The Center began in 1954 as a network of behavioral health committed to a single mission: Helping People Throughout Life’s Journey. In 1982 it was renamed from Community Mental Health Center of Escambia County to the Center to reduce the stigma that often comes with mental health and to reflect the diverse services they provide. The Center is also wholly owned subsidiary of Baptist Health Care Corporation (“BHCC”). Through the years, the Center has grown and expanded
from child guidance counseling to mental health centers, drug treatment, crisis counseling and halfway homes. The growth of the Center led to the founding of the vocational services affiliate, Global Connections to Employment (“GCE”), which has become the largest private Northwest Florida employer of persons with disabilities. GCE employs approximately 1,700 people in 12 states and the District of Columbia. Its Mission is “Helping people throughout life’s journey.” It strives to consistently meet the expectations of their various government and commercial customers by grounding its team in their pillars of operational excellence: Best People, Best Service, Best Quality, Financial Performance, and Growth. A perfect fit for creating employment opportunities is the development and operation of quick service restaurants (“QSRs”), with DQ Grill & Chill being the first of many to come.
