Administrative Team’s Message

Welcome back Rocanville students and staff. We would like to extend a special welcome to our K class and our new students. Welcome to Rocanville School! We hope to see all of you along with existing students at the SCC Welcome Back BBQ on the 13th from 5-7 PM. This is a great opportunity for parents to meet the staff and take a tour with your child of the school or of their classroom if you so wish. The SCC is planning a delicious meal free of charge to all of our families. High school students, we know you can always eat, so come on out even if you don’t feel the need to tour your parents around the school! I would also like to welcome to our staff Miss Putland as one of our RtI teachers and as grade 8 homeroom and Miss Henderson as a teacher intern in Mrs. Kingdon’s room. Fall time is always busy as students, staff, and parents all transition back to school schedules, work schedules, and activities that our children are involved in both inside and outside of the school. This is a great opportunity for everyone as we come back refreshed, eager to work, and learn together. In order to keep this momentum throughout the year, we must all keep the 3 R’s of Rocanville School at the forefront of our interactions. These are: Ready, Respectful, and Responsible. Ready – be ready to learn, be ready to be a contributing member to our school environment. Respectful – Be respectful of yourself, respectful to others, respectful of the learning environment, respectful of the school environment. Responsible – be responsible for your own actions, be responsible for your learning. The 3 R’s guide our students and the decisions they make each day, but our staff and parents must also support the 3 R’s to demonstrate their importance to our students. Rocanville School welcomes parents and community members to become involved in supporting our students in various ways, such as community coaching, driving students to activities, participating in school events, staying connected to the school with open communication, and supporting learning at home. Your support contributes to student engagement, student success, and is highly valued by our school community as you are part of this community. If you ever have questions or concerns, please contact the school. If you want to become involved in other ways, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher or our SCC Chair Megan Shipp for possible opportunities. Best wishes as we begin another school year!

September Library News School is off to a great start and the Library is buzzing with activity. Many students have already been in to sign out books for buddy reading and for their own enjoyment. It is very important that you encourage your child – no matter their age - to read each day. The stronger the reader, the easier they will find school work. Reading is a necessary skill and you only improve by doing it. Library books are signed out on a 14 day cycle (a few of the younger classes return theirs each library class as per the teacher’s request). If a book has not come back to school after 14 days the teachers will receive a reminder notice that the student still has a book signed out. If that book has not returned after a month the child will receive a letter to take home stating that the book is overdue and they have to pay the cost of it. If it is an ongoing problem with a student their library privileges will be suspended until all fines are paid. It is very expensive to have to replace lost or damaged books so please take good care of them. The photographers from Lifetouch Canada will be here Friday, September 15th to take our school pictures. These pictures enable our yearbook staff to put together a wonderful book of memories for our school. I expect proof packages to be back in 2 – 3 weeks giving you the opportunity to order pictures in plenty of time before Christmas. Thank you to everyone who orders pictures as our library makes a small commission off of each package purchased. Happy Reading Cheryl Schiller Library Tech

After years of what seems like endless playground fundraisers for a new play structure, the end is in sight!

The install of the new structure has been scheduled for September 28, 29, and 30. We need to find 10 volunteers for all three days (not necessarily the same people), to assist the Blue Imp installation guy. If you are able to help us out, please text or call Kim Gulka at 306-435-9301 or Tara at 306-645-2838. Please spread the word and ask everyone you know if they're available to help! Thanks so much!

Food Bank We are currently accepting donations of healthy lunch, snack and drink items to add

to our student food bank. Please remember to read the labels carefully as our school

is Peanut/Nut free

Rocanville School would like to remind parents and students that the school is

Peanut/Nut Free.

Your co-operation is requested to maintain the Peanut/Nut Free policy within our facility. We do have several students with

severe life threatening peanut/nut allergies so it is very important that you monitor your student’s lunches and snacks so that they

are peanut/nut free. Our snack shack does not sell any items that contain peanuts or nuts.

We have found that it is quite hard to distinguish the “Wow Peanut Butter” that is peanut free from the regular peanut butter and would like to make a request that

you please refrain from sending this if at all possible.

Aerosol Free

Please make sure that your child(ren) does not bring any aerosol Products to school.

thank you
