The Agua Nueva Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) was constructed to replace the aging Roger Road WRF which began treating the county’s wastewater in 1951.

During the initial planning of the ROMP, it was determined that the Roger Road facility had reached the end of its useful life and the construction of a new facility would be more cost effective than rehabilitating and retrofitting the existing plant.

During the construction of the Agua Nueva facility, the Roger Road WRF operated without interruption or disruption of ongoing operations.

In December 2013, RWRD began the process of transferring flows from the Roger Road WRF to the Agua Nueva WRF.

On January 8, 2014, after more than 60 years of continuous operations, the last wastewater flows to the Roger Road WRF were diverted to the new Agua Nueva WRF; and the Roger Road WRF was officially and fully decommissioned.

Discussions and studies of potential uses for the Roger Road WRF property are underway.
