    a bou t a

    week earlier

    It was a

    p l e a s an t s u rp r i s e

    as

t h ings were green and much coo le r

    than

    when

    we left in

April . Rains have continued quite regularly ever s ince keeping the

    temper

    a tu re around

    80 and humidity around 90.

    With

    fans it i s

qu i te comfor tab le .

    Drying

    laundry and keeping

    things

    from

    moulding a re problems.

    On

    Sunday

    th e

    day

    a f t e r we

    a r r i ved

    th e church

    se rv ice

    was longer

    than

    usual .

    Some

of the teen age boys sang s ev er al s pe ci al numbers accompa

    nied

    by

    drums

    tambourine e tc . Then

    there was a

    long

    sermon. Jus t before

    th e

    end of

the se rv ice a young man came

    running

    in

    th e

    door

    and down th e

    a i s l e up

    to

    the

pulpi t asking for protect ion from

    those

    pursuing him. Jean

    was s i t t ing near the back

    door

    and saw

    severa l young

    men

    approach so went

    ou t

    and

    asked

    them

    p lease

    to

    no t

    i n t e r r up t

    o ur w orsh ip

    s e rv i c e

    bu t

    wai t

    outside

    un t i l it

    was

f in ished. They said they were

    a f t e r the

    young

    man

    be

cause he had run o ff with t he i r money. After the

    benedict ion

    they were de

    termined to take the

    young

man with them by fo rce .

    Then

    we no t i ced

    t h a t

    he

    had about

    a

    four

    inch

    cu t

    through

    h is c lo th in g

    and

    f lesh near h is

    shoulder

    b lade which was bleed ing . We r e a l i z ed t h i s was a s er io u s in cid en t and it

    would

be dangerous to l e t him be taken by those who

    were bent

    on revenge.

When we p ointe d out th e

    cu t

    the

    others

    sa id

    nothing had

    happened to him

    ye t .

    sa id

    it was

    a

    case

    fo r the

    po l i ce . Jean

    got a r icksha

    and rushed

    to

the pol ice s ta t ion to repor t and ask

    for help .

    The church

    men

    s tayed

    to

    preven t

    the

pursuers from fo rc ib ly tak ing the

young man. When th e pursuers

    rea l ized the police

    would

    come soon

    they

    made a

    hasty

    re t rea t .

    The pol ice

came and presumably took the young man fo r trea tm en t a t th e

    hosp i t a l

    and

    probably had

    him

    r epo r t h is s t o r y . We do no t know what th e outcome was bu t

    the young

    f i r s t ran

    the a i s l e Jean thought he was a no th er c ra zy

    un t i l

    she saw
