Journey to Bethlehem

Sat. Dec. 5, 10:30 am,

Ready to take your family

back in time?

We will be creating an experience of ancient Bethlehem to

taste, see and hear what daily life was like at the time of Jesus’

birth. The journey begins in the Holy Trinity meeting room

where your family group will “register” and then on to the Hall

with stations, activities, food for kids of all ages. Bring the

whole family.

Contact the church office by Nov. 30 so we have enough

supplies & goodies for everyone.

Archdiocese of Regina Annual Appeal 2015

The "Appeal Year" always runs from January to December, however the public campaign is in the Fall.

Throughout the year you may donate to the Appeal and at Holy Trinity we have the opportunity to distribute our donations throughout the year by way of a monthly offer-ing envelope in our envelope boxes. You may also just choose to make a one-time donation during this Fall Campaign. The various options for making a donation are put before you so that you may contribute to the mis-sion of the church in our midst in a way that correlates to your ability. There are extra pledge cards/brochures in the Gathering Area if you did not receive one in the mail with this Fall Campaign.

Giving is one means we have of both growing the

Church, and deepening our Spiritual lives. Allow God’s own generosity to bear abundant fruit through your gifts as you support your Church in the Archdiocese of Regina

To date, Holy Trinity has raised over $27,000 of its $63,000

goal.

Containers and trays left in Kitchenette are waiting to be claimed. Please check to see if any are yours.

2016 Religious calendars available from CWL members at

weekend Masses. Just $5!

THANK YOU for your generous response to our re-

quest for socks, mitts and toques. Members of Holy Trinity Social Justice Committee have delivered them

to Sacred Heart & Holy Rosary Community Schools and Visitation House.

The next CWL general meeting is our annual pot-luck in Holy Trinity Hall on Monday, December 7th. Doors open at 5:30 pm, socializing at 6:00 pm and supper at 6:30 pm. Please bring guests and your favourite ap-petizer, main course or dessert to share.

The Book of Gospels

Why? When ? How?

With the publication of the Book of Gospels for Canada the provisions of the Roman Missal can now be more fully implemented. Now only the Book of Gospels is car-ried in the Entrance Procession of the Mass, which we will begin doing next Sunday, Nov. 29, the beginning of the new liturgical year. While this may seem to be new to many, it is one of the ancient traditions of the Church. That is, to highlight the Gospels because of our belief that Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of all of the Scriptures. In 1969, when the reformed liturgy of Vatican II was im-plemented, there were no editions of the Book of Gos-pels available. Hence, in many situations the Lectionary was carried in its place.

Celebrating the Liturgy of the Word

In the Liturgy of the Word, God’s Word is presented to the liturgical assembly, not only in verbal proclamation, but also in music and ritual. Singing the Responsorial Psalm, and the Gospel Acclamation brings God’s Word to life for the assembled people. The procession with the Book of Gospels, accompanied with heartfelt song, can-dles and possibly incense, appeals to more than the sense of hearing by engaging the senses of sight and smell as well. In this way, the Liturgy of the Word is able to appeal to and engage the whole person. The pres-ence of the Book of Gospels, carried in procession, helps emphasize God’s Word as present and visible to the assembled people.

Liturgical Symbol of Christ

The liturgical assembly itself is the original and main symbol of the presence of Christ. Within the assembly the Book of Gospels, solemnly carried in both the En-trance and Gospel Processions, became the first object to mirror the presence of Christ to the liturgical assembly. This predates the use of the processional cross. It ex-plains the rationale in our tradition of having an ornately decorated cover for the Book of Gospels. It also ex-plains why the image of Christ or the Cross is often found on many of the ancient and modern editions. This prominently carried icon of Christ helps us to know that Christ is indeed among us and speaks the words of life to us as he did to his disciples.
