Thought for the Week

Sometimes we wait for the “perfect” time to do something. After sincerely asking the Lord for His wisdom and

guidance, we should think about these words of scripture:

“Those who wait for perfect weather will never plant seeds.

Those who look at every cloud will never harvest crops.”

(Ecclesiastes 11:4)

Respect Life

In regard to the specialness of adoption, one of our parishioners made this beautiful statement a few years ago in our St.

Mark’s publication, “Our Voices”. She was addressing this sentiment to her three adopted children.

“Not flesh of our flesh, not bone of our bone,

but still miraculously our own.

Never forget for a single minute that you

did not grow under our heart, but In it!

(May Jesus bless and guide each mother who may find herself in a crisis pregnancy. Lord, please let her know

that there are so many wonderful couples wanting to provide a home to love and nurture her precious child.)

The Eucharist

As Christians our most important thought is thanksgiving for what Jesus has done for us. The

word, “Eucharist” means just that—being thankful. Jesus made it possible for all of us to be in Heaven

with Him some day! When He gave His life for us on the cross, He opened the gates of Heaven!!

When we receive communion, we remember this and how He has given us this sacrament as ‘food for

our journey’.

Words from Pope Francis

A Scripture to Ponder

“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”

Catechetical Sunday

September 18, 2016

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

As the chief catechist of the Diocese of Rockville Centre I am delighted to join you in the celebration of

Catechetical Sunday 2016! How appropriate it is for us to focus on this year’s theme: “Prayer: The Faith

Prayed” as we continue our celebration of the Year of Mercy.

This year’s theme reminds me of the adage used so frequently by liturgists for many centuries: lex orandi

lex credendi. This Latin phrase states so succinctly the intimate relationship between the law of prayer

and the law of belief. What a timely meditation for all of the baptized who are called by Pope Francis to

be missionary disciples in the world today. We cannot spread the Gospel if we don’t first pray. We can’t

know the Gospel if we do not hear the Word of God proclaimed in our Sunday assemblies.

On this Catechetical Sunday we give thanks to all those in our parishes who give their time and talent to

bringing the Word to life in our various catechetical programs. We give thanks too for all who strive to

make our Sunday liturgies opportunities for our families to gather and pray as one, holy, catholic and

universal church here in the Diocese of Rockville Centre as they pray together at Sunday Mass in the

parish.

As we continue to pray during this Year of Mercy let us reach out to all those who participate in our

catechetical programs. Let us provide opportunities for them to come to Sunday Mass to experience the

joy of being one with us as we come together each week as the Merciful Body of Christ.

With my prayers and best wishes, I am

Faithfully yours in Christ,

Bishop of Rockville Centre

St. Pius X Enriched Living Facility

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

Please except my deepest thanks for your prayers and continued support for the senior Priests residing at

St. Pius X Enriched Living Facility.

As Rev. Msgr. Charles Nosser, retired Pastor of Our Lady of Victory, Floral Park and current resident of St.

Pius X, shared, “We give thanks to God for this wonderful facility and thank the wonderful people of our

Diocese for supporting it. St Pius is a place to come when you need assistance and still be with fellow priests

and friends.”

St. Pius X ensures that our senior priests are being cared for in a setting that fosters their spiritual lives,

nurtures their physical and mental wellbeing and guarantees that they can continue to live with dignity

while assessing a wide array of social and spiritual opportunities.

“Still on duty,” St Pius X provides the opportunity for our senior priests residing there to remain fully

engaged members of our Diocesan community, serving as our teachers, counselors and spiritual leaders.

Every morning in their Chapel, they can be heard praying for the good people of our Diocese.

St. Pius X means so much to our retired priests. Please give prayerful consideration of a gift in support of

this important facility. Your support will ensure that our retired priests will be served today and long into

the future.

I ask you to remember them especially in your daily prayers, as we are remembered in theirs.

With my prayers and gratitude, I am

Sincerely Yours in Christ,

Bishop of Rockville Centre
