It was a cold Wednesday night that Beau and I took up an invitation from my friend my friend Robert (“Bob the Fox”) Enrico (“Rico”) Antonelli to catch the Robbin Thompson Band’s last rehearsal before their upcoming reunion show at The National.

Between playing bass in the school orchestra and following me around to shows and festivals, Beau has had plenty of exposure to live music. However, none of that prepared him for what it was like to be a fly on the wall while a professional band worked through their catalog. It was better than a backstage pass - it was like having a private concert and he was simply blown away.

Thanks Bob, Robbin, Eric, Velpo, and Audie for your hospitality!

When RTB kicked off their reunion tour at The Norva in Norfolk in December, 2009, no one was quite sure where it would lead. By the time January rolled around, though, they had worked out the kinks of not playing together for nearly 25 years they had loosed up the joints, and were ready to rock.

It’s hard to say why, but the evening had a special buzz. Maybe it was that the house was packed. Maybe it was the steady stream of long-time friends and family showing up with best wishes. Maybe it was the fact that the show was being recorded and videotaped for commercial release. Whatever it was, the Robbin Thompson Band caught the magic and blew the crowd away. This Two B’s Please reunion show was a remarkable way to start the year, to say the least.
