SAINT MARY ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH BEDFORD, OH

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP Just a reminder that the monthly Bereavement sup-port group meeting in December will be on the sec-ond Tuesday of the month (12/10) at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope church. We will be talking about cop-ing with grief during the holidays. Anyone is wel-come even if you have never attended before. STATIONS OF THE NATIVITY Please join us on Monday, December 9th at Our Lady of Hope Church at 2:00 p.m. for these stations. The events leading up to and following the birth of Christ are arranged into 14 "stations," beginning with the angel's announcement to Zechariah and end-ing with the return of Mary, Joseph and Jesus from Egypt. Hope to see you there if you can make it.

Please remember in your prayers the repose of the soul of Lois St. John who was buried from our Church this past week. May her soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in the arms of Jesus and Mary

DIVINE MERCY HOLY HOUR Please join us for a special hour of adoration and thanksgiving to the Divine Mercy of Jesus on Sun-day, Dec. 8th, from 2:30-3:30 at St. Monica Church.

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT DECEMBER 8, 2019

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK Dear Parishioners, Since the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception (December 8th), falls on the second Sunday of Ad-vent this year, the solemnity honoring the Blessed Mother will be moved to Monday, December 9th. Consequently, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is not a holy day of obligation this year. There will be an 8:00 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of Hope (the regularly scheduled daily Mass) and a specially added 4:00 p.m. Mass at St. Mary. The dogma of the Immaculate Conception confesses as it was infallibly proclaimed by Pope Pius IX in 1854: “The most Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the first moment of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of almighty God and by virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ, Savior of the human race, preserved immune from all stain of original sin” (CCC 491). That means that the Blessed Mother Mary, born of two human parents, Anne and Joachim, was con-ceived without original sin, and she remained pure from all personal sin throughout her life. May we emulate the virtue of the Blessed Mother as we jour-ney through this Advent Season. The offertory enhancement campaign, Build-ing on Our Past, Securing Our Future, has officially concluded, and I want to thank all the parishioners at St. Mary who sent in a pledge card. I realize that not everyone can increase their weekly contribution due to financial constraints. The Church just asks that you do what you can to help support our community of faith. Almost 59% of the parishioners who gave to the Sunday offertory this past year made a commit-ment on their pledge card for the upcoming year. Overall, the commitments reflect a 149% increase in the Sunday offertory over previous donations from those who responded with a commitment card. 79% of those who participated in the campaign gave more than a 30% increase in their Sunday offertory. 7% of the people gave a 20-30% increase in their weekly donation. 2% of the people gave a 10-20% increase, and 12% of the respondents increased their offertory by less than 10%. We had nine families who newly identified themselves as active supporters of St. Mary. The total amount of new money pledged for the upcoming year was $106,135. It is important that parishioners maintain their commitments throughout the year so that St. Mary is able to continue its mis-sion in the city of Bedford and surrounding commu-nities. Thanks again for all the financial support and prayers! Advent blessings, Father Joe

ST. VINCENT DEPAUL In today's Gospel, John the Baptist urges us to "Prepare the way of the Lord.” This is what Advent is all about, for we are called to help prepare the way of the Lord by making the real mean-ing of Christmas come alive in our own hearts, in our family and to reach out to those in need. Is there a family you know who needs as-sistance? Please call the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that togeth-er we can help the suffering and poor to celebrate Christmas. ALL ARE WELCOME!! There will be a fundraiser breakfast from 7:00-11:00 a.m. at Sirna’s Café in Bedford on Saturday, Decem-ber 14th. Cost is $6.00, but if you bring canned goods, your breakfast will be $3.00. Drinks are not included. We will have a Lotto Christmas tree & wine basket raffle for $1.00 per ticket. This fundraiser is for Fr. Dan’s Food Pantry located at Hope United Church, 79 Center Road. CATHOLIC CEMETERIES ASSOCIATION The next Grief Support Group meets on Sunday, De-cember 15th from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at All Saints Ceme-tery in Northfield and Calvary Cemetery in Cleve-land.
