Munera: Teach, Govern, and Sanctify Please mark your calendars for First Friday and First Saturday Devotions this week. Today we celebrate, although not liturgically, the Feast of St. Michael on the traditional cal-endar and Sts. Michael, Raphael, Gabriel on the new calendar. St. Michael, as the Bible tells us fought in the battle against Lucifer who rose against God, thus Michael means: who is like God! St. Michael stands for the need to fight against evil and injustice and he has become the patron saint of Police Officers and Law En-forcement who like St. Michael do just that. We should always remember to pray for our police daily! So many people seem to be against law and order in society and prefer lawlessness which so very sad! Without law and order soci-ety suffers. Just like priests the police are un-der attack because there have been a few bad ones but, the bad ones do not outweigh the greater number of good ones! Our city owes a great deal to the men and woman in blue! I think it would be good for us to not only pray daily for our cops but to say “Hello” to them when we pass them or say “Officer, I’m praying for you!” In my eight years of living in New York City I have seen a change on our streets and on the subways due to the fact that the police are not properly supported as they should be and hon-estly, I prefer not to wear my collar on the sub-way at night because of the changes I have seen and experienced. We see the water bottle at-tacks on our police, and in other cities police being asked to leave coffee shops, and killed in cold blooded murder, all these acts deepen our concern for our “Finest”. May St. Michael pro-tect all in Law Enforcement and in particular the NYPD! During this month we have had a statue of St. Michael out on display with a can-dle burning for our NYPD and for the Fallen. Thank you NYPD for all you do! In Christ, Rev. Stephen Saffron PS. October 7th is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. The Holy Rosary will be prayed after the 8:00AM Mass as it is done daily. In the eve-ning we will have a TLM at 7:00PM a half hour earlier then we usually celebrate special Masses so that we can have a Rosary Proces-sion around the block.
