TRANSCRIPT
The SOUTH/CENTRAL NEW JERSEY PA RETIREES’ Luncheon was an idea that developed during an informal lunch get together at The Captain’s Inn, Forked River, NJ, a year ago August. It was agreed that the location would be a good choice for a SOUTH/CENTRAL NEW JERSEY PA RETIREES’ luncheon. The first event was held on Thursday, September 20, 2007 with 32 attendees. It has since evolved into a quar-terly luncheon, held in 2008 on the third Thursday: January 17; April 17; July 17; and, October 16. Attendance has averaged 32 guests per luncheon. In 2010 the group plans to continue to meet at The Captain’s Inn on: April 15; July 15; and, October 21. In July, weather permitting, the luncheon is held on the deck outside adjacent to the water.–LD

For almost all of those
present, there are fond
memories of when the
Port Authority was
indeed one, big family.
Maybe not always
happy, but a family
nonetheless. People
who did not know each
other, were always
welcomed warmly
since we were all part
of PONYA (later to be
changed to PANYNYJ).
That spirit permeates
these events.

One comment overheard
about these happy events
suggested that here the
playing field has been lev-
eled. There are no “bosses”
or superiors, as such, there
are only PA retirees, and their
guests.
Where da food, huh? The chow hounds lead the way….
Will there be anything left
for me?
MORE? You want more already?
I think they’ve already run out of food...
No food left? I shudda known...
I really, really don’t believe it... Mr. Smiley… Who knew?

There is no intentional competition
pertaining to PA Retiree’s luncheons, but
there is not doubt that these SCJPARET
luncheons have got be among the very
best. Everyone, from everywhere are
always most welcome as our usual
regular from Long Island, NY can attest to.
Guys, I’l tellin’ you...it was this big…. ...parting is such sweet sorrow...
What’s the next stop this train makes, fellas?

Talk about thoughtfulness, you can’t beat this crowd . When I experienced 3 stents inserted just prior to the
last (February) event, and reluctantly could not attend, a cheery note was passed around and signed by all atten-
dees and delivered by two close friends who were there, on their way home. It was quite touching. And now
as my bride of 50 years (July 30, 1960-during Tropical Storm “ Brenda” ) and I are about to celebrate with our
family & friends, I decided to share the good spirit of SCJPARET with her and encouraged others to do so as
well. To our delight, one of our superb hostesses, namely, Liz DeLaura, as usual, added a special touch, by
preparing special unique name tags (see above) and a supply of little souvenir mint boxes. Wow! What a gal! She
said it was in appreciation of what I do (i.e., this e-newsletter, and flyers) etc. Let me say this: it is truly my pleasure.
It is just a privilege and a treat to share what I can with some of my former PA
colleagues and associates. Admittedly many of those who have been attending
these SCJPARET luncheons and I never had the pleasure or experience of actually
working together per se—but we all did work for PONYA and that is all that is nec-
essary to have a good time and enjoy these events.
Our three hosts, Liz DeLaura, Rita Dubrow and Stan Raith do a lot behind the
scenes to make it happen without fanfare or seeking any thanks or recognition.
And one of the big challenges, besides keeping track of folks and attempts at
communication, is the major task of identifying the photos taken. That primarily
has been another of Liz’ major contributions, and she does a phenomenal job.
Maybe it is the lack of formality, and speeches, and a bare minimum of relevant
announcements that makes these luncheons so attractive. And the factor of great
food at a great price is the literal icing on the cake.
It may not be easy getting used to getting older, but as a regular at these
SCJPARET quarterly luncheons, it certainly makes retirement a joy. Come one!
Come all!
Okay so this is an usually big issue. You see it has grown as the attendees have. There is no doubt that the July (3rd Thursday of the month), SCJPARET Luncheon regu-
larly held at The Tiki Bar of The Captain’s Inn , in Forked River, NJ, warrants being recognized as one of the great events for PA retirees in the area. At other times it
is held in the regular spacious and friendly indoor facility of The Captain’s Inn where we have been graciously well received and welcomed. There are not usually
many wordy comments included because we feel the important thing is to share the evidence by way of candid photographs so everyone can enjoy the event, even
those who for one reason or another may not have been able to attend.
Your comments and newsy items of interest are always welcome. More important your presence at these events is the goal and objective. Stay well and prosper!
May God bless one and all!
