RocksAnd how they're formed
By Levi Nattrass
Hi! I’m Mr. Convincer. Today, I’ll be convincing you that you know about rocks and how they’re formed, by teaching you!
That rock is under heat and pressure so… he will be a
metamorphic rock.
Sedimentary rocks are formed by layering of
sediments, but it can’t do that without pressure.
That's called cementation. Here’s a diagram on the
layering.
See that speck on top of the diagram? Look at the
diagram and tell me where it would go and click the answer below, and if you get it wrong it
will end the show!
Small rocks Larger rocks
Good job!!
Now you're probably getting bored
because I’m just teaching, so…
SUPER Convincer!
Look at this magma cave. Magma is lava ,only in the
mantle.
AHHHH!! Heat and pressure!!! I’m
metamorphing!!
*ugg.* What happened?
Uh-o.
OUCH! I’m melting!!!
From now on I am evil!!
Hu? Where am I, and what’s with all the
writing?
Hey! Give me back my eye!
Well anyway, the diagram that I’m in is showing the parts of a volcano.
There are two types of lava, a`a and pahoehoe. Pahoehoe is a watery
lava that when it dries is a mass of billows and ropelike coils. A`a is a
type of lava that is cooler and has a more gooeyness and when it dries it becomes a rough surface with weird, jagged chunks of lava. Well, I don’t like having one eye, but I’ll get used
to it.
When lava cools and hardeners, it is a igneous
rock.
Hey what’s with the thing!?!
Man! I hate having one eye. Well we have one more rock type to visit.
Sedimentary!
Hi, welcome to volcano world!
Uhh… hi, um I’m a TV reporter and I got sucked in here. Can I get out of this
place quickly because I don’t have that much time, so… hey there’s my eye!
If I went in there I could get out through the core!
The first layer is the crust. It is
6 miles deep
The mantle is the second layer of the earth and is
made of magma. The third layer is the
outer core, it is molten iron and magma.
The core is made of molten iron. The last layer is the
core. It is made
I escaped volcano world. Well, sedimentary rocks are formed by layering and pressure of sediments
but where do sediments come from? They come from other rocks like a metamorphic rock could get weathered away and become sediments and the wind or water decomposes the sediments
into layers.
That right there is the rock cycle. Any rock can turn into any rock
with the right stuff, like a igneous rock can turn into a
metamorphic rock with heat and pressure. So that’s how rocks
are made.
Thanks for watching, bye!
Well that covers the three types of rocks igneous,
sedimentary, metamorphic and that volcano dudes can
fly.
