TERM 4 COMMENCES TUESDAY, 14 OCTOBER
Dear Parents and Friends,
RISKY BEHAVIOUR IN CRISKY BEHAVIOUR IN CARPARKSARPARKS AROUND THE SCHOOLAROUND THE SCHOOL
Parents and carers, please ensure that you park in designated parking bays and not in open spaces which are there to facilitate the flow of traffic. At present, a small number of people are blocking the car parking area when dropping off and picking up children in the carpark. This area clearly marked No Standing is blocking traffic on the road, particularly at the north end of the Egerton Road carpark on Egerton Road and coming out of Bolero Road attempting to turn left. The children who are exiting these illegally parked vehicles are being put at risk
by running or walking through moving traffic in the carpark.
Please note school carparks are bound by the same rules and regulations as all public parking areas in the City of Swan and at times parking inspectors do attend the school. Please note all vehicles parking in unauthorized areas are subject to
prosecution.
SNAKESSNAKES
As Spring has arrived, local snakes are coming out of hibernation. There have been a number of juvenile and adult snakes spotted in the park around the lake
off Egerton Road.
It is important that if a snake is spotted, that it is left alone and a professional called to relocate it. Snakes usually avoid contact with people and only bite when threatened. Please speak to your children about being vigilant when outdoors and about not interfering with a snake if spotted. It would also be timely to
discuss with your child what to do if bitten by a snake.
The following information is taken from the West Australian
Reptile Park website:
Stay calm and keep still
Do not wash the bitten area
Apply direct pressure over the bitten area
Apply a firm broad bandage over the bitten area first,
then bandage down the lib and continue to bandage up
the full length of the limb
Do not remove the bandage
Immobilse the limb with a splint
Do not elevate the limb
Call 000 for an ambulance
Some of the common snakes are coloured similar to wood and
thus not always noticed until they move. The most common
snakes in Perth are: Dugites, King Brown, Tiger and Western
Brown Snakes. For more information about snakes found in
Perth please visit the websites of The West Australian Reptile
Park or the Department of Environment and Conservation. If
you find a snake and want it removed, please contact the
Wildcare Helpline on 9474 9055, who will refer you to your
local Volunteer Reptile Remover.

DATES TO REMEMBER
WE ARE A NUT AWARE SWE ARE A NUT AWARE SCHOOLCHOOL
This is a reminder that we have children across most grades at Aveley Primary School, who suffer from life threatening allergic reactions, which are described as anaphylaxis . We have children who suffer from anaphylaxis due to
allergens in foods, drugs and insect venom. Please be aware that a number of these children’s reactions are triggered by nuts and we ask that if your child brings food containing nuts to school that they do not share food, wash their hands thoroughly and dispose of their rubbish correctly. Likewise if you are providing any food to the school for sharing with students please give the teacher/s involved a list of ingredients so that we can identify any
possible triggers and prevent any allergic reactions.
CELEBRATING SWIMMINGCELEBRATING SWIMMING
Congratulations to all of those children who attended the in-school swimming over the past fortnight at Altone Park. It was wonderful to see how many children passed the swimming stage they were enrolled in. A “special mention” for those who passed up to three stages. The swimming supervisor and staff at Altone Park all praised the students on their behaviour and the parents and staff for the support that they provided. Thank you to all the
parents who went along to support their child/ren.
Swimming is an important skill for all children to learn as we are surrounded by water with back-yard pools, lakes and our beautiful beaches. There has been an alarming 60% increase in drownings in WA over 2013, as reported by the ABC news. We have already booked our lessons for 2015 and hope to have
100% of all students from Pre-primary to Year 6 attending.
PARLIAMENT PARLIAMENT HOUSE VISIT BY CAPTAINSHOUSE VISIT BY CAPTAINS AND AND
COUNCILLORSCOUNCILLORS
Our Captains and Councillors visited Parliament House last Tuesday 16 following an invitation by Mr Frank Alban MLA, Member for Swan Hills, to lunch with him in the Parliamentary Restaurant and to view Question time in the Lower House. The visit was most educational for the children and we have been mentioned in Hansard as a result of being seated in a privileged
position in the House.
Our sincere thanks to Mr Alban for his generosity and for being part of the learning process to make our children politically
aware.
The photograph below shows our children standing in front of the
Speaker’s Chair.
This Term has been highly successful both academically and socially. Your children have displayed exemplary behaviour, increasing resilience and a dedication to their studies. Thank you for your support and for communicating with us the moment you have concerns. Problems can be best dealt with closest to their source. In this you have been quick to contact your child’s class teacher in the first instance and then contacted either of our
Deputies or myself when matters are unresolved.
Aveley Primary School continues to grow and prosper. We are looking to increased growth in 2015 when we commence the
new school year as an Independent Primary School.
School recommences on Tuesday, 14 October. The Monday
prior to this will be dedicated to School Development.
Have a restful holiday.
Wise words for the fortnight……

