conclusions emerged from the workshop:
Building cross border e-Platforms to provide information & energy
related services
Implementing Digital infrastructures to optimise
energy interconnections amongst Member States
It would facilitate the development of the EU energy market, and more optimal use of renewable energy
Digital energy services e-platforms • Renewable energy e-platform: forecast generation across
the EU accessible to generators, TSOs, DSOs, aggregators, etc.
• Advanced simulation platform: monitor and predict evolution of energy market
Digital infrastructure to optimise energy interconnects • Need for more coordination TSOs/DSOs and among DSOs • Enable digital and physical interconnections at distribution
level across international borders • New value added services exploiting IoT, 5G and IoE
Identifying Synergies – Workshop of February 2018
MFF 2021- 2027 BUDGET FOR THE FUTURE
Commission proposal adopted on 2 May 2018
€25 billion Connecting Europe Facility to finance digital, transport and energy infrastructure
€9.2 billion Digital Europe Programme to support the digital transformation of Europe’s society and economy
The Connecting Europe Facility and the Digital Europe Programme will help develop very high capacity digital networks and innovative digital services
CEF2
Expected adoption by the Commission 6 June 2018
Synergies Actions contributing to objectives of at least two sectors
defined in work programmes and funded by the involved sectors
Actions that include ancillary elements for a cost not exceeding 20% of the total
Budget CEF Transport ~13 billion € CEF Energy ~ 8 billion € CEF Digital 3 billion €
Objectives CEF-Transport Smart and Sustainable Mobility CEF-Energy Smartening and Digitalisation. CEF-Digital infrastructure for cross-border energy and transport projects and Operational Digital Platforms
