FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
The summer is almost over. I hope you had a
nice one. I did.
The recent violence in Virginia brings to mind
the fact that, as Catholic Christians, we do not
accept violence as a solution to problems, we do
not accept racism or discrimination of any type
against any nationality or religion, and we are
not extremists who advocate these things. There
is no justification for this behavior.
We pray for the victims of all terrorist attacks,
domestic or foreign.
Fr. Jeff

Thought For This Week
Jesus is as close as the mention of His Name.
( ...and His Name is so powerful!)
The Eucharist
“For I received from the Lord what I also handed onto you, that the Lord Jesus,
on the night He was handed over, took bread, and after He had given thanks, broke it and said,
‘This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’ ”
(1 Corinthians 23-24)
Respect Life
God of the family, Lord of the frail,
may compassion and protection overflow from Your heart to ours.
(From: Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day)
Words from Pope Francis ...
A Scripture to Ponder..
“His mercy endures forever.”
(Psalm 136)
Just a Thought…

If we encounter someone who does not believe,
our response should be:
“Could such a beautiful symphony have no conductor?”

A Little Humor
Wisdom and Works of Mercy Group
The Wisdom and Works of Mercy group will resume meeting starting on Wednesday, September 13th
following the 9:00am Mass in the hall. We began this study using the book “The One Thing is Three” by Fr.
Michael Gaitley, MIC in the spring and are finishing it now with a 6 week course of study. We are studying
God’s plan of salvation in light of the communion of love of the most Holy Trinity. Now is our time to be
trained in self-giving love so that we can easily enter into the overwhelming joy of our God who is Gift, Love,
and Communion. The good news is that we don’t have to wait for heaven to begin to experience and enter into the life
and love of the Most Holy Trinity within us. If you wish to “jump in” and join this study group or obtain a copy of the
book “The One Thing is Three” by Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, contact: Theresa Piekut (631) 848-7612 or
email: [email protected]
School Supplies
Thank you for all the school supplies you have provided for families struggling with this added amount to their budgets.
Our St. Mark’s family always provides exactly what is needed.
God Bless You!

FAITH FORMATION
631 821-0550
Registration for our classes for Levels1 through 9,
for the 2017-18 Catechetical Year continues. Chil-
dren entering first grade in school need to be regis-
tered at this time to prepare over two years for the
sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist.
Children then continue with each level, growing in
our faith and leading to the reception of the sacra-
ment of Confirmation in the first year of high
school. We also welcome any new families to our
parish, families with older children and teens who
may not have received any of our sacraments, and
also children and teens with special needs. The Faith
Formation Office will be closed from August 28
through September 1 for vacation. However, regis-
trations will be taken following our 9:30 Mass on
Sunday August 27 and Sunday September 3 and you
may also e-mail ([email protected]) with any ques-
tions or concerns. You may also visit the Faith For-
mation Office beginning Tuesday, September 5 from
9:30 to 12 and 1 to 5:30. Please call or e-mail if
these times are not convenient for you to arrange
for another time.
Our Catechists contribute so greatly to the ongoing
formation of our children, teens and their families.
Father Jeff and I certainly are so fully aware of the
Catechists’ deep personal faith and their enthusias-
tic dedication to this ministry. The Diocese also an-
nually acknowledges those who have volunteered in
Faith Formation for a number of years. Those hon-
ored include Catechists and assistants for our
weekly classes and those offering to share their gifts
in Youth Ministry, the Baptism ministry, RCIA, Pre-
Cana or the Ministry of Consolation. Father Jeff and
I are delighted that we will be able to witness the
presentation of Catechetical Service Awards on Octo-
ber 22 at the Basilica in Southampton to Susan Arm-
brecht, Gina Mingoia, Kim and Rocco Sabino and
Carla and A.J. Silva. All have been sharing their faith
weekly with the children and teens for at least five
years, while Kim and Rocco also prepare couples for
marriage through our parish’s Pre-Cana program.
Truly they have heard Pope Francis’ and Bishop Barres’ call to be missionary disciples in our world today.

St. Mark’s is blessed to have Eucharistic Adoration every first Friday of the month.
Adorers are needed to keep Jesus company.

Your presence assures a constant expression of adoration throughout this beautiful time.
Let Your God Love You

Alone & Empty before your God.
Say nothing. Ask nothing.
Be silent. Be still.
Let your God look upon you.
That is all.

He loves you with an enormous love.
He only wants to look upon you with His love.
Quiet.
Still.
Be.
Let your God love you.
Come join in this blessed time!
