SAINT MARY ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH BEDFORD, OH

If you have been coming to Mass for a while but are not Catholic, we invite you to look deeper into the Catho-lic Faith. Learn what Catho-lics believe in an open and

welcoming environment. These sessions are opportu-nities to ask perplexing and difficult questions about the Church. RCIA sessions are for inquirers and are open to people who are not baptized, baptized Chris-tians from Protestant backgrounds and baptized Cath-olics who have not made First Communion and Con-firmation. Please contact Fr. Joe or Louise at the par-ish office for more information or to register.

50th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

The 50th Wedding Anniversary Mass is on Saturday, October 12th at 10:00 a.m. with Bishop Nelson J. Perez presiding (at the Cathedral of St. John the Evange-list). The Mass is for couples residing within the Dio-cese of Cleveland married 50 years. Couples celebrating other significant anniversaries (55 or over) or who have missed previous celebrations are welcome to register and attend as well. We request that each couple bring no more than four family members to celebrate Mass with them. Please go online to www.ccdocle.org/mfm to reg-ister. Registrations are due by Monday, September 16th. This is a firm deadline for preparation purposes.

MARRIED COUPLES GET-AWAY WEEKEND How would you like to learn more about your spouse and God on the same weekend? A Marriage Encoun-ter Weekend can do that for you! The fall weekend is just around the corner, so make plans now to attend; October 11-13 at the Homewood Suites in Solon. Call Jack and Fran at 330-305-9963 to sign up.

SVDP In today’s Gospel Jesus said to his disciples: “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it be accomplished!” Your gift to the Society to assist those suffering in poverty will help set the earth on fire with God’s love.

20TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 18, 2019

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK Dear Parishioners, This Sunday we have the Saint Mary Parish Picnic at the Twinsburg Pool Pavilion at 10270 Ravenna Road, Twinsburg 44087. Please join us for a fun-filled afternoon from noon until 5:00 p.m. As many of you know, we lost power at St. Mary Church around 2:00 p.m. last Saturday. The power was not restored until around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night. Un-derground wires by the green electrical box next to the choir room entrance cracked and shorted out the whole power line. A similar situation happened at Our Lady of Hope on Wednesday, April 24th where the entire property was without power for 16 hours. At OLH the power company had to replace an un-derground line from Center Road to the school. Luckily neither church had to pay for any of the re-pairs. I’m sorry for the inconvenience this caused parishioners coming to the 4:00 p.m. Vigil at St. Mary. We started Mass 15 minutes later at OLH, and about 60 St. Mary parishioners came over to Our Lady of Hope for the “4:15 p.m. Vigil.” Many school-aged children and college stu-dents are going back to school in the next week or two. We wish them well on the beginning of a new school year. We also ask for blessings upon those who teach our youth. The following prayer is from the Book of Blessings, and it is for students and teachers: “Lord our God, in your wisdom and love you surround us with the mysteries of the universe. In times long past you sent us your prophets to teach your laws and to bear witness to your undying love. You sent us your Son to teach us by word and example that true wisdom comes from you alone. Send your Spirit upon all students and their teach-ers and fill them with your wisdom and blessings. Grant that during this academic year they may de-vote themselves to their studies and share what they have learned with others. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen. ”

Have a blessed week. Father Joe CLEVE. CATHOLIC WOMEN’S CONFERENCE All women are invited to the first annual Cleveland Catholic Women’s Conference on Saturday, October 19th at St. Basil the Great Parish in Brecksville. Hear from Fr.
