Welcome to the Fall 2014 Events & Activities Guide. Fall is a time to get back into a routine and start to think about the ways we’ll keep active as the weather changes. Our staff in Parks, Recreation and Community Relations has been busy preparing

the special events and recreation programs that will energize us as the cool weather hits. Countless hours of staff time have also been spent readying the new registration program. This investment in a new enrollment process will make registration quick and easy for busy families when the online phase is implemented in Winter 2015.

We invite you to join us as we celebrate the season with Harvest Festival and the popular Pumpkin Personalities. Wherever your business is located, I encourage you to show your community spirit by decorating a pumpkin display! Send us the details and we’ll include your business on the Pumpkin Personalities map.

Fall is also the time Riverview Town Council meets to discuss the next budget and your input is important to the success and enjoyment of our town. We have worked to improve the tools we use to communicate and engage with residents. If you haven’t already, please sign up for Talk Riverview where you can weigh in on a range of issues that affect our community. Feedback helps to ensure the budget reflects the broad range of interests in our town. You can sign-up with an email address or Facebook account at http://townofriverview.mindmixer.com and suggest a topic or join an existing conversation about civic matters. Whether it’s an idea for a new wellness program, a community event you would like to see in Riverview or a suggestion to improve our services, we want to hear from you.

Wishing you a safe and enjoyable fall.

Riverview’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Relations is dedicated to creating a positive approach to individual growth and development and a focus upon community building. We accomplish this through continually enhancing the already high caliber of

our parks and open spaces, indoor and outdoor facilities, leisure offerings and progressive recreation programming. Our dedicated and highly competent team of recreation professionals continue to work hard in providing quality programs, activities, and facilities that we are known for, and the public continue to enjoy. Through continued and increasing community consultation and participation, we remain a key driver in promoting economic development, enhancing environmental protection, and facilitating both physical and mental active and healthy lifestyles.

As the seasons change, so do the opportunities for recreation and leisure participation. The Parks, Recreation and Community Relations Department has developed another exciting menu of programs, services and events to keep you and your family healthy, entertained and active during autumn. You can find some of these options between the covers of our Fall Activity Guide. Cooler weather does not limit your activity to the indoors. Getting outside provides a change of scenery and allows you to experience another facet of nature as floral colors become more vibrant, while the morning and evening air becomes more brisk. You can walk our many trails, resume your commitment to fitness, join a swim class, learn to skate, or attend the Harvest Festival events designed for the whole family.

I encourage you to review this Activity Guide and visit our website, townofriverview.ca, and take advantage of the fun and exciting activities, programs and events available to you and your family; both indoors and outdoors.

On behalf of our entire staff, I would like to thank you for the opportunity to serve you, and I extend an invitation to you to continue partnering with us in providing our citizens of all ages, a great place to grow.

Gerry Cole,Director of Parks, Recreation & Community Relations

Live, work & play healthyIn motion is an enthusiastic community-wide initiative to live, work and play in a healthy and active Riverview. In motion’s 30-30-30 solution details a shared responsibility of ensuring everyone gets 90 minutes of physical activity every day (and more is better!).

Here’s how it works: all three sectors (home, school/work and community) are encouraged to share the responsibility of providing 30 minutes of physical activity in their sector.

l Parents and caregivers provides 30 minutes of physical activity for their family at home. l Schools and workplaces includes 30 minutes of physical activity in the classroom/office

during school/work. l Community, sport, and recreation organizations build their programming on 30

minutes of physical activity for everyone.

If every person in Riverview attended school/work, participated in a community program and lived in a home which assumed their responsibility of the 30-30-30 solution, every person would enjoy at least 90 minutes of physical activity daily, and meet Canada’s National Guidelines on physical activity.

Wellness Week in New BrunswickOctober 1-7, 2014

New Brunswick Wellness Week is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate our efforts, as individuals, families, organizations, schools, communities and workplaces, in taking action to improve wellness and our progress towards a culture of well-being in Riverview and the tri-community area.