that you learn, the more places you’ll go .” [Dr Seuss]

After 4 months of rehearsals and dedication from our wonderful performers, we are almost at the end of our journey. Next Tuesday we travel to the Regal Theatre to perform in the State Final Awards Night. We have been so proud of all the children and we know that they will do a brilliant job on this special
occasion.
People who ordered tickets for this night need to collect them from the administration office as soon as possible. If you're keen
on coming, tickets are available from the Ticketek website.
Keep an eye out in the local papers also, as I organised for a reporter and photographer to come this week and do a little story
on our item...

all payments are due in full by Tuesday, 23 September. Eftpos facilities are available at the
administration office.
AVELEY PRIMARY SCHOOL PARENTS &
CITIZENS ASSOCIATION
COMMUNITY NEWS
Hello Everyone!
Let me begin by extending a huge thank you to Dimitra Godfrey for the fantastic Father’s Day stall she organised for us this month, along with help from Krista Bingham, Carly Hearn, Joanne Needsham, Stephanie Ahlfeld,
Kristy Holmes, Jahna Cedar and Tania Edwards. The stall raised
over $1400, making it our most successful Father’s Day stall yet!
While on the subject of successes, school banking is going from strength to strength, with 4 new accounts opened this term and 417 deposits keeping Helen Baker, Tania Edwards and Katrina Tullio very busy. Thanks to our volunteers and to all the parents who participate each Tuesday morning. I know my children are always looking for extra jobs to do around the house for spare
change for their weekly banking. Win win!
A reminder that fundraising chocolate order forms are due back by next Wednesday, 24 September. It is great to see so many families willing to sell a box to family members, colleagues in the workplace, friends or neighbours to support our fundraising
efforts. Thank you!
There are still slots available for our family portrait days on Sunday, 26 October and Sunday, 9 November. If you’d like to get some lovely, natural family photos taken in the park across from the school for just $20, send an email with your preferred date
and time to [email protected].
We are also gearing up for our huge fundraising Thermomix raffle. Tickets will be on sale in Term 4 for $20 each, giving you a 1 in 250 chance to win the brand new TM 5 model, worth $1989! The prize
draw will be happening at our final assembly in Week 10.
With all the fundraising going on it is a good opportunity to tell you where the money is going. So far this year the P&C have contributed to the cost of Wakkakiri transport and costume supplies. We have purchased Mathematics and Science resources for the school and books for the library and that is just
the beginning.
Our next big plan is to establish a nature playground for our school. This is a very exciting project, which promises to be a great place for our children to play, learn and grow and a magnificent addition to our school. If you want to be part of the planning for the new playground, please email [email protected]. It is a project for the entire school community that is only limited in size by our imaginations!
If you have any questions or want to be a part of the P&C then please don’t hesitate to contact me on 0439 917 163. Have a
safe and exciting holiday and see you all next term.
Until next time,
Your Aveley P&C Committee
