Basel, 25. September 2015

Roche 'n' Jazz celebrates 10th anniversary

Anniversary concert at the Tinguely Museum on 25 September 2015

Roche 'n' Jazz will be celebrating its tenth birthday with a concert by the McCoy Mrubata Project. Since 2005,

around 30,000 visitors have attended the series of events at the Tinguely Museum.

Roche 'n' Jazz is a partnership between Roche, the bird's eye jazz club and the Tinguely Museum which aims

to provide a forum for innovative jazz beyond the mainstream. On the last Friday of every month,

internationally renowned jazz musicians perform in the space dedicated to the current exhibition at the

Tinguely Museum.

"Innovative ideas, a delight in experimentation, and an openness to new experiences are what distinguish

Roche as a company, the Tinguely Museum and the bird's eye jazz club. This certainly explains why the

concert series is so successful", says Jürg Erismann, Head of Basel/Kaiseraugst Site. "Roche 'n' Jazz is an

important cultural commitment by Roche in Basel which enriches the range of cultural activities in the city

and its surrounding area".

The anniversary concert featuring the McCoy Mrubata Project will be held at the Tinguely Museum between

4 and 6 p.m. on Friday, 25 September.

McCoy Mrubata Project

Saxophonist, flautist and vocalist McCoy Mrubata is a much sought-after musician in his home country of

South Africa. He is currently Artist in Residence in Basel.

He is profoundly influenced by the music of the Cape Town township of Langa – by the hymns of the African

churches as much as the chants and rhythms of traditional healers and the horn sections of local jive bands.

With the aid of a formation made up of students from the jazz department of the Basel music academy,

McCoy Mrubata will be presenting an exciting programme that draws in equal measure on jive legend Zaks

Nkosi and the goema rhythms of Cape Town's carnival.

The concert is being held in partnership with the Centre for African Studies and the jazz department of the

Basel music academy.

Line-up:

McCoy Mrubata: soprano/tenor/baritone saxes/flute/vocals

Sarah Chaksad: alto/soprano saxes/flute

Severin Jenny: tenor sax
