Welcome back from a well deserved break! Now we begin completing this year’s practice assessments in our brand new computer lab located on the Loma campus. Our goal is to make sure we are ready for next spring, when our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders must take the new Smarter Balanced Assessments. Keep working hard and stay focused!

What is your favorite color? My favorite color is red. What is your favorite movie? My favorite movie is “Titanic”. What is your favorite book? My favorite book is The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. What is your favorite place? My favorite place is the movie theatre because I enjoy watching movies during my spare time, whether they are educational or for entertainment. Who is your hero? My hero is my father because he is a very hardworking person. He has taught me the value of work and fami-ly. What is your favorite holiday? My favorite holiday is Christmas because I love setting up Christmas decorations, also this is a holiday to spend with family and loved ones. Why do you like working at NASA? I like working at NASA because the teachers and staff are very friendly. I also like working in the transitional kindergarten class because the children are full of en-ergy and there is never a dull moment working with them.

In observance of Earth Day, NASA held their annual com-munity clean-up. Students walked around the neighbor-hood collecting trash to honor Earth Day.

This Month we are studying African and African-American Art! We are studying the Asante people from Ghana, learning about their history, traditions, and art prac-tices. The Asante people make kente cloth that are symbols for important people, events, places, and proverbs.

In addition to traditional art and art-ists, we are studying contemporary Af-rican-American artists who are alive and making work today. Kehinde Wiley is a Los Angeles artist.

Faith Ringgold is another contem-porary African-American artist alive and making work today. She is an author, teacher, and artist.

Eventos por venir

Bienvenidos de regreso despues de un descanso buen merecido. Ahora, empezaremos a completar la practica de evaluaciones este año en el nuevo centro de computacion ubicado en Casa Loma. Nuestra meta es asegurarnos que estemos preparados para le proxima primavera, cuando nuestros alumnos de tercero, quarto, y quinto, toman las evaluaciones Smarter Balance. Sigan trabajando duro!

Dia de la Tierra

Limpiando la Comunidad

Cual es su color favorito? Mi color favorito es rojo. Cual es su pelicula favorita? Mi pelicula favorita es “Titanic”. Cual es su libro favorito? Mis libros favoritos son las series de Harry Potter por J.K. Rowling. Cual es su lugar favorito? Mi lugar favorito es el cine porque disfruto ver pelicu-las durante mi tiempo libre, ya sean educacionales o para entretenimiento. Quien es su heroe? Mi heroe es mi papa porque es una persona muy traba-jadora. El me enseño el valor del trabajo y la familia. Cual es su dia festivo favorito? Mi dia festivo favorito es la Navidad porque me encan-ta decorar, y tambien es un dia para disfrutar con fa-milia y queridos. Porque le gusta trabajar en NASA? Me gusta trabajar en NASA porque los maestros y per-sonal son muy amistosos. Tambien me gusta trabajar con los estudiantes de kinder transicional porque estan llenos de energia y nunca hay un momento aburrido trabajando con ellos.

En observacia del Dia de la Tierra, estudiantes de NASA participaron en la limpieza de la comunidad. Estudiantes caminaron por el vecindario recogiendo basura para honrar el Dia de la Tierra.

Este mes estamos estudiando arte Africana y Afroamericana! Estamos estudiando la gente Asante de Ghana, aprendiendo sobre su historia, tradiciones, y practicas artisticas. La gente Asante hacen tela kente que son simbolos para gente, eventos, lugares, y provervios importantes.

Ademas de artistas y arte tradicional, estamos estudiando artistas afroamer-icanas contemporaneos que viven y trabajan hoy en dia. Kehinde Wiley es un artista de Los Angeles.
