Ask Carl

Q: It’s really hot outside now. It would be nice to buy some ice cream in the club house. Is this a possibil-ity?

A: That is an excellent idea. In fact, a freezer has already been purchased for ice cream and the Board hopes to sell ice cream in the club house shortly.

Q: Why are the medals in the summer open play?

A: During the summer months the number of golfers in tournaments dip a bit due to people being out on holidays and also because of the heat. To help encourage people to play, we make the summer med-als open play.

Q; Can the course stay open later at night?

A: That’s a great suggestion. The Board will discuss it at the next Board meeting.

If you would like Carl to answer a question, please email a Board member and they will make sure Carl gets it.

Eid Eclectic

This year’s Eid Al Fitr Eclectic will occur during Thursday, August 31st through to Tuesday, Septem-ber 5th. Golfers can play a maxi-mum of 6 rounds. Golfers must declare to their playing partners before they begin the round that it will be a tournament round that will count towards the Eclectic Score. Golfers should have their playing partner initial the round once the round is completed. The round must be recorded on the tournament scorecard. Each day will be represented on the card. You must record the score for that day in the appropriate loca-tion. For a round to count towards your eclectic score, you must complete at least 14 of 18 holes of the round.

Sign-up on ForeTees is now open.

USGA and R&A developing world handicap system

The USGA and R&A announced that they have formed a joint committee to develop a single, world handicap system and plan to announce proposed measures later this year. Under the current system, more than 15 million golfers, across 80 countries, have registered handicaps amoung six systems across the world - the USGA, Golf Australia, Argentine Golf Association, South African Golf Association, European Golf Association and Council of National Golf Un-ions (CONGU) in Great Britain and Ireland.

They have been working with golf organizations across the world for the past two years with the hope of unifying the handicap system under a new measure that "takes into account the many inherent golf cultures and most common formats of play." Per USGA, "With one global system, golf courses will be rated and handicaps calculated in a consistent manner every-where in the world”
