Stand OUT!RMLA’s OUTstanding conference presents an exceptional opportunity for you to align your brand with the individuals and organisations tackling the most important issues of our time.

This year’s conference location, Te Tau Ihu (the Nelson, Tasman and Marlborough regions), provides a breathtaking backdrop for big conversations to take place; for pivotal relationships to be forged; and for crucial information to be exchanged - all of which will yield a lasting and positive impact on New Zealand’s environment, cultures and quality of living.

The objective of this conference is to focus minds on addressing climate change and sustainable development; preservation of New Zealand’s Outstanding Natural Landscapes; resolving competing needs of water users; protecting our regions’ outstanding water bodies; and better managing competition for productive rural land and the growth industries of aquaculture and tourism.

RMLA’s OUTstanding conference challenges practitioners, consultants, businesses, industry players and decision-makers to identify ways to diversify from reliance on the primary sector; to innovate and embrace new technologies; and in doing so, strengthen New Zealand’s economic competitiveness.

Immersing our delegates in this year’s ‘OUTstanding’ theme, our Fieldshops will be held in the breathtaking settings of Abel Tasman National Park, Mapua, the Moutere Valley, Neudorf and Nelson surrounds. Rounding off the experience, five superb networking events will showcase the regions’ outstanding produce over the course of the three-day conference.

Don’t miss this excellent opportunity to make your brand really ‘stand out from the crowd!’

We look forward to seeing you there,

Antoinette Besier and Quentin DaviesBARRISTER & SOLICITOR PARTNERTASMAN LAW GASCOIGNE WICKS

what RMLA sponsorship delivers

Te Tau Ihu (the Nelson, Tasman and Marlborough regions) is an outstanding environment, rich in resources and stunningly beautiful. RMLA’s OUTstanding Field Shops are designed to break our delegates out of the conference room, giving them first-hand insight into local resource management issues, and an opportunity to appreciate the unique natural beauty of Te Tau Ihu. Our Field Shops cover the spectrum of resource management, including marine, land, freshwater and urban habitats. They address a range of issues, from challenges presented by climate change and coastal hazards, integrated land and water management, through to urban issues. All the while, demonstrating the increasingly important role of public-private partnerships in preserving New Zealand’s 100% Pure brand.

Punching above their weight The right policy tools for delivering long-term sustainabilityWith the OECD undertaking its decadal review of New Zealand’s Environment Policies, it is the opportune moment for Simon Upton, architect of the RMA and current Director of the OECD’s Environment Directorate, to provide an update on international policy tools that punch above their weight in terms of delivering positive environmental and economic outcomes.

Simon will provide insight into cases where such policies have conferred a competitive advantage elsewhere, in terms of stimulating innovation and future-proofing communities against climate change.

what RMLA sponsorship delivers

OUTstanding LandscapesProtecting our heritageAs with many parts of regional New Zealand, Te Tau Ihu largely depends on its natural resource base to sustain economic wellbeing. How can we retain what is outstanding about the top of the south, while balancing primary resource demand pressures and the tension this inevitably creates?

Providing a unique insight into key court decisions, Judge Jane Borthwick will examine the concept of what is an ‘outstanding’ landscape under s6(b) of the RMA, and the extent of the protection afforded by this section as a matter of national importance. Judge Borthwick will analyse recent decisions of the Courts in applying this section to determine trends and will debate whether it has been interpreted as intended.

Our NZD 10 000 sponsor package for this session includes an exceptional range of benefits, including:

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

About Judge BorthwickAppointed as Environment Judge in Novemeber 2008, Judge Borthwick, who has a BA (Hons) in Geography and LLB (Hons), was admitted to the bar in 1994. Judge Borthwick’s practice has recently focused on resource management with extensive involvement in water rights issues throughout Canterbury. She has also acted as a hearing commissioner for several marine farm and water right applications in Canterbury.
