Curriculum Vitae: Cecilia Brunetti is a post-Doc at CNR-IVALSA in Sesto Fiorentino (FI). She graduated in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology at University of Florence, then she got her PhD in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. She works on plant responses to abiotic stress, in particular her research is focused on the role of secondary metabolites in plant-environment interaction. In the latest works, she investigated physiological and biochemical adjustments adopted by plants when exposed to drought and heat stress. She is in the editorial board of the journal Flora. She is author of 34 papers published in scientific journals with impact factor and 3 book chapters. Abstract: The biosynthesis and emission of biogenic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) have important roles in plant adaptation to harsh environments, in addition these compounds serve as infochemicals in multitrophic interactions. This lesson will explore the main volatile isoprenoids emitted by plants, the biotic and abiotic stresses inducing their biosynthesis, the roles of these secondary metabolites in plant defence and the analytical techniques uesed to monitor and quantify BVOC emission.
